I wish they would make a watch for those of us that don't track fitness. I'd rather have a camera or other phone feature. The health app uses the most battery and I don't use it. Been in the gym for 25 years. I don't count Jack anymore, lol.
One glimmer of hope. On the newer Android watches you can turn off the step counter if you don't need it. Of course, keeping GPS (location services) off with save a ton of battery power.
How well dose this watch work as a stand-alone phone? I’m a minimalist and I really don’t like how big phones are these days so I was looking to just go with a smart watch.

I like you reviews keep up the good work.. I think Samsung went in the wrong direction by making round bezels.. I still have my Galaxy Gear S that watch is very powerful and can still do the same thing that the S4 can do. and the design is way better they should have stuck with it..

Once the watch charges 100% how long does its take for the led to change to green led? I had to send my Samsung Galaxy watch 42mm back because when it hits to 100% it will take 5 minutes for the green light to pop up on the doc... please could you get back to me with an answer on your dock! My s4 does not have Samsung pay pre installed, and it can't be installed afterwards or from the app, so I have no way of using it. Any ideas? I have the Europe s4 42mm

Still liking the design of my Samsung Gear S3 Frontier rather than the S4 one, we boys love rugged look. Not much changed from the previous S3 just the prolonged battery life :)
Yep, I agree. The Samsung Pay has been dumbed down quit a bit an only works with NFC equipped terminals now while the S3 could access NFC or standard card reader terminals (which a lot of vendors still have).

That is something you need to check on in India. Often if the company sells the Galaxy Watch (Gear LET S4), then you should be able to make yours work.
I've watched 1,098 different videos (jk) about whether or not I want to buy this watch to pair with my Note 9. I'm more of a metal watch band guy and saw where the metal bands may or may not affect the HR/Sleep Monitor. Thoughts? Good video btw!
I can't see how the band would affect HR or sleep monitoring as that happens from sensors in the watch and has nothing to do with the band. Heck, you could take bands off and duct tape it to your arm if you want (just not too tight).
Haha, another guy posted he has the 42mm version on the review of the 46mm Galaxy Watch. The LTE versions are great if you are OK with the regular monthly fee for cellular service.

There haven't been "years" since these watches came out to know how many we get before the batteries die. I have a video up about battery life, and in the show notes and comments there are some resources for finding replacement batteries. Older watches were easy to replace. The more modern ones have been designed in 3D CAD/CAM with the batteries in the middle instead of on the top and it's a lot harder (though not impossible) to replace them. See a couple of my teardown videos to understand what I mean.
I have heard it helps to calibrate the battery charge percentage indicator on your watch to the battery so it will be more accurate. I've heard you may get longer life per charge as well if you drain down to 10% or so before fully charging a few times. Of course, I'm not sure about that, and it may apply to different types of batteries, but that's why I advise it. Sure, you can use it without charging. I'm just concerned about you getting the best and longest life from your battery.
My gear S3 is extremely accurate. Every test I've done is spot on. My wife and I do 100 step tests frequently and mine is always spot on and her Apple watch is typically counts way more steps.
IT will work best with a Samsung phone, but you can use any Android phone and install a couple of extra interface apps to get it to work. I haven't tried a Huawei phone or Apple iPhone with this watch.

No, not yet, though Samsung says an update for that is coming for the Galaxy Watch Active (and may later show up on the other Galaxy Watches as well, we hope).
Good observations, but remember, unlike pure Android smartwatches that can accept just about any Android app, the selection of apps is limited for TizenOS watches, so not that big a deal as you can't do as much with it. How's that for selling you on this one? Yea, there's a lot to be said for a 3GB RAM / 32GB storage Kospet HOPE smartwatch, which is less than half the price.
They actually named it the "Galaxy Watch" and not Gear S4, but since that was confusing and folks have been waiting for the S4 to be officially released, both names were used to describe it, otherwise those who didn't know about the name change would completely miss this watch review.

I hope that there would be some custom firmware for this watch. At least the Gear S3 has one which disables this useless step counter and bmp measurements :P I got 30% more battery life after disabling those features
not ip68 rate, it could die in swimming use i have the first galaxy watch and the active 2 which i used in water swimming activities in my house pool and both of them have hold the claim of being ip68. this galaxy 3 did not hold even just one swimming time after just 3 weeks of ownership. send it to Samsung care and they won't honor the warranty and want me to pay 220 for the repair. if you're planning to use it on water like swimming i would not recommend to buy it. update: received the watch from the repair center and the back cover of the watch was broken, 3 of the 4 holes that keep it on please where broken. and was hanging by the cable from the sensor attached to the main board on the case.
They are totally different, using a different operating systems and different apps. The thing they have in common is they are watches and not a watch and a phone, for example. Actually, two Android phones have more in common with each other than these two watches do.
I don't know for sure. You might check with Samsung's Galaxy Watch website to see if there are compatibility issues. As far as I know the watch should work with any modern Android phone.
It's kinda what a Gear S4 would have been if they had stuck with the line. I'd call it a Gear S3 stripped down for the Samsung Pay so it won't work at traditional "swipe only" transaction terminals anymore and must be used on terminals that support NFC only. That's why I sent my Galaxy Watch back and am sticking with my Gear S3. Even after three years the battery is working fine, too. It's like a brand new watch. I know this doesn't help "sell" a Galaxy Watch, but I'd rather you guys have the facts.
i regret buying my Tickwatch E...the wear OS is such crap...it was not sending notifications to my watch and calls would only ring on my watch on the last ring...everyone i talk to says they let it ring for 4 times but i only got 1 ring on my side....now the Tizen OS i never had any issues with BUT i wont be buying any samsung products again...not after i experianced first hand how cheap there phones are....me my gf and my friend all has s8's andd accidentally dropped from maybe 3 feet...all broke in the same spot...bottom right of curved screen...and my phone had a otter box defender caser on it....the curved screen is garbage and frankly its the main reason i wont buy another samsung phone.... I have since swapped over to a android flip phone running 6.0 and back to my pebble time running rebel....best combo ever....still works like pebble did in the good old days and i can get over a week of battery life out of my watch before i have to charge it for 1hr lol. i have since sold my tickwatch e on ebay and will be putting my gf's on there as soon as her pebble gets here
In the universe of alternate expectations. Folks were expecting the next Galaxy watch to be the Gear S4, so to enable finding the REAL followup watch, S4 was put in the title to assist in locating the review. That's why it's in (parentheses)
I know. It's a pet peeve of mine. I just like the feel of sliding across real glass and not some piece if plastic. Besides, after awhile, the plastic starts showing some nicks and scratches (which never appear on the actual glass, with or without the protector.
the price is too expensive for a smart watch ... with a cpu that is too low compared to a cellphone, because all applications on this watch are the same as applications on cellphones in general, especially just a tizen instead of geogle ... like using a low-class cellphone on the wrist ..

You need a phone in order to take calls and messages Im pretty sure, but you should be good when it comes to exercise and heart rate.

Tes, and it's possible to toggle it on and off, or set it up to go off when you go into Do Not Disturb or Theater or Noght modes. Very versatile.

Follow the directions carefully for tethering to the app you put on your phone and you should be OK.

I don't know. I would imagine it should but you may need to download some additional compatibility apps. Check with the Samsung website to make sure.

I hope that there would be some custom firmware for this watch. At least the Gear S3 has one which disables this useless step counter and bmp measurements :P I got 30% more battery life after disabling those features
Today's basic Android smartwatches, less than 1/3 the cost of the Galaxy Watch, have an option in settings to disable the step counter.
not ip68 rate, it could die in swimming use
i have the first galaxy watch and the active 2 which i used in water swimming activities in my house pool and both of them have hold the claim of being ip68. this galaxy 3 did not hold even just one swimming time after just 3 weeks of ownership. send it to Samsung care and they won't honor the warranty and want me to pay 220 for the repair.
if you're planning to use it on water like swimming i would not recommend to buy it.
update: received the watch from the repair center and the back cover of the watch was broken, 3 of the 4 holes that keep it on please where broken. and was hanging by the cable from the sensor attached to the main board on the case.

They are totally different, using a different operating systems and different apps. The thing they have in common is they are watches and not a watch and a phone, for example. Actually, two Android phones have more in common with each other than these two watches do.

I don't know for sure. You might check with Samsung's Galaxy Watch website to see if there are compatibility issues. As far as I know the watch should work with any modern Android phone.

It's kinda what a Gear S4 would have been if they had stuck with the line. I'd call it a Gear S3 stripped down for the Samsung Pay so it won't work at traditional "swipe only" transaction terminals anymore and must be used on terminals that support NFC only. That's why I sent my Galaxy Watch back and am sticking with my Gear S3. Even after three years the battery is working fine, too. It's like a brand new watch. I know this doesn't help "sell" a Galaxy Watch, but I'd rather you guys have the facts.

i regret buying my Tickwatch E...the wear OS is such crap...it was not sending notifications to my watch and calls would only ring on my watch on the last ring...everyone i talk to says they let it ring for 4 times but i only got 1 ring on my side....now the Tizen OS i never had any issues with BUT i wont be buying any samsung products again...not after i experianced first hand how cheap there phones are....me my gf and my friend all has s8's andd accidentally dropped from maybe 3 feet...all broke in the same spot...bottom right of curved screen...and my phone had a otter box defender caser on it....the curved screen is garbage and frankly its the main reason i wont buy another samsung phone....
I have since swapped over to a android flip phone running 6.0 and back to my pebble time running rebel....best combo ever....still works like pebble did in the good old days and i can get over a week of battery life out of my watch before i have to charge it for 1hr lol. i have since sold my tickwatch e on ebay and will be putting my gf's on there as soon as her pebble gets here

I know. It's a pet peeve of mine. I just like the feel of sliding across real glass and not some piece if plastic. Besides, after awhile, the plastic starts showing some nicks and scratches (which never appear on the actual glass, with or without the protector.

the price is too expensive for a smart watch ... with a cpu that is too low compared to a cellphone, because all applications on this watch are the same as applications on cellphones in general, especially just a tizen instead of geogle ... like using a low-class cellphone on the wrist ..
