You are probably correct about the percentages Jedi, I guess I am sentimental because Smith/Stoklos and Hovie/Dodd are the reason a lot of people flocked to the sport back then.
One thing I always found interesting was that '93 was the official year that Karch/Kent retired to the two great teams of the last decade. Hovland/Dodd get their last win together here, and just a couple of weeks prior, Smith/Stoklos get their last win together in Fort Myers. The early 90's gave us a lot of changes. We saw hair bands get replaced by grunge, the Lakers & Celtics get replaced by the Bulls, and Hov/Dodd & Smith/Stoklos get replaced by the best team to ever play this game.
I was there for this final. I was 12 years old. Hov and Dodd were sitting by themselves in their players chairs after all the crowds left, I asked them to sign an AVP banner and they both were happy to, still on cloud 9 from the win.
I like when the commentators try to predict how people's careers will play out. In this one they talk about who will pass Von Hagen... now we know. In other ones they talk about how many wins Sinjin or Randy would get after the split or who is going to play until they're 40 or who is going to the Olympics
Totals wins in a career does not mean a team is the best ever. It's about percentages over the number of years played. Kent simply abandoned Karch too soon in 1997. K & K would gone back to dominating by 1998.

Hov/Dodd - best big "game" team of all time. Nuff Said.

This is one of the best final of all times!!
that's my dad
Plus K&K dominated at the most competitive & talent deep time in beach volleyball history.

They would have won at least 30 more times together and possibly another Olympic gold. Then, no one would question it.
The Hov. 😃
Early on in their ventures they had some close ones with S & S, but they essentially sent them packing and I like S & S.

Smith/Stoklos are the best team of all time. Look it up...
