MY THOUGHTS ON THE GHK AK's - AK74MN & AK74U GBBR REVIEW

  • G'day everyone!
    In today's video, I'll be discussing the GHK AK platform and my experiences (good & bad) with the two GHK's I own. The AK74MN (AK103 Impression) & the AK74U Gas Blowbacks.
    Everyone told me to buy a GHK, so I did but it didn't go the way everyone told me it would. I've had a bunch of things go wrong with my AK's but managed to fix them all and now I love them!
    Hope you enjoy the video!
    And check out our TR Merch! Your support is much appreciated! :)

    My journey was totally different. Within first 100 rounds, my new ghk ak105 hopup chamber rim along with piece of hopup rubber got cracked, due to misfeeding. It was actually the mag feeding lip too tight, so the nozzle arm had to push too hard and eventually pushed it to the topup of hopup. I found that out a lot later unfortunately. What I instantly did is to replace the hopup unit with maple leaf one, with crazy jet inner barrel. I love them. But i also have to turn the hopup wheel by using a small alley key. That is not an issue for me as I rather want it tight than loose ( hopup would turn by themselves worst case ). Next was externally full zenitco furniture. Looks amazing with them. Later on internal again, I replace sear and hammer with steels ones. Then next was the, steel trigger ( ws single hook ), steel firing pin, steel auto lever, steel bolt ( with heavy recoil kit - the full steel guiding rod ) and full travel kit ( with harder spring installed ). I noticed the ws steel bolt won't work with Samoon hammer, unless i file off a bit top of hammer. I ended up just use the WS bolt come with the full travel kit. Now I have internal full steel except mag level ( nobody making one ), and full travel kit. They work so nicely. I could also switch to original bolt+spring unit+buffer block, any time I wish to. One more thing was I lost mag empty no firing function after switching to ws bolt. I had to file off a bit from mag lever, then attach the little spring ( from full travel kit ) to correct spot on mag lever. Now I have mag empty no firing back. In the end my ghk 105 is a alpha ak beast, both externally and internally. I am very proud.

      You can fix the empty magazine no fire function by putting a small spring heat shrink wrap or O rings on the las round lever. In this video its the part with the spring on it th-cam.com/video/-m0pDRwdh60/w-d-xo.html

    I stopped playing airsoft 6 months ago but I was a tech specializing in gbbrs here is my advice
    1. Buy TM gbbrs. They just work. All you need is to replace the nozzle spring and anyone can do that hell ship me the bolt and I’ll do it for you for free.
    2. Do NOT buy kwa they fucking suck.
    3. Learn to fix your own leaky mags it’s very easy
    4. Always leave a full charge of gas in gg mags
    Edit offer still stands the mws needs a new spring because it’s designed to be run with duster gas but they can run propane if you replace the spring if you don’t replace the spring all you really risk is the spring breaking which is just a downed gun for the day

    8:24 I had to do the same for my real steel gun. I bought an Izhmash SGL-31 in 5.45, but it had a smooth 103 style top cover. I bought a surplus ribbed AK-74 dust cover but the length was too long for it to seat so I did the exact same thing and I dremeled off the edge until the fit was perfect.

    You might want to replace both the hammer and the auto sear with steel ones. They WILL break at some point, the sear is likely to go first. If the selector lever is not all the way down when in semi, it puts a strange stress on the sear and breaks it. I have also found that using CO2 loosens the selector level nut as well and it needs tightening. Re the other issues that you have had, the barrel one is quite a common one to have when fitting a new hop unit. Another top tip is DO NOT FILE YOUR Mag feedlips. A lot of people say to do this cos they hurt their little hands trying to load mags and then file the feedlips which results in them being too wide and double feeding and jamming. The main cause of jams will be your nozzle wings breaking or sticking. Round off the wings a little so they are not so square and smooth out the channel they sit in. If they do break, just file them off completely, the aren't needed. Watch out as well for the little plastic rod that holds the shiny metal bolt arm on, it is prone to snapping. Also, only use hard BBs. Think that's everything I have learnt to date. Personally I don't think the W&S kit is worth it in terms of performance. On par with VFC? Wash your mouth out........The issues you have had are relatively minor, and to be honest might have been self inflicted by changing a load of stuff before you have even played with the rifle.....

      @@TOTALRECOILAIRSOFT fair enough. I didn't have that issue, but I know some have had. I thought that maybe the stronger recoil spring might be an issue. Definitely change out the sear and hammer though, they WILL break, unless yours has been pre upgraded but I doubt it

      Aww I thought GHK is all around good out of the box. I just own an WE AK-74 Wood which is not too bad. Already bought replacement trigger box set as I am too lazy to make the RA Tech steel set to fit. Power deviation is not too bad, only deviating from 1.4-1.8 joules on .32gram bb.
      Range is on par with BASR, able to reach 60 meter on flat trajectory before starting to droop. Only grouping and accuracy are not in 90% group, typical of gas GBB I guess?

    I'm a airsoft player from Taiwan. My GHK AKS74U&AK74M have been with me for 5 years, and I was almost had same issue as you, like wobble hopup and broken fire pin. but now, they are all replaced with steel parts, shoot smooth and straight.
    Due to the QC problem of GHK, many player in Taiwan says, the GHK will be beat down by the new TM AKM GBBR. but for me, my rifle is fine, they'll keep service with me very long time.

    Great video, very interesting !
    I never tried GHK AK, but my friends yes, and they all had malfunctions with their GHK, it was often issues from the trigger group, Hop Up chamber, or with the nozzles, I was surprised by all the issues they had, but with a little bit of work, they are running quite good now.
    For my part, I have a AKM GBBR from Tokyo Marui (with RATECH wood kit) because I wanted something easy to use, with no issues out the box, and it's boringly reliable, it's 336 FPS out of the box, good accuracy, cooldown resistance is very good (i play with it all the year) and i love the "CLICK" of the hammer down when i'm out of BB's :)
    It's subjective, but I'm not interested by full travel bolt carrier of big kick, the AKM from Marui has enough "recoil" for what I do with it, I like it.
    I have the same reliability with my others GBBR from Tokyo Marui : MP7A1, MK18 Mod 1, out of the box they're very good.
    Until now, no issues with my Marui AKM, and I like the RS type features that Marui put on the receiver : proof marks, the paint, good selector marks emplacement, recoil spring which looks like a real AK recoil spring....etc
    I don't think GHK AK'S are bad guns, lot of them are very good out of the box, but I don't want to have to pay for upgrades or replacement part with any replica out of the box because of bad quality control or bad quality zamac pieces or other things.
    So, I tried Tokyo Marui GBBR's just for serenity, tranquility, even if no Airsoft gun is perfect, and protected from a breakage one day or another !
    But one day, I will try a GHK, maybe a AK74 MN, it looks very good :)
    Greetings from France

    • @Solidsnake0208
      @Solidsnake0208 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would agree here, Marui is not the most realistic, but somehow their replicas (including their GBBRs) just WORK out of the box. I’m no stranger to tech work, but bad QC is a difficult problem to solve sometimes if you have two parts that just ever so slightly off spec. You can remove material to get it working, but if the part is undersized you cannot add it.
      I do own a GHK 553, to be honest I have no complaints about it other than the magazine broke before I even fielded it. I’d say the biggest problem with the GHK AKs seems to be that their built from LCT receivers.

    • @BadaBingPictures
      @BadaBingPictures 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TOTALRECOILAIRSOFT Those wings on the nozzle are a critical failure point. One will wear down/break off (or both), and this could position the nozzle just off centre which results in a stoppage. The easiest solution is simply to cut both of those tabs/wings off completely and this will ensure the nozzle remains in a central position for positive chambering.
      That’s what I was getting here:
      th-cam.com/video/pc76mfoRPn4/w-d-xo.html

    • @TOTALRECOILAIRSOFT
      @TOTALRECOILAIRSOFT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I’ve seen it before. You discussed it in RPK video right? So you really reckon just cut them off? I knew these were an issue so I’ve got 4x spare nozzles for the inevitable breakage. And does cutting them off have any unwanted side effects?

    • @BadaBingPictures
      @BadaBingPictures 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TOTALRECOILAIRSOFT I believe I did, yeah.
      I haven’t had any malfunctions due to losing the tabs. I had to replace the o rings because they seemed to have shrunk and that lost some compression. Then that would allow the nozzle to fall out of the carrier and droop downwards if you racked it without a mag installed.
      Problem is it doesn’t have a return spring. Some say that nozzle return springs don’t really need to be there unless it’s a high ROF gun etc etc...however I would just feel more comfortable having one there anyway.
      The 553 is close to the AK in design and GHK included one inside that BCG. I always thought if they made a Version 3 AK series it would include a nozzle spring.
      You can take preventive measures if you want. It’s up to you mate.

    (GHK's) "ready to go, out of the box that you could upgrade if you wanted but didn't really need to"
    oh my... where the heck did you hear this from I wonder
    10 GHK AKs later I still havent found the perfect receiver that didn't have a loose rivet or a jammed hopup. C-clips, springs and fittings in general are some really cheapo crap. Replace these with generic ones from a proper machinist. The next thing that should go is your sear spring, I've had these fail on me.
    Also, CrazyJets are not "widebores". They're 6.04mm which is tighter than factory 6.08mm, widebores typically refer to anything from 6.08mm. Widebores in fact work very well over 2J as they were designed in Taiwan and likely tested as such

    the reciever on the ak74m is a little bit longer compared to its real steel counterpart. This makes real dust covers too short to work properly, maybe the front sight block being too close will make real steel covers work, which is pretty cool

    Have 10+ top tier GBBRs in my armory like VFC, GHK, Marui. All I can advice here is to get Marui MWS to blast out of the box without problems for years. Exellent stability and cycling. VFC sucks at hop ups - they can't make it work stable enough. GHK M4 is kinda fine, but GHK Akm was the worst. Even after installing mapple leaf rubber and barrel - consistency remains to be below mediocre. Well, I use them at CQB mostly - so the range does not seems to be crucial in my case, and the decent amount of skill to onetap your foes compensates the lack of range just fine.

      In contrast to total recoil's issue of having an outer barrel 1 rotation too loose, yours might be 1 rotation too tight. You may have to undo your front end and test. A good way to test fit is to undo the outer barrel but completely seat your inner barrel and hop group, then tighten the outer barrel group until it won't screw in anymore.

      I run a WE SVD as my primary, with a 6.02 barrel and a maple leaf bucking. Amazing hop, incredible kick, great accuracy and range. That is, after I addressed the issue of wobbly mags, cause before that it was ridiculously inconsistent. As he said, I have yet to find a GBBR that works perfectly out of the box.
      Yeah, you can run GBBR DMRs, and they can easily outperform AEGs due to instant trigger response and no issues with cylinder / barrel volume ratios. But you need to carefully choose the platform and upgrades first, 99% of GBB upgrades out there are actually detrimental.

    Cleaning them, stripping them whatever you need to do, it's always in your hands, you need to gain some knowledge about them and that makes owning one unique.
