@Keith Panton Having a degree in a certain subject does not make you qualified to run a country. Being in the world of work and having a reasonable amount of success in it or being involved and successful in political campaigning or community organising does.
George Galloway has said if Labour aren't third he'll eat his hat; sounds familiar! Anyone remember what happened when he promised that in Bradford!? I think he reneged on the deal. But I can't remember precisely what it was over. I think it's just part of his ridiculous persona building. I think the irony of the smooth jazz was too subtle and just adds to it.
Great analysis. I think one of the comments by Andy Burnham was bang on the money. In addition to knowing what Labour stands for, being available and working locally whether or not you are in power is vital to regaining support. In our area the Lib Dems have been active for the past 4 or 5 years. They were active at least a year before the local election and have not stopped actively listening and doing in the community. Andy said that what mattered was regional devolution and this is it. When people see action and when politicians get in and can back this up with further resources and access to information then this is a recipe for success.
There's no doubt that Kim would be a better MP to lead the local community, but Starmer is a poisoned well for the Party. But Westminster Labour will never learn its lesson with its current leadership and front bench
@@danielwebb8402 the lessons that I'd say Westminster needs to learn are: 1. not to take voters for granted (or what I like to call "the Mandelson problem"). 2. They need to stop with the mental gymnastics and the scapegoating for their leadership failures - they were all to ready to point out Corbyn's numerous failures, yet when the shoe is on the other foot it's all head in the sand.
He's a man who's lived, he's seen what division, nationalism and hatred does, just a minute of his wisdom is worth more than the hundreds of thousands spent on divisive campaigning.
A great watch. I hope Labour do lose, like the people in this film, I feel totally unpresented by Starmer. Andy Burnham won as he's a decent, warm and engaging person who gets lots of media coverage. Other candidates do not have that luxury. I'd be voting for Galloway if I lived here, couldn't stomach voting for either of the big two at the moment.
Oooh the shade you threw at that barking dog Owen! I saw another side to you then! Great doc. Love these docs you do. You and John Harris are the best at these!
As a Conservative voter this video made wonderful viewing as Labour sink further into oblivion. However I don't doubt that the Torys have made mistakes and they need a strong opposition. Sadly under Starmer nothing could be further from the truth. Personally I would hope the Liberal Democrats can eventually replace Labour, at least they have proven they can win and win big.
The problem with the Lib Dems is they're nothing more than an opportunist party. Who're masters at winning byelections. By campaigning on very specific local issues in order to hoodwink constituents. However, that approach eventually fails when you have enough MP's to form coalitions, which leads to your once loyal voter base branding you as sell outs like in 2010.
As a Labour Party member, it might be an idea for you to actually go and campaign for the Labour candidate instead of giving soft ball interviews to Galloway.
Labour is very much in the middle of an existential crisis. Divided by left and right factions of the party and also indeed by remainers and brexiteers. A lot of red wall constituencies are also under massive pressures after decade long austerity and public sector cuts. Voters see Labour Councils running a situation of managed decline which they cop the blame for. Many Labour Councils are also making large scale planning decisions which are hostile, antagonistic and deeply unpopular. There's a total lack of leadership and policies.
Leadbetter stands for absolutely nothing apart from her own political career. She would backtrack on just about any belief just to get in the Cabinet. She couldn't even form an opinion on a pay rise for nurses.
I worked with/under Galloway, he's an egomaniac only interested in putting himself in the center of the spotlight - sadly for the people of Batley & Spen he's not interested in their issues in the slightest...
"sadly for the people of Batley & Spen he's not interested in their issues in the slightest" Well, if you are right, and he wins, then it will be little different to any other politician of any other party. Even when they have an interests the system is designed to make sure they do as little as possible with regards to changing anything of use.
I'd wager the mindset you interviewed at 4:40 is probably more common than you would be willing to admit amongst so called "Old Labour" voters. This just shows how out of touch London is with the rest of the UK. The Tories know this and are cynically capitalising on that faux nationalism that came with the Brexit vote. In an ideal world we'd all get on as the delightful old man says at 5:10, but we know human nature doesn't work like that. Or at least, the sensible amongst us do. The place feels like a lost outpost. Both sides need to integrate, but how on earth can that take place where there's zealots like Galloway denting any hope of that.

The man at 5:22 is a genius; let's just talk, love it!
Corbyn won it three times , though tbf one of those was with no opposition
After which he was a great PM and implemented all his policies
Pre-Boris.
@@agt155 He won it in 2019 but the Brexit Party didn't stand
@@samjoshi1812 You are right. I forgot Corbyn lost two elections.
Starmer gets battered everywhere he goes, everywhere he goes.
Labour show even more contempt than the Tories. How saddening. At least the Tories can be bothered to find a boogeyman to hide the fact they don't care.
Unfortunately Mr Burnham has it wrong. Its not an emotional connection the LP has lost with members and Labour voters its a political connection its has badly lost. Please stop listening to the prince of darkness .. .. ..
I’m beginning to think that I probably won’t see a labour majority for decades to come
There will never again be a Labour majority Govt.
The very big challenge to for the party is whether it survives.
Kick out starmer and get a leadership challenge going
sick of him
"Contentious characters come in and capitalise on these divisions" lol they most certainly do!

I believe that he’s sincere. I believe that he’ll put others well-being ahead of his own. No small thing in an age when the predominant mantra among politicians , feels more like: “Never mind Me Too… Me First”.
Despite all of this, I don’t believe the British electorate will ever send him to Downing Street. It’s a shame.
That old bloke at 5:13 hit the nail right on the head.
The conscientious know, that their liberal values are under a very serious threat. So what can you do?
Come on Owen?????
And everybody who disagrees with you is a bigot.
Flat cap guy. What a legend.
25:20 - Lol, she doesn't have any qualifications other than being Jo Cox's sister.
@Keith Panton Having a degree in a certain subject does not make you qualified to run a country. Being in the world of work and having a reasonable amount of success in it or being involved and successful in political campaigning or community organising does.
This place was left behind a long time ago, lived here 52 years , crime, decay and lack of opportunity biggest issue.
Same in every town really
The story of every town outside London and the South East.
It was Paddy Ashdown that said it if the SNP got more seats than the Lib dums! Which they did.
@@paulwilson2651 I looked up and was seeing that. I'm not sure if I remembered it wrong. But I thought there was something from Galloway!
SUPER GEORGE GALLOWAY FOR THE WIN!
Starmer last chance how many chances does he want
Great analysis. I think one of the comments by Andy Burnham was bang on the money. In addition to knowing what Labour stands for, being available and working locally whether or not you are in power is vital to regaining support. In our area the Lib Dems have been active for the past 4 or 5 years. They were active at least a year before the local election and have not stopped actively listening and doing in the community. Andy said that what mattered was regional devolution and this is it. When people see action and when politicians get in and can back this up with further resources and access to information then this is a recipe for success.
1:20 that's not Batley that's Newtown in Birmingham..I've lived in both places lol
There's no doubt that Kim would be a better MP to lead the local community, but Starmer is a poisoned well for the Party. But Westminster Labour will never learn its lesson with its current leadership and front bench
What lesson is that?
Membership voted for Starmer. They could have voted in someone else.
@@danielwebb8402 actually it was voter apathy that won as more members didn't vote than voted.
@@danielwebb8402 the lessons that I'd say Westminster needs to learn are: 1. not to take voters for granted (or what I like to call "the Mandelson problem"). 2. The PLP needs to stop pretending like Westminster is the be all and end all. 3. They need to stop with the mental gymnastics and the scapegoating for their leadership failures - they were all to ready to point out Corbyn's numerous failures, yet when the shoe is on the other foot it's all head in the sand.
Make the man in the flat cap mayor, what an absolutely awesome attitude, perfect, the only way forward.
He's a man who's lived, he's seen what division, nationalism and hatred does, just a minute of his wisdom is worth more than the hundreds of thousands spent on divisive campaigning.
Seeing Owen Jones and George Galloway sitting together just feels right
17:17 "it's far more complicated". I don't like that kind of misstrust to people.
Love the man in the flat cap!
Oooh the shade you threw at that barking dog Owen! I saw another side to you then! Great doc. Love these docs you do. You and John Harris are the best at these!
Seriously? John Harris and Owen Jones? You have got to be kidding!
Pandering to the Ms… jeez
The locals probably need to start their own party, do they really need new labour?
Nobody needs New Labour.
Alas poor Keef, I knew him well...
This is excellent Owen! Thank you so much for this comprehensive, polished coverage!
Great doc
GEORGE GALLOWAY is the KING!
if you want YOUR country back people of batley.............then VOTE ENGLISH DEMOCRATS the only CONSTITUTIONAL PARTY
As a Labour Party member, it might be an idea for you to actually go and campaign for the Labour candidate instead of giving soft ball interviews to Galloway.
As a political journalist, Owen should do political journalism.
Why doesn’t Johnson & his cronies just get it over with and declare war on China or start to maintain or improve peoples’ lives ? 😎
labour has not got any answers
Very informative video, well done Owen and his team.
Another excellent documentary, thank you
Did Kim Leadbeater *really* say "moving forward"?!
Labour has only been Labour for about 4 years in the last 40. Very sad!
🙄
Leadbetter stands for absolutely nothing apart from her own political career.
She would backtrack on just about any belief just to get in the Cabinet.
She couldn't even form an opinion on a pay rise for nurses.
1:17 that's not batley and Spen, it's Newtown Birmingham 😭
whats the question at 15:10? Have you ever been legged by a member? egged? please help
I dont mind if Galloway does well, and Boris will be happy as long as Starmer is likely to get his pink slip after the result.
I worked with/under Galloway, he's an egomaniac only interested in putting himself in the center of the spotlight - sadly for the people of Batley & Spen he's not interested in their issues in the slightest...
Well he has my vote.
"sadly for the people of Batley & Spen he's not interested in their issues in the slightest"
Well, if you are right, and he wins, then it will be little different to any other politician of any other party. Even when they have an interests the system is designed to make sure they do as little as possible with regards to changing anything of use.
So, Owen Jones. Just watched your contribution to Novara Media and then this. Should I rejoin the Labour Party now, ready for a leadership challenge?
yes
Yes. I have stayed in to vote.

Because you?????
