The 5.11’s are the most comfortable jeans you will ever wear. They literally feel like pajamas but are durable as hell. I love them.

    • @ey_bud1620
      @ey_bud1620 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Durable? BS. I owned a pair of 5.11's, and the crotch blew out on me 4 months in. I wasn't even doing anything particularly active in them, other than working retail. The pockets also developed holes in them from my cell phone and wallet. Would not recommend.

My experience with 5.11 has been terrible. The groin area would tear open at the worst times. If they did last a while you still had a problem of the knees tearing along that seem on the knee area. Just to be fair this was in the desert so maybe heat and moisture play a role but I learned not to trust 5.11

1:45 $67 Tactical Distributor McQuade: good belt loop spacing, favorite mag pocket, leatherman flush in coin, straight fit.
5:30 $68 Tactical Distributor SYG most comfy (least durable?), camo accent, addt front pocket over front pocket, fat belt loops, not straight, not slim or baggy.
8:33 $55 5.11 defender flex slim dark wash indigo, belt loops too close in front, front pocket tightish, mag pouch too high for easy pull on flashlight/tool, smallish back pockets.
11:35 $135 TAD, no pre-fade wash, no stretchy thighs, tightish pockets, button fly, tightish belt loops, tightest mag pouch.
16:20 $150 oxcart, favorite pair, smallest belt loops, huge easy pockets, shortest fly, slim fit leg.
    * also, do all these darker jeans lose colors, stain other clothes or which specific ones. important.
    * i always do high knees in new pants. and a chem-treated fabric noise test going up stairs.
    * i seek 90%+ natural fiber for breathability/toxicity/heatrisk and noise risk. higher than 10% synthetic can/will melt/fuse to your skin in a high heat scenario incl a boy at a campfire.
    * shiny/noisy, like metal/velcro, are useless in a tactical stealth situation and chem-treated fabrics, specially synthetics, make/add noise. you should be able to sneak up on your dog no problem.

Came for the Tactical Jeans review, subbed for the doggo.
As for care, just turn them inside out when you wash them. The dye may bleed, but it will be re-caught by the fabric and have noticeably less fade. Unless you *like* the fade, in which case wash them right side out.

They make TAD Intercepts that are stretch. I have a pair stretch denim black warp/weft Cone Mills ones. Very comfortable, but still less stretch than the Oxcarts. You just got the selvedge Cone Mills 100% cotton denim ones. The Cone Mills White Oak plant was the last mill that was weaving selvedge denim in the USA, but they just recently shut down. You're right about the TADs being well made. The coin pockets bother me though because things that I'm trying to put in the front pockets often get caught on the coin pockets on the way in. Still like Oxcarts the most. Glad you added them to this line up. I love denim and EDC stuff, so this was a great review. Thanks!

Fantastic video. I can't imagine a more informative video on these jeans. I realize it's because of your age, but what you refer to as a "change pocket" is actually called a "watch pocket." That was the pocket that people used to put their pocket watch (on a chain) in when pocket watches were a thing, back in the day.......before MY day too, but I am old enough to know the history of that little pocket. Great job, and thanks. Those pants are expensive though, eeesh.

Oxcart just got bought by Dom Raso and Dynamis Alliance. My understanding is Dynamis is expanding their adaptiv line of tactical clothing, and taking Oxcart's capabilities into the fold. Should be a good look. They've teased a new pant concept that has an integrated waistband system that you can direct attach pouches etc. . . to.

Excellent review! Love the detail and thanks for demonstrating with an actual EDC! Love your guest model, give that dog a treat. 😉 Just FYI, I think they were originally considered watch pockets, not "change pockets". If I recall correctly, the original canvas pant were popularized when watches on chains were pretty common.

Neomag pistol magazine holder would fit perfectly in those front small pockets of the Mcquades. I’m a smaller guy and have tried the side car style holsters an I just print way too much if I carry my p10c and a spare magazine right next to it. I also wear my belt so the buckle is positioned to my right hip instead of up front due to either the belt loops not being spaced enough and also to keep the buckle from sticking out too far from my holster pushing it forward. Digging those for sure.

To be quite honest when it comes to tactical bottom wear I prefer the bdu material and different types of casuals from cargos a must to whatever's! But cotton is cool but most tacticals have to have many strands of strong fibers to keep from tearing if not why wear them? The idea is the strength and comfort.

The big issue with many of the tactical jeans is that all of them don’t place a small pocket on top the front main left pocket. This is known as “coin pocket”. They place one on the right side but not one on the left side. And I need one there for a 9mm mag. So they are useless for me.

Great review. I would like to see you paying more attention on the belt loops, especially the once @ the back. I love the rear double belt loops (5.11 Defender Flex Jeans) or the single thicker (wide width) belt loop used in the 5.11 Apex pants. Thanks for talking about “True to size” issue and mentioning in which size and inseam are the jeans you wear, it helps a lot.
PS. What do you think about KITANICA jeans/pants? I would love to see their product/a in your vid in the future.

When it comes to tactical jeans, most companies miss a really important feature which is comfortable AND ACCESSABLE cellphone storage for when you are sitting. Think about it, we are not always in a standing position. Sometimes we are sitting at a bar stool or just a seat in a bar. The phone goes off but it's practically trapped in our pants in a sitting position. To retrieve it we have to go through all these exertions and motions, nearly having to stand up sometimes. Not only is this inconvenient; it also attracts attention and momentarily distracts our focus from what's going on around us. BIG MISTAKE. Sure, life always has its inconveniences even among the Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men . But distracting cellphone retrieval should be thought of and eliminated ahead pf time. Thus side cargo pockets still seem to be the best option for phone retrieval sitting or standing. I wish there were more options like this for jeans.

Good review, thanks. Have you reviewed or tried the Condor Outdoor Cipher Jean? If so, how do they stack up to the Mcquade? Thanks for the hard work.

I have the condor ciphers, they are good too. They are a very slim fit but much more stretchy than the mcquades. They also have an elastic waist that the mcquades don’t have. I liked the ciphers bc when 5.11 advertised the defender flex, they took forever to release and Condor produced the ciphers and had them for sale before 5.11 ever released the defender flex. I tend to wear my mcquades more often, but simply because the cut is a little more loose/straight fit.

Have you found any other “tactical” jeans? I couldn’t care about them being “tactical” just looking for a slimmer/tapered fit with rear hip (mag) pockets. I’ve tried OTG (they don’t hold up as well as the other pants of theirs) and 5.11 slim (not slim at all to me- the older version was but they don’t make them like that any more).

What’s the wash on the TD McQuades? I don’t see it on the website.

What tactical jeans would give a nice modern slim tapered look?

I'm half joking; but I'm curious. Do they make tactical drawls?

Just bought the McQuad jeans. I usually wear 36" jeans. Bought size down due to review. Crouch is very low and I can pull pants off like sweat pants with pants buttoned they are that loose. I can't imagine I need to get a 32". Do these pants shrink at all? Does TD sell any other jeans with lower ride? I feel like I have to pull these up higher than usual to fit right.

Switch to the Xore belt. Too much bulk up front with that belt.

Is there a pair in here that you think would work alright as a slim bootcut? I want to find a pair of stretchy "tactical" jeans that will pair nicely with my cowboy boots.

do you know if the mcquade jeans will shrink in the wash? i got mine and they're a bit large and was wondering if we're supposed to shrink them to fit
