Freddie's interviews are so sincere, fun and sweet, and it's rare that he opens up like that, it's lucky we have these moments recorded, thank you Pluto!

"It's rare that he opens up like that." Of course it helps that the interviewer is actually listening instead of constantly interrupting.

David Wigg and Freddie were good friends.....look at Freddie’s right hand...see the wedding band?.....Jim Hutton and Freddie wore them....They were together until Freddie died.....there are lots of pics of them together......they really loved one another.......they lived together in Garden Lodge.....this is Freddie being guarded about his private life...who could blame him...the rag newspapers in Britain were merciless in their pursuit of Freddie...shame on them!......Freddie was brave...courageous....adorable....charming.....so talented...and so kind to all🤩

Great interview! The Mary that he was refering to is Mary Austin. She was an old girlfriend (they were engaged until he came to terms with his sexuality). She stayed by him and were great friends til he passed in 91. Thank you for all your reactions!

David Wigg was a friend of Freddie's, he trusted in him. Mary was Freddie's bride, they were a couple for cca. 7 years, who supported him in the early days of the band, she was the breadwinner. Later she became Freddie's secretary and it was a life long friendship. Freddie was a true phoenix, and I love his irony. This is my favourite interview.

Bride? They never even got married. When she asked him if she should think about getting a dress he told her no.

Yes David Wigg was a Friend and Freddie trusted him. Mary Austin was his fiance they were in a relationship for 6 years, that part of the relationship ended, but they remained extremely close all his life, he left nearly everything to her.

Freddie and Mary dated and lived together for up to 7 years. And stayed best friends until his death. Freddie left his house and everything in it and most of his money to Mary in his will.

If Freddie hadn't died so early, they would probably still be together today. Sure they had wild times but the band was always the center. And all 4 had a stable work ethic and never tired of going in new directions.

It is completely understandable that he is suspicious, Freddie was betrayed by so many people he liked and trusted a lot, such as Barbara Valentin and Prenter who used him to make fame and money, and yet he was always willing to give second chances. Too good for this world...

    • @jodawson5268
      @jodawson5268 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

Barbara did not use him at all. Dont forget she was famous in her own right, especially in Germany. She didn't need his fame or his money. They were very close, they were partners in crime really as Freddie had a wild side and so did she. She just got him, understood what fame could do to someone and that he needed nurturing. You are correct about Prenter of course and he really dropped him in it.

Just read Freestone's report or look for Mary's lines, she gave false information to the press that they were going to get married when they bought an apartment (which Freddie never stayed in) when at the time of recording his album he was living in the house of a boyfriend (whose name I don't remember but who he even thanks for hosting part of the dedication of his album). When he saw the news saying that they were going to get married out of nowhere, he cut off relations with her for a long time. It's naive to think that it wasn't on purpose, news of celebrities getting married always puts their names in the spotlight, but she did it even though she knew how difficult it was for Freddie to keep the press away.

Barbara Valantin did not need Freddie for fame, in fact in Germany she was more famous than him.She was a famous film star, so she didn't need his money either. She just loved him and why not.

The band never performed solo songs in concert (that I’m aware of) but there is a song called I Was Born To Love You, which was on Freddie’s album Mr. Bad Guy which Queen re-recorded after Freddie’s death and it’s on the album Made In Heaven. The band have performed it live in the last few years with Adam Lambert.

I’m not sure if I’ve actually seen this before (and I watch/listen to/read every Freddie interview I can find)!
This is definitely one half of a longer interview in its entirety, because it’s the other part which is more famous. (The other part is where Freddie’s infamous “Hell’s much better!” quote comes from.)
    This must be a lesser-known part two.🖖

Not sure if the whole interview is online, but you'll certainly find clips which will give you the full story. David Wigg was a friend and one journalist Fred trusted, I think he wrote for The Daily Mail and or Daily Express here in the UK. Mary Austin was Fred one and only true love and I'd say that the feeling was mutual for Mary, they met when she had a couple of dates with Sir Brian May around 1969, and they were in a relationship until around 1975/76, but he would always reference Mary as his closest friend and common law wife. I think Mary married for a short time and had two children who Freddie dotted on, whoever Mary married they've never spoken out or sold stories, the time of this interview Fred had been with Jim Hutton for a couple of years, but in reality no one ever took the place of Mary and Freddie would say this in the rare interviews he gave

Freddie would NEVER have spoken publicly about his relationships with men nor his true feelings for them. So we don't know. But we do know he referred to Jim as his husband. People love to exaggerate his relationship with Mary, whom he cheated on with men and dumped for a man while hiding his true self, hardly a great relationship really is it lol? And they like to play down his passionate relationships with men because one, we know less about it and two - homophobia. Even in the year 2023. It's just so much more comfortable for some people to gush over the one long term relationship with a woman rather than the times he was in love with men. Sad really, especially considering he clearly wasn't happy with Mary. If he was he wouldn't have beeen living a lie and cheating. Not sure why so many people are so desperate to paint them as such a perfect couple in love. Mary even said for the last few years of their relationship she was just in denial that he was interested in her and knew he had no intention of marrying her.

I think it's quite normal for artists not to perform their solo stuff when performing with the band. Stevie Nicks doesn't perform Stand Back, Beauty and the Beast, ort Edge of Seventeen when she's with Fleetwood Mac. They do pretty well at keeping their various careers separate.

The thing to remember is that Freddie would NEVER have spoken publicly about his relationships with men nor his true feelings for them. But speaking about Mary even years after they were over was a good cover to give the illusion he might be straight to the public.
We DO know he referred to Jim as his husband. People love to exaggerate his relationship with Mary, whom he cheated on with men and dumped for a man while hiding his true self - hardly a great relationship really is it lol? And they like to play down his passionate relationships with men because one, we know less about it and two - homophobia. Even in the year 2023. It's just so much more comfortable for some people to gush over the one long term relationship with a woman rather than the times he was in love with men. Sad really, especially considering he clearly wasn't happy with Mary at the time. If he WAS he wouldn't have beeen living a lie and CHEATING on her. That's not the actions of someone who's happy in a relationship with the supposed 'love of their life' Not sure why so many people are so desperate to paint them as such a perfect couple in love. Mary even said for the last few years of their relationship she was just in denial that he was interested in her and knew he had no intention of marrying her.
But because of people's attitudes and because Freddie was a very private person, we'll never know how he felt about the men he loved. So people will just keep banging on about Mary.
