Blood for the Blood God is the brand new video from Cruachan, taken from our new album. The video was shot in Dubiln, Ireland by Angel Croiter (Puka productions). The video features George Bracebridge as the main Shaman, George is a professional actor currently appearing in various Irish TV productions including TV3’s new crime drama “Red Rock”. Also featured is Rachel Lally as the Chieftans wife, Rachel is a professional actor and model from the Assets modelling agency in Ireland, she also presents “County Matters” for Irish TV on Sky 191.
The narrative shows the grim and selfless task taken by the Chieftan of a Gaelic village to sacrifice his own first born child to the Blood God known as Crom Cruach. By appeasing the God in this way he hopes to restore glory and fortune to his clan. His wife must accompany him on this journey and partake in the ritual of sacrifice despite the obvious pain it is causing both of them.

I remember being a teenager at Day Of Darkness and having a beer with these guys at the Pedigree Corner. The closest I've felt to being surrounded by stars. \m/
It should be noted that this kind of sacrifice was quite rare, and only done in times of great desperation, such as in times of great famine and times of desperate war. It was also a practice that by the time of the romans had fallen out of favor in most of the celtic world.
So I am going to Ireland this January and I was looking for Irish folk metal and I found this, it may be good to listen to this there lol

Well, those were some pretty brutal lyrics. I don't know what I expected from a song with that title, but damn, good stuff.
Cruachan works almost like opening a story ebook and tapping to "read aloud". When the beliefs of those ancient "pagan" cultures are literally sung and the full intensity of the meaning comes out naturally, it becomes brutal, absolutely.

I like most kinds of heavy metal/dark/death metal, but there is something so distinct that I love about Celtic death metal. Perhaps it is the 6/8 time signature and the use of a violin... :)

This is some solid stuff. I love Celtic history and getting in touch with those roots of mine, and the lyrics here do a solid job of both explaining and rightfully glorifying the legends.
Just in case anyone misinterprets this, I'm not talking about the child sacrifice shit when I'm talking about Cruachan "rightfully glorifying Celtic history and legend". As stated in another comment of mine, child sacrifice never happened in any Celtic cultures or clans.

They did, but not babies. There's no evidence or anything of the sort that supported Druidic sacrifices of children. It was only adults, either prisoners of some form or willing volunteers.

Kinda want to clarify something here, for anyone concerned about the implications of this song: It's not true. Celts never sacrificed babies or children. There is absolutely no archaeological evidence that could remotely support such events transpiring in the past. As for adults being sacrificed, though... There were a lot of those. A LOT.
To be fair to Cruachan, though, this is mostly meant to be a disturbing dramatization of a rather twisted story involving a Celtic man who'd sacrifice literally anything to get his clan out of the mud, even his own child. The child sacrifice part may not be remotely accurate, since such things did not happen, but the narrative is still compelling and disturbing in its own brilliant way. Like, holy shit, what kind of horrid clan-wide event would compel a man and his wife to offer their firstborn up in sacrifice like that? What tenets of their faith and culture could ever justify this? Is such a thing, even from the lens of this clan, really worth it and ethical? The narrative gets you asking those kinds of questions, and for most, including myself, it gets you feeling rather upset for the fictional child, as well as the clan and family, since a child of their own is being offered to Crom Cruach for the good of the entire clan. As much as this is a good Celtic history band, there's still gonna be a bit of liberty taken with certain lyrics in their songs, and sometimes they'll get things a bit wrong.
