I don't think there's any risk of BTAS being forgotten. It remains one of the most celebrated animated shows of all time. Apart from re-releases and remasters of the show, there's still a steady stream of merch and products being released. LEGO, Hot Wheels, birthday cake decorations, etc, etc. I can't think of many shows from that era, which still get as much attention as this. It's probably second only to The Simpsons. As for this set, it had somehow completely escaped my attention. But I will definitely pick these up.
I would have been sooo much happier getting these accessories back in the day. Most of the Kenner action feature gimmicks immediately went in a box to be forgotten about, like Combat Belt Batman's spring-loaded rocket launcher. Since when was *that* on BTAS!?
One of those, Keep making the same thing, so then you’ll never buy it, complain about the price & you can type out a “can’t wait to see it at Ross,” comment.
Nice review! Very curious about this line, but not sure it’s for me. I agree on the subject of retro, I think we’re at a tipping point here. I’d just love to see a modern, 1:12, line for BTAS. The DC Direct stuff was fine for its time, these retro toys have some appeal, but BTAS deserves its own definitive, modern, interpretation in plastic. I wish these 5 points also had swappable legs. The arms are cool, but some poses are off because the legs are just straight up and down. Still, these are neat and I wish ReAction had this much creativity.
Just got the Batmobile and all of those figures. Who cares about the price- it is a Perfect Retro moment and so well done. Awesome quality. Today I am 42 and can easily spend money for stuff like that. It is for grown up kids- enjoy!!
I hope Mezco does the batwing aswell. The Mcfarlane Batwinf is great but too big for me. I don't much space so. I hope for a reasonable price. Mezco Batman on a batcycle definitely is a must for me. Second wave figures I don't know yet. Mezco doing The New Batman adventures will be cool so
I have the Mezco 1966 batman pack and the Superman set as well. These are a home run, in my opinion. I'm glad they chose to do single packs for the animated line and am quite surprised to learn of a 2nd wave. I wish they would continue the 66 line as well in that format. They fit perfect in my 3.75 Star wars universe and scales well with some of spinmaster figures such as the 89 Batman that came with the 89 batmobile. 3.75 is BTW the same scale as the O-ring G.I. Joe which I am not into but I do mention it because the G.I.Joe transformers are scaled to that. Super7 marvel retro is the same size. That's basically puts Star Wars, DC, G.I. Joe, transformers and marvel; finally in one perfect scale with each other.
I think I get what you mean about the retro toy styling. I love the character design from BTAS and that must be retained, but the product format must stand out from what is already on the market. The McFarlane/DC Direct reissues are similar to this, albeit a larger scale with limitations in articulation. I would like to see more of what MAFEX started to do with the Batman from the TNBA. Modern articulation, detailed accessories, swappable capes, and head portraits. The look and style is still present, but you can do more poses for more dynamic presentation. Id like to see that.
If anything, nostalgia for retro series from the 80's and 90's as toys is bigger then ever before and probably not stopping any time soon from the looks of things
This line is AWESOME! The details are fantastic and they look like they popped right off the screen. One of my favorite lines right now and it blows the McFarlane/Direct line away imo. Catwoman is definitely my favorite from this first series. Wish future releases weren't such a wait so we could get more characters faster but I'm sure it will be worth the wait. Hoping for a Ivy, Baby Doll, Gordon, Batgirl, Summer(would be a nice surprise), Alfred, Montoya and Bullock sooner than later
Got the batmobile and its a great sub for the OG i have the og kenner tonka batmobilebut not NIP this was a great substitute for having a cool boxed batmobile on my shelfs with old kenner stuff a bit small for my mcfarlane set but sits well next to the OG😊
I think these companies push so hard for this nostalgia because it was the last era of the toy shows. There are lots of cool things that came after, of course, but companies are so conservative and if their options are bleeding 40 year olds dry for nostalgia or risking a brand new toyline, they're going to go for the nostalgia.
These feel a bit overpriced imo when compared to Hasbro's Retro Collection boxed sets (of 6 figures). In addition the previous Mezco 5 points Batman 66 boxed set had some poor QC primarily with some really bad paint work imo. The paint on Catwoman's masked face isn't really close to the promo pics (in a negative way) which is disappointing imo. As a result, I passed on these. Imagine how many more they would have sold w/the carded figures being included in a boxed set with retro styling & images on the box (like for the batmobile) as Hasbro's done w/some of their Retro collection waves issues. The cardbacks and batmobile pkg. look great though imo. Thx much for the detail review & post.
Great review! One question though about the capes on Batman and Robin. Well on Mezco Batman 66 cape was like loose rubber like...so I was wondering does this Batman TAS figure's cape have better quality of bendable, sturdier plastic. Or is it the same?
@@guido456it’s not fair pricing. Spin Master gave us a Batmobile from The Batman movie that had lights & sounds along with a fully articulated Battinson figure for $30.
Toy shiz i love your videos but the head scuplts on these figures are off cause i collected kenners base figures of btas and their batman along with joker has their head scuplts look like they're straight off the show while these mezco have something weird about them but thats my opinion and i love your vids keep up the great work 😊
I don't like the blue, why not just make it black like it's suppose to be...I just got the Target exclusive McFarlane Animated Batmobile and it has a weird blueish mix color... I just prefer the all black.
Nostalgia and retro is not dying. It sells like crazy and is why there is so much of it. I hope it never goes away. We’re 8 years into the Retro Revolution and last I checked Reaction was still going strong for Super7 which is what kickstarted the retro revolution. Every time something new is tried people complain or it fails. They did try and do something new with BTAS and it failed miserably thanks to elements that could have been avoided. The Caped Crusader BTAS revival was amazing. It was all the best parts of BTAS turned up to 11 and finally gave us a censor free show and straight from Bruce Timm. They made a bunch of identity politics type changes such as race and gender swapping that tanked the show. I didn’t mind any of that because the animation, music, voice acting and writing were so top shelf and not to mention the Film Noir style. It was BTAS on steroids but it got torn to shreds. Mcfarlane has the perfect opportunity to continue the DC Direct line by making figures based on this show but itll probably never happen. Mezco’s 5-Points Fleischer Superman and 1966 Batman sets are fantastic. 66 Batman comes with a great Batmobile and 5-6 figures including a version of Riddler that has never been made before. It’s Gorshin’s formal suit with the hat. All the 5-Points sets are true retro scale of 3.75”.
IKR? Like I would totally spend dumb money on characters to fit in with my og toybiz or kenner collections. i don't know why they do every scale but the one I need for that so i resort to trying to customize figures instead
these look ok but definitely too small.. having them at the same scale and maybe even the same molds of the original Kenner 4.5 inch figures would have been the better bet like toybiz did with the rereleases of the retro tmnt figures. those i might have gotten
