    Dad had a 4.2 Automatic , and in those days if you had a fast car you drove it fast.
    We had relations in Plymouth which is approx 220 miles from where we lived in Sutton Coldfield, only half the distance motorway (freeway)
    Starting at 5.00 one sunday morning we covered this distance , in 2. 3/4 hours , av speed door to door 80mph.
    Speedo was on 120 plus most of the way.
    When we arrived both fuel tanks were empty and 2 pints of oil were needed
    My brother and i at the age of 14 and 9 in the back thoroughly enjoyed this journey .
    This car was more than just a good looker , its a very capable machine with a truly great engine.

    Beautiful car. I myself had an identical specification , except in Ascot Fawn, in 1974 , l was 21 and paid the princely sum of £750.00p for it! I was a panelbeater at our local Jaguar dealer. Mine too was a very early car being registered in 1969 and l am pretty certain '69 was the first year of production. I guess this was for sale and someone is going to be a very lucky person. Thankyou. Forgot to add . You can see on the rear and side headcloth finishers black marks.These are soot marks. These are where the fixing clip holes are punched into the board to mount the trims. There are adjacent holes in the panelwork which are not sealed.The early cars had short ,straight exhaust chrome pipes. ( Didn't notice if yours had those. ) The lower fuel tank covers under the rear bumper were not sealed. The exhaust fumes were drawn into the lower tank covers , then into the fuel tank compartments and
    finally up through the rear pillars and into the cabin! The early cars were recalled,the tanks removed, and baffle plates were fitted at the base of the rear pillars to stop the fumes.
    As an added "cure" the exhaust trims were lengthened and "s" shaped to prevent the fumes being drawn in. Of course you may already know this!

    It's got the correct straight exhaust tail pipes. The reason people changed them to the bent ones was because of fumes getting into the car

      Body perforations for left or right hand drive.
      You see, unlike the U. S., we, in Europe, try to install the antenna as far as possible from the sidewalk goons.!!!
      As for the rear view mirror blanking plates, I guess somebody has previously installed different side view mirrors, after the new paint job.!!!

    Had a Ser 3 but the Ser1 is the one to have (or Ser 2 Coupe).
    Your exhaust tips should have a dogleg to the sides as original.
    That stipped the possibility of dumes re entering through the boot.

  • @adrinathegreat3095
    @adrinathegreat3095 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Not unusual to find mk1 xj6's being sold cheap 25 years ago for a matter of not being able to afford 4 new tyres, consider that back then they were old cars bought by people just because they liked the idea of luxury, and the cost of fuel, insurance and running costs meant you could pick them up for a few hundred Quid.
    Many of those eventually became uneconomical to run and repair " they weren't old enough to be collectable" so they ended up being scrapped.
    That's why they are rare and worth a bit of money nowadays, if people had kept them they'd be common and undesirable.
    Similar smooth ride and performance can be had with a BMW 320/520 petrol engine and youd get 30mpg on average.
    15mpg cars aren't used much apart from things like this or shows, so they aren't really being used as originally designed

    • @carscloseup
      @carscloseup  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Adrina The Great this goes for any classic car, nothing new here...Of course this car will not be used as intended, but it will be kept running and occasionally driven, because of nostalgic reasons, because of the style and grace that you’ll never get in a newer BMW...If you want modern comfort and economy, don’t look this way.....

    • @markemmins1929
      @markemmins1929 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Adrina The Great I use my 1969 XJ6 as my daily car, I don’t worry about the fuel economy as the pleasure of driving such a lovely car far out weighs the cost and I also would rather be driving an old fashion jaguar over a modern BMW any day of the week
