I am sooo grateful to Humboldt's cannabis culture!!! I came late to it starting in 2004, it paid for my home AND gave me my own 401 K plan, as my fulltime caregiving of people did not provide, it has seen me thru n kept me afloat thru sooo many losses too! Goddess Bless Humboldt forever, it truly is a promised land!

I grew up in Humboldt, graduated Arcata High school in 1989, it was the absolute best experience I can remember. The people, At least back then, the families were close, even the police department got to know up as kids and always chose to scare us rather than run us in. Drag Racing out at Samoa, beer out at Clam beach, hiking at Trinidad, surfing at Houda Point, fishing in every direction, there was so much to do. This documentary really brings it back, I also remember the ducking and running each year dodging the police or CAMP, it was also part of the awesome experience.

@@ffgith2831 shit man, do what I did...save up a couple thousand dollars and just go and find a cheap apartment or even rent a room out, there's all kinds of people lookin for roommates here in San Francisco. It only took me one week to get hired at a local dispensary. You just have to go everyday applying for jobs at every dispensary. After I lived here for 2 months, I met some really cool people and got hired on a farm. You can do it man! I moved here from Indiana. I'm glad I left 3 years ago because Indiana will probably be the last state to legalize cannabis.

Found a collection of hundreds of seeds my father in law brought from Cali in 86 to Oklahoma .. He cannot say what strains are in there most are labeled simply "Humboldt Tomato Seeds " said the he forgot he had kept them and said they are from grows from 84-86 .. Starting germination viability tests this week so here to learn about the growers and strains from the county.

In the 90s I started driving truck. Running from home here in the midwest to nor cal and then back to the midwest. I met this cool hippie/biker chick who lived outside of Gilroy California. All my older biker/trucker buddies were doing crank and I just smoked a ounce a week of whatever the best pot I could get. This hippie chick grew a nice garden and in-between her tomatoe plants she'd grow some really good homegrown. It was that super smelly stuff that had red hairs and white crystals.. we called it nugs here in the midwest cause they looked like little nuggets of green gold.. she charged me like 250 per ounce.. I would always drive the night shift and it was great.. I was 21 driving a brand new viper red long hood Peterbilt that was stretched out and pulled a brand new utility 48 foot spread axle reefer that was painted to match the truck.. had a few hundred lights on the truck and trailer and a 5k watt stereo system with 2 12s under the bottom bunk.. I'd have me a couple left handers rolled up for the evening. Turn on xm satellite radio and just roll across 15 up to 80 or just 80 depending on where we reloaded. I 2 manned it with this older Vietnam vet who smoked a tobacco pipe and loved speed.. when he was up to long and needed a nap I'd take his pipe and put a nice bud in it and cover it with a little bit of tobacco.. he'd cuss me but refused to waist it and would thank me after he'd slept like a baby for a day.. he passed away 2 months ago unfortunately.

I tell ya what I have been wanting to give my thanks , respects and take my hat off to those that did the work, showed the love and took cannabis from where it was back in 70s to the strains , varieties and the knowlege of where its grown in availability and SMH the potency. You prople are heros to me. I was gardening on the other coast..The first sinse bud I saw I grew. It was great but not even close to what Cali does. I know what it took to get what its become and its not right , what Ive heard has happened with the rich moving in to get richer.
Yall did a hellofa job and my respects, thanks and well wishes to ya.

Now we're in the period of mechanized greenhouse farming. Huge digitally controlled greenhouses that take dare of lighting, heat, cool, ph, watering - all done automatically are flooding the markets with "product," crashing prices. Growing outdoors, organically creates one crop a season making it very hard to compete with the mechanized farm growing 3 or 4 crops a year. To deal with the corporate farms, and the heavy taxation and regulations from the state, counties and towns, the organic farmers have banded together forming co-ops, breeding better genetics and some have returned to illegal grows. The future of cannabis will likely be close to the way wine grapes are grown and marketed. There will be the mechanized "product" akin to your cheaper wines qualities ranging from "Ugh! What is this stuff"" to good enough to enjoy, and the top quality, sun grown smaller batch, carefully tended connoisseur cannabis. Will the future be people learning to grow their own in their back yard or in a closet "grow tent?" Whatever the case, cannabis has been grown since the beginning of recorded history and beyond and will continue to ease aches and pains, calm the anxious and connect us to all life.

@kap1526 pan out. The history up here is one of extremes. Rural communities have always attracted the sort of folk that don't play well with others. 100 or more years ago, folks knew this area to be under the radar, so to speak. There was also the ruthless in business that came here and made a name. The nature of the isolation.

It was a nice story, I do believe these growers do what they believe in. And weed does help with many medicinal purposes. But they didn’t talk about the many people coming up missing because of it. Not all the pot growers are nice like the ones they showed on this documentary. It would be nice though if they could get rid of the violent side of it. And have the nice ones grow their crops like farmers that grow corn and other veggies.

Great documentary! That’s definitely how it is up there. I remember how everyone from Trinity, Humboldt and Mendocino all had heard about this long before Garrett’s body was found. By far the most obnoxious part of the documentary is Scott Johnson’s girlfriend trying to say that it wasn’t cool that the Alderpoint 8 did what they did. And that hyper speed freak chatter! Easy on the meth there honey! Jesus. Makes us all look bad. It’s supposed to be about pot not meth!

What I have never understood is growing up here in the UK we only ever got resins hash like morroccon and red leb and yellow Lebanese and Afghanistan black hash etc and the only herbal ones were African with all the seeds in which was nice but weak and then jamaican sensi and one of the best i ever had was lambs bread but anyway if you tried growing it you only got a weak type but then in the early 90s suddenly from Amsterdam we got skunk which was really strong and then everyone was growing under sodium lights but what i never understood was that this skunk type produced lots more on each plant and so much stronger so what i want to know is what happened what was the difference in the old ones with this new one and also what happened with all the old land race strains...
