    Yeah I instantly knew what it was when I saw the handle it's a u.s. Navy knife from World War II they were issued to the US Navy and the US Air Force during World War II as a utility knife a lot of them were modified after the war so you are very lucky to find one that hasn't been modified

    WOW !!
    Outstanding!!
    No interruptions ( turned on this video at 5 am and have watched and paused and watched again ).
    At first glance - 2 things came to me :
    1- Is this a relic from “ Titanic “???
    2- This looks just like the knife my father had in his toolbox .
    1970- 1972 , I used to play with his knife , that looked exactly like this !!
    I was like 5 or 6 .
    Even his knife and sheath were rusted and old looking .
    I thought it was more like a “ Daniel Boone “type knife all this time - but I swear that this is the one !
    ( I always wondered what ever happened to that old knife ).
    Would love to ask him but that’s not possible .
    So now I’m thinking:
    Was this Quints knife in WW2 ??? When he was on the USS Indianapolis????
    ( oh - these were the thoughts in my head )....
    And low and behold -- When you said “ I think it says U .... S ....... N .....” --
    Well I about fell off my bed !!
    Un- Freakin- Believe- Able !!!
    Think of the history !!
    How many lives did this save ??
    How many lives did this take ??
    Was it on a raft of Navy survivors after their ship sunk ??
    Did it cut up a shark ??
    Boy if this knife could talk !!!!
    I did a little research:
    Seems they were made in “ Camillus- NY “.
    I will take awesome care of this .
    What a treasure !!!
    Thank you so much for doing this !
    Made My Year !!!!

    I knew what it was as soon as you showed it. When you brought out the JB weld I was like...nooooooo...lol. But its all good. At least it will be getting used again and not just rusting away to nothing.

    • @DonnieBAllDay
      @DonnieBAllDay  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're good. Since they modeled it after the Rem hunters and actually used all their machinery and parts, I was sold on it being a hunting knife

    • @DonnieBAllDay
      @DonnieBAllDay  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The good thing about the JB is that it will get in all the cracks and prevent further damage. I knew I could sand off the top layer. The innards needed some love.

      @@DonnieBAllDay I'm a big fan of history. Especially military history. And being a knife and gun lover I knew what it was. But usually I see the aluminum butts on them or sometimes bakelite. So the wood pummel threw me off for a second. But the U.S.N. stood out to me right away. I have one of the newer Kabar Mark 1s. They are pretty nice knives. Always wanted an original though.

    • @DonnieBAllDay
      @DonnieBAllDay  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Took me a minute to realize it was USN instead of USA. I saw that the wooden pommels were the earlier runs, so the chances that this was made in the 30's went way up and that it saw action while the fighting was good, got way better. It also from what I'm reading may have been the issue for Navy pilots.

    I have been collecting bayonets and fighting knives for over 28 years. What it looks like is a pal 36. Are a cattarages. Hunter from the early 50s. It’s awesome that you’re trying to salvage history my brother. You never know. That thing could tell some awesome stories. I will shoot you some pics of a few new blades I am getting from budk. Got a good deal on the hibben 5051. And hibben 5019. And I just had to get the big foot Bowie. I also found a fighter knife and a fantasy blade and a skinner on eBay the other day and price was so good I had to jump on it. You stay safe my friend stay sharp.

    • @DonnieBAllDay
      @DonnieBAllDay  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's definitely the PAL RH 35. I was able to read the hilt. Plus having the rare wood pommel tells me that it was made in the 30s and most likely a Navy pilot issued blade

    You got my attention with a forty year old knife. I'm no knife expert. I'm not even an amateur knife restorer, but I would have put new leather stacks on it. They do come apart. If you are going to just keep it to use, jb weld works. But I have to admit, it made me cringe. I know it was in rough shape but I think you made it not resellable. I hope you don't take offense.

    • @DonnieBAllDay
      @DonnieBAllDay  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Never offended my brother. Did you watch the whole thing? The JB secures the grip and prevents further rot. Once sanded, there is no evidence of it. And if it was a 40yo hunter, sure, a new stack would be fine. But this is an early edition WWII USN fighting knife that was issued. The wooden pommel makes it a 1930s production. The leather is all original. No way that was coming off.

    • @Chrissvarietychannel549
      @Chrissvarietychannel549 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I watched the whole video. It looked better after sanding. I'm just partial about WWll artifacts since my father flew in that war. I was worried about the wooden pummel. There is nothing wrong with keeping it. You did get it to a condition that made it usable.
