  • Winner! Of a Telly broadcast award! Beloved Los Angeles & San Diego Radio Personality, Shotgun Tom Kelly, loves trains. His father was an Engineer for Santa Fe and actually ran 3 of the model engines you'll see in this video (the 2357 Switch Engine, the 3751 Steam Locomotive, and the Santa Fe War Bonnet passenger train). Shotgun has been honored for his work in broadcasting with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, plus 2 Emmy Awards for his work as a television host. He makes his home in San Diego, is heard weekdays on SiriusXM radio's "60's on 6," and is currently President of Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters. This wonderful HO layout comes down electrically from the ceiling and rests on Shotgun's pool table! Masterfully crafted by Lloyd & Betsy Kluesner of Lloyd's Layouts in Paramount, CA. Video by Jhani Kaye.

What a great video, Jhani - really brings an already fantastic layout to life! Met Shotgun at the Gavin Convention in the late 80s, back in my radio days. Wish I’d known about our shared love of trains back then - Love talking about trains even more than radio!

Amazing job Shotgun Tom! Can't imagine the work and love that went into this. You should be proud and a great way to honour your Dad! Thank you for bringing this up on your SiriusXM show. I listen all the time.

There’s a lot of things going on within your bustling community. Jhani’s video is amazing, too. Seeing Shotgun in the cab of 3751 was a nice touch! I like the green screen effects, movement in each scene, music editing, etc. The layout tells stories, has AM and FM radio towers, and TRAINS...what more could anyone want? Wonderful layout and video. I bet your dad would approve, Tom.

I also just heard you on Cousin Brucie's You are correct- it is a heck of a layout. I ha Lionel and MTH 'O' scale and have a recreation of the Silverton - Durango RR around the upper wall in my garage. Always wanted a Lionel as kid- got one when I was 69 years old. Will never be a nice as what you have- but I still love it. Just a kid!!!

Very fine layout that you have Tom.
I ran into you one Monday afternoon about a year ago at the trainstore in Bellflower.
Found it unusual you would be there, but then I see your layout builders are from Paramount.
    Again, great layout.
Glad you are back on the radio.
Side note, when I ran into you at the trainstore, I heard you talking to the help at the counter. I "knew that voice", I just couldnt believe it really was you.
SHOT GUN TOM KELLY! WOO WOOOO!
Great piece of history about your father as a ATSF engineer, of the glory days in RR.

Dave….Yes, the Train store in Bellflower is where I bought my Dad's Atlas 2357 switch engine. My Dad was a engineer on the Santa Fe for 45 years.

This is difficult to describe. It is most certainly one of the best demo HO layouts eve. Lots of scenery, lots of well running track, the operating road vehicles is very impressive and it just is a must see. However, it does not look very much like the world it is supposed to be representing. Everything is neatly done for sure but it looks more too much like a beautifully arranged and operating set of bright, plastic toys than a real railroad. There is no dirt, the raod bed is just too neat, too clean, too plastic like; look at any actual railroad trackage and it does not begin to look like this. Real trains do not operate like this. One would have a hard time trying to duplicate prototype railroad operations on this layout.
Beautiful and good operating model set that looks like a model set. Great to go and watch but then what? Do you go there once a week, once a month or just once? Those who model prototypical railroads and prototypical railroad operations and use several peope as part of those operations are what keeps them coming back as often as they can.
Again, as a display layout, like the Lionel Christmas layouts in department stores every year as the holidays apprached, it is fantastic.
