I went up a few times as a daytrip from London ! Originally, there was a 37 diagram from Preston to Barrow-in-Furness, that connected off a Pendo from Euston, and onto a second 37 diagram to Carlisle. This connection at Barrow-in-Furness was somewhat tight, as you had to run from Platform 1, down the subway, and up to Platform 3. Both original diagrams were originally top n tailed with a loco at each end, i.e. 4 locos on 2 trains. Then DRS started using Mark 2F DBSOs, and switched the diagrams to just the Barrow-in-Furness to Carlisle section. Lovely line with proper signals (mechanical semaphores) and lattice footbridges. Excellent view of a Barn Owl in flight at 24 mins 32 secs in the video. Railways make an excellent way to combine both hobbies. Thanks for posting.

retiring the 37s is insane, they are still workable and reliable

How the island of Sodor would look in real life with the 37s!

I sometimes wonder if steam had stayed in service longer, would they have painted all the smoke box doors yellow?

What a great loco series, wonderfully soothing sound! What became of the locos after they were decommissioned? Thanks for posting this tribute!

They have been used on Rail charters, Snowplow work and Network rail test trains. Railhead treatment trains.etc. Very rarely used on Nuclear moves now as they are nearly all Class 66 hauled

conditions for filming can be poor, especially around stations. A silly question, but how did you rate the 37s on this service and did many problems occur over the two years ? Very enjoyable film and very fitting tribute.

Yes. The driving coach is a DBSO converted many years ago from a Brake

I love a class 37, especially in big logo livery, but just look at that pollution. The really are dirty beasts.

yes but they work in the cold and with are not stopped by leafs on the line

@Melanie Rhianna Well, most of the pollution cannot be seen. If you look at more modern Class 66s they too are not very fuel efficient. A lot of the exhaust and polluting gases are invisible too so it is hard to say one locomotive is more pollutive than the other by simply looking at them. You have to look at the statistics. M

Will there still be Cumbrian class 68s?

Great filming. Am i right in thinking that this is a push pull train where on the reverse the loco pushes manless and the driver at the front coach operates the engine at the back without anyone in the loco ?

Yes, that's the system, driven/controlled by driver in the DBSO in reverse direction.
