I love how we meet Goku calling Bulma a witch/demon using magic and now we got him here displaying true magic touching his nose with his tongue true character development
"It's a whole film" okay but the reason I prefer shows over movies is because shows can take their time while movies very often tend to feel rushed due to the medium's constraints. I wish more films were 4 hours long or multi-part epics.
Literally, this is why dragonball was so good - just let the series take its time. It doesn't have to be this constantly high stakes complex narrative. I'm enjoying all the lore and slice of life moments in this show, couldn't care less if it's taking time
Fr this series is 25 episodes this complete and utter lack of patience in any regard is so annoying if it keeps up I'm not even gonna bother watching these reviews anymore
I don't think that's the same in the Broly movie tho, my main thing is that Goku transformed into Super Saiyan, THEN got the outline while Vegeta got the outline and THEN went Super Saiyan. I think Vegeta was just mid transformation, not necessarily anything special then. And while I'm not sure Goku is doing anything special here either, I don't think it's the same as in Broly.
Honestly the thing I like the most about Daima so far is the way the world is building, as fictional as it is, the way the characters interacting make it seem so real Something other stories try to build slowly and then establish while Daima immediately established the world as it is, no explanation needed and honestly I like the world being built this way and the visuals, the shapes, everything seems truly so magical It feels more like OG dragon ball than Z and I'm fine with this especially after getting super
Z was good cause it build upon base from DB. Literally Sayians > Goku tail plot Freeza > Namek and Sayians Cell > OG Red Ribbon saga. Only outlier who feels odd was Buu. And now we can build up Buu, retroactivly making his saga better. 3 episodes of world building is really not too much. Goku and Gohan were training longer for sayians, I mean, wtf..
@ Very true now the buu saga will be perceived very differently What I meant about world building is how vibes are felt in literally every episode, like this world has its own vibe already without much explanation and without much exposition, just this is it and this is how it is
Daima is slow pace, a slow burn, but is very wholesome to watch Both the animation and the plot of every episode (different from GT, is always going forward clearly + giving us some lore that builds this new place)
King Gidan(Gedan?) and Panzy seems like it's a jokey rehash of Ox King and Chi-Chi(Who was also a princess) where the punchline is that Goku(as a child) is already married and has kids vs not knowing what marriage is and thinking it's some kind of food. If you think back to Ox King being introduced he was introduced as this big threat in shadow as well, but is ultimately harmless. Everything about this episode felt like a call back to that moment in OG Dragon Ball, with updated context based on Goku's growth since then and honestly. I'm here for it. I enjoyed this episode much more than the previous one outside of the fight, which I think was better in the last episode. Especially given the context that Goku was fighting to help people in 4 vs casual "training"(let's be honest, this was nothing for Goku) in 5. On a side note I have an interesting question. Will Earth's Dragon Balls even work if Dende, as their current "guardian", isn't on the same plane of existence as they are? As an example, we know that if the Guardian dies the balls become inert, so that could be classified as being on a different plane of existence since we know how DB's afterlife logic works and that travel between those realms is possible for both living and dead beings(albeit with some rules and exceptions for the dead). Another side note. I hate the concept of the Super Dragon Balls and seriously hope we eventually get a better explanation about their origin here in the Demon Realm. I also think that the Demon Balls are likely made with Dark Magic as Light Magic was mentioned in Ep 1 as the source of Earth's Balls. The Tamagami may be a side effect of this different form of Magic, but we'll see. Vegeta's role is to give Goku someone that's at his power level to bounce of off. Piccolo's role is that he's a Namekian with all of Kame's memories and has ancestral roots in the Demon Realm. Any dragon ball related lore(The objects themselves) is likely going to involve Piccolo, Neba, and eventually Dende. I especially think this considering the focus that Toriyama-san, may he always be at peace, put on Piccolo specifically in Super Hero. I think he really wanted to build up the Namekian lore there and there's a good possibility that we could get more of it here.
I also think Panzy is a callback to the princess from Dragon Boy, being an inventor like Bulma and also a princess from a distant kingdom who is, in a way, escorted back by Goku and friends (even if she was just tagging along and could get back there on her own). And then there's the GT side of it, where if Glorio resembles Trunks, Panzy resembles Pan.
There's so much talk about lifespans in this, like it being collected from the populace and the Namekian being paid in lifespan, makes me wonder if this isn't just a big setup so our Z crew can get a lifespan boost. Like sure Goku is in his 60's or whatever, but thanks to magic now his life span can be doubled or whatever.
That makes me imagine what if like how Toriyama got Toyotaro as a disciple if that will continue and in like 2070 we'll have Uber dragon ball Prime Omega or something and Goku will be fighting dark angels in other multiverses or something. Which sounds super fanficy but 45++ years is A LOT for a human lifespan.
Dragon Ball as a whole is defined by its hooks, its cliffhangers, flipping things on its head once you thought you had everything figured out and Daima is certainly lacking in that aspect.
the theory I have for the recap in some episodes is that they are only putting it in odd numbered episodes: think about it, it was in episode 1, 3, and now 5, but not in any of the even numbered episodes
I was thinking it was just for fun. Like in Demon Slayer with Inosuke never saying Tanjiro's name correctly lol. Although I kind of like the idea of Goku already planning what their name will be for fusion
I don't mind the slow burner adventure of Daima at all. Daima is only going to get better and better seeing the production and writing of the show so far. There are examples of many beloved anime that start slow and we only get to spend time with characters and the world for the first few episodes but the story gets so crazy later on. I can see Daima going this route.
43:50 Vegeta had the exact same glow *before* going super sayian in the Broly movie, and that seemed to have given him a boost, but no one ever talked about that. Kinda funny how this time many reviews act like that's some crazy new thing
In regards to the pacing, I think something that contributes to the show feeling like its losing momentum is the extended absence of the main villains. Dragon Ball is a series defined by its villains (as evidenced by most of its arcs being named after them) so having them not only be completely absent but also keeping audiences in the dark about their overall plans and goals makes the story feel directionless.
@Sullytaan there's a reason why Toriyama realised that formula had to change, it didn't work then, and it doesn't work now, hence why the 21st tenkaichi Budokai and the Red Ribbon army arcs introduces the antagonists and their goals earlier.
Even Moro had many magical abilities and he has point ears. He's definitely a demon too. We even see Grand Kai use magic to lock up Moro's power. Toriyama defintely had this demon lore back in his mind from the early days.
Guys we saw vegeta do the same ssj glow in base form in the Broly super movie. It’s probably nothing more than them being right on that edge of bursting into it
The Gold aura around Goku after he went Super Saiyan is reminiscent of when Vegeta turned Super Saiyan in DBS: Broly. He had a golden glow, powering up before unleashing the transformation. It's not quite Base, not suite Super Saiyan, But just on the edge of both.
I think the point of him going Super Saiyan was to show us he could as well as a test of his powers and also just a move he used to get the guys who were holding him down off of him and the residual glow was just that the glow left over from transforming no way Goku could fight these guys in Super Saiyan without risking killing them
I guess this is something somewhat specific to me but the pacing actually has actually been pretty tolerable as I also have Dandadan and Bleach to be faster paced shows so Daima is almost my cool Down show. Plus I'm familiar with Dai and this anime does really feel like a Dragon Quest game which typically takes its time to cement regions and cultures extensively before ramping into the action/plot.
ill be honest, the pacing feel like og dragon ball, and i really dont like og dragon ball first arc, but for daima i definitely more invested because the animation alone and worldbuilding, but yeah daima need to get faster
I’m ok with the series taking it’s time. People forgot how many episodes Dragon Ball and Z took to cover a small amount of chapters. The Cell Games in the manga is short compared to it’s anime adaptation, but is still well regarded by fans.
It's very slow atm, even in OG DB we had more self contained stories like Oolong and the Ox King, whereas here we've had exposition and the odd small 'scene' rather than full side story like the shopkeeper or Goku vs thugs or demon police. Loving the world building and kid goku action so far but it needs more side stories or to move the main plot quicker.
I think while i personally don’t have the same problems they do that it’s alright to at least voice those issues. Im kinda treating Daima like a JRPG and things move slowly for a bit since were basically in the tutorial/starting world. I can understand people not loving the pace but still loving the content I think things will pick up after what seems to be a mini boss in ep6 or maybe even after the first real boss the 3rd Demon World Tamagami.
@@pkpyro2000 agreed, it just seems like they’re making neat picks seem a lot more negative than they are. The community has asked for more lore ever since the saiyan stuff in Broly and we finally get it and they make it seem like it’s a bad anime.

Why does Mark look so salty in all these lol. Seems annoyed to be doing these. His enthusiasm for dragon ball is the main selling point of his channel and he’s lifeless

idk why people are acting like Dragon Ball Super is canon lol. that's like if they bring up Shadow Dragons and one wonders "but what about GT!?" neither GT nor Super were written by Toriyama. they're just fun little side stories for us to enjoy.
Uh no. Super is absolutely canon. Wild you would say that here of all places when Mark has specifically explained Toriyamas direct involvement with Super TONS of times

I hope we will not have a Broly style frontload of story and then, competently animated, but story wise empty and boring fighting. I love Daima so far, would like it to keep this mild pace till the end. More story, less mindless action please.
Why does Mark look so salty in all these lol. Seems annoyed to be doing these. His enthusiasm for dragon ball is the main selling point of his channel and he’s lifeless
@@casf120 dudes making a good argument why not to watch these going forward with the saltiness
@ because I want to watch these going forward with joy and enthusiasm for Toriyama’s send off?
Loving Daima so far & super stocked to be watching the English Dub in theatres. Can't wait for Crunchyroll to be releasing those episodes.
It's not just the accent but when Ajay talks he has the exact same tone and mannerisms as MasikoX
omg i thought he was masikoX when i first heard him speak in this podcast!
4 days of waiting to reupload a livestream to a different channel ffs. why???
Because he wants to
You can listen to it now and have much less day to wait for next episode ;)
they are working on many weekly projects
the time that it takes to grab the Livestream, cut the awkward pauses and make it a polished podcast isn't something you do on the fly, they want to deliver good quality, as they always do
just enjoy the wait, it's a good cut-the-week video while we wait for next Friday
and be respectful
Listen to it live then
@@svenotta oh they cut akward silences?? oh man that makes the 4 day wait so worth it!
Maybe... no don't. First.
Ajay sounds very similar to MasakoX
They both have an accent
They don't sound alike otherwise
@Hi_Just_Fred they don't both have an accent? Mark and Tyson have accents.
I'm definitely not a fan of the 82 year old who looks like a child thing.
Please play Spiderman Remastered for the third episode of your gaming series
idk why people are acting like Dragon Ball Super is canon lol. that's like if they bring up Shadow Dragons and one wonders "but what about GT!?"
neither GT nor Super were written by Toriyama. they're just fun little side stories for us to enjoy.
My man, Toriyama not only startes with Battle of Gods, but wrote Super's manga.
Uh no. Super is absolutely canon. Wild you would say that here of all places when Mark has specifically explained Toriyamas direct involvement with Super TONS of times
@@ShirlyaneGomes Toriyama did NOT write super's manga lmaooo, toyotaro did
@@Foxbopper if you'd actually watched mark's videos on Super's canonicty, you'd know that after Fukkatsu No F and before Broly, all he did was give vauge ideas to both Toyotaro and Toei to interpret lol
I'm gonna put a moratorium on this line of thought right now. Nothing is canon. None of it. Not even Z or OG Dragon Ball.
Actually...no. Dr. Slump is the only canon entry in the Dragon Ball franchise.
5 episodes in and the pacing is already having some fans getting bored. Definitely lowering expectations for the future.
I'm lowering the expectations for the fanbase to have patience
@@mene6010 It’s a fair critique. Even Mark, Tyson and Ajay acknowledged the need for a proper hook, which we didn’t get yet.
Daima is set to have 20 episodes this season and we’re done with 25% of it already.
@@Volfyrion There's still the potential of having more episodes down the line since Toei didn't confirmed a final episode count yet.
@@marshallseldon4200 I really hope that’s the case. On the other hand, if this is just a 20 episode story, it would make Toei free to focus on producing Moro and Granolah arcs in Super.
It's been 5 episodes and the show has done jack shit. No tension, no danger, just exposition and lore dumps with a meaningless fight thrown at the end of each episode. Even Mark and Ajay agree@@mene6010
I personally don’t like the fact they made Panzy like that, just gonna green light pedos and creeps to draw and goon to art of her
Or the joke of them marrying, no reason to have that seemed weird to me
I feel like its the fault of the people doing it instead of the character designers.
The writers don't know how the fans are gonna react to them. Blame the weirdos, not them
I mean, they were going to do that anyway. Numbers have never meant anything to those people.
@@SeniorNano To be fair, Goku firing back with the fact that he was already married and had two kids was very funny.
I really want to like this series, but I just can’t shake the feeling of being…bored. There isn’t a more elegant way to describe it, I’m just fucking bored. This show has just done absolutely nothing to rope me in with any level of drama or real intrigue. I feel like I just watched the same episode three times in a row with this last batch of episodes. Desperately hoping things pick up next week and the plot actually…starts.
You remind me of Ian Watkins, no ofense.
