The second season is as good as the first. I don't get this hate for it. Also is closer to James Ellroy who I love, and I guess Pizzolatto is a fan aswell. And the good vs evil thing lays on the characters more than the esoteric or schools of philosophers (thank God). Great analysis.
That's a good comparison actually, I remember being disappointed with the bloated pacing even though it was only 9 episodes. They tried to do too much at once, from the look of it. Season 3 is pretty underrated, I think.
In some ways, I have very mixed feelings about true Detective. I think it’s a very different show than what I was expecting. I think the nihilism explored in it caught me off guard as well as the horror aspects. (That being said, the horror parts are arguably some of the best) I really should rewatch it soon.
Indeed, I think what makes True Detective's first season so interesting is that it takes Ligotti's pessimism seriously and asks 'what would a person be like who believes in such a thing?' The answer would be Rust or someone like Rust. I also agree with Pizzolatto that Ligotti's style lends itself very nicely to the noir genre. We need more cosmic horror/noir blends.
This was such a great show when it came out! Great analysis my dude
Thanks man! Glad you liked the video!
