I'd like to think if I saw dr. Jim Gates hiking on a mountain my eyes would go wide to but not because of the color of the skin. He is one of my heroes. I have followed his work for years and like many other great physicist, he is a man who should be celebrated.
If we are living in a simulated universe perhaps created by our future ancestors, his discovery could be the start of string theorists actually inventing the world in which we live in. Does that make any sense?!

Two aliens roaming the galaxy in search for intelligent life - passing by Earth after 2014 years again. Alien1: "Hey! Looks like humans are final intelligent!" Alien2: "No, they are not." Alien1: "But look - they have advanced combat satellites now!" Alien2: "Yes but they targeting themselves." It's a shame - the current mindset of mankind can be explained in 5 rows of text. Why because to think humanity as a collective is self destructive is absurd. Its more than safe to say the majority of the world is not looking to war with each other, live off others suffering, resources, or be human resources themselves. Yes many are automatons not thinking clearly (those that contribute to the production of these destructive devices) and are being herded, because most are just trying to survive in the pawn game. But, I'd bet my physical body that if the game/code was never created we as a collective would not be in this self destructive sheeplism conundrum.

That one is your Father." - Just a thought, 2000 years ago no one could understand if Jesus said: "We are living in a quantum computer simulation - in a video game. At the end there'll be a final boss, a destroyer you can choose." ^^ The God question becomes more and more relevant, especially now that we are becoming gods ourselves (see *Richard Seed*, *Technological Singularity*). At some point we'll create, design life (by DNA design and simulated) but what will people like *Richard Seed* do if his creations become Gods too - would he allow competition? We'll know soon - and I'm sure most will be surprised.

Could a sentient simulation ever hope to completely understand the nature of the machine, the code, and even the programmer? The story of Tron is a good example of this line of thinking. Some of those rendered beings might vainly argue the certainty of their supposed knowledge that there is no programmer. It is impossible to prove that the code wrote itself, and requires a leap of faith in another direction.
This man fascinates me, one of the most academically courageous men I know of.
