  • Many students of mine make mistakes connected with word order in different kinds of questions. So I've decided to make a video about two most confusing types of questions - subject and object questions.

Thank you for teaching us! Please enlighten me.
    Given the following question:
Who do you think you are?
    1) Is it asking for the object?
    2) What is the base sentence we are going to ask about by that question?
    Is it:
2.1) Do you think you are Bruce Lee?
2.2) You think you are Bruce Lee!
    Thx in advance.

Hi Antonia, I love to watch your lessons.
I have a question on this topic. Are both of the following sentences correct?
    1. What time is it now?
    2. What is the time now?
Can we use both? Are there any difference ? Is question 1 object question and question 2 subject question?
When I turn these 2 questions to indirect questions:
1a. Can you tell me what time it is now?
2a. Can you tell me what the time is now?
    Are they both correct ?

      I will do
1&2 are correct and have the same meaning
      Yes,you can use both.
      No,there aren't any difference.
1&2 are called subject complement question sentence because the answers to those questions are in subject complement due to coming after verb to be considered linking verb that doesn't need object but subject complement.
However, you can also consider being subject question sentence since having word "subject"in subject complement
1a&2a are absolutely perfectly correct as noun clause acting as direct object to verb tell.
      Got it ! every one?

e.g, Who has read this book?

2 What has scanned the book.
    3. What will have given in your hand .

In the sentence of Sarah you are using auxiliary verb in both type of questions What has Sarah read? has is present here and who has read this book? Here also has is present but in pattern you have written that Question word+ main very + object. So why has is used in second question

    • @AntoniaRomaker
      @AntoniaRomaker  2 ปีที่แล้ว

In Subject questions there can be auxiliry verbs too, they just do not go before the subject. So the structure should be the following:
Question word (who/what) + Predicate (the verb in the correct form with auxiliary verbs if the tense demands them) + Object

  • @trebaomijenalog7868

    What about questions like
    1. What time does she get up?
    2. What sports does Lisa play?
Words 'time' and 'sports' are before auxilary verb.
Can you explain that to me?

    • @AntoniaRomaker

Ma'am Can who and whom be used interchangeably ?...it seems that "whom do I love?" is grammatically correct but it seems again "who do I love" is much more used in spoken English ...so, teacher what is your point of view about " who" and " whom" because whenever I ask such a question e.g whom do you love? People repeat it by saying " who do I love " so it sounds as if they always try to correct me for having asked so

Hii, I have a question, for example, this sentence:
    "what music does she like"
The order is different, ths is a subject question?

    • @JoaoFernandoCDutra
      @JoaoFernandoCDutra 4 ปีที่แล้ว

That is a tricky question, but if you look the context of the sentence, this is NOT a subject question, because it's not asking WHO likes music, but the kind of (what). The subject question would be "who likes music?" "She likes music". Based on the answer, you can compare if it's a subject or object question. So, the real form is "What KIND OF music does she like?" We are asking about her preferences. I think this isn't a subject or object question.
