Invisible Fence Fail

  • The invisible Petsafe dog fence sounded like a dream but so far it’s kind of been a nightmare. After all the money and time we have spent and all the training, our dogs STILL cross the fence. I’ve even gone to the larger Stubborn dog collar for the two that do it the most, and it still isn’t enough shock.
I’m sure this system works for a lot of people, but this video is about my frustrations with it, because it’s important to know what you are getting into if you are considering an invisible fence!

If you’re going to Cancun, you are no farmer. You should get help from pros. Make sure the fence is installed correctly. Make sure your training is correct. Clip your dog’s neck hair. Maybe a dab of Vaseline . I’ve used Invisible Fence for for all sorts of mutts for over 25 years with deer, foxes, the neighbor’s sheep tempting them with 100 percent success. I’ve also used above ground, electric fence with horses with success. Training is essential. If you want to go to the beach, don’t have animals or livestock. It’s 24/7/365.

Every other day I check to see if they are charged. When I first started using them, I used the ones that would loose signal to my in door transmitter. I tried the underground ones and the wires would would fray apart and it stopped working. Haven't had problems with the ones that hook up satellites

It's because Invisible Fence is a subpar product when compared to Dog Guard Fencing. They use the best transmitters on the market. They are dual zone transmitters with many levels of adjustment.

Really?! Wow good to know… maybe we will give Dog Guard Fencing a shot if we want to try another product. Thanks for the suggestion!

I just stumbled upon this post as a frustrated invisible fence owner. My dog just recently started ignoring the shocks. What advice do you have? Is there an upgrade?

I had this problem too with snow. I think it shields the signal. I would basically walk around and dig out where the wire was buried. Probably not practical with 2 plus acres, sorry.

Well unfortunately the dogs are definitely getting shocked… but just super stubborn. I’ve seen them pause by the border, muster up some courage, and get a running start, hop through it as fast as they can, do a little jolt mid-air, and take off. 😂 No joke.

@@littlehouseinthesnowys9522 Oh boy.. We had a beagle that basically would do that too. Maybe kick up the jolt? Sorry, hope it works out.

One final note. You admit you know nothing about horses. You need to learn before buying. Horses are 1,000 pound plus animals with a strong flight reaction. You can get hurt if you don’t know what you are doing and follow safety rules. Read read read. Veterinary bills are also EXPENSIVE if you harm your horse through ignorance. Horses are EXPENSIVE period. Find a local instructor trainer. Take some lessons. Se if you enjoy horses. Get professional advice before buying. Buy only older experienced horses. Maybe you need to trade your Carhartts for some…whatever you wore in Cancun.

I use the invisible fence that connects to satellites on my presa caniero and alabai.

I feel your frustration. My dog runs through it as well when there’s something to run to. If she’s just wandering around with no need to cross she doesn’t cross. What did you end up doing with yours?

    • @littlehouseinthesnowys9522
      @littlehouseinthesnowys9522  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Sadly we still have the invisible fence but no longer let the dogs outside to wander. 😒 Not worth the risk at this point…

did you have electric company come and spray where lines are? if to close will cross off signal, did you make sure turns are at least a 3 ft diameter? did you check for cracked or broken line ? there are allot of reasons why its not working but i see this video is a year old hope the issue has corrected it self if not i am a dog trainer and can help

Thanks for the suggestions! Unfortunately they were crossing in multiple spots and I checked to make sure it was still shocking them in those spots and it was. I even got them different collars for extra resilient dogs and they still crossed. One of my dogs doesn’t, she’s pretty good. The other 2 are just stubborn! So unfortunately it wasn’t that there were gaps in the line. I would even see them run through, see them get shocked and react to it a little, and keep running. 🤷‍♀️

Have you guys tried wireless fence. Also are the collars tight enough

Are you talking about a device that lets out a signal within a certain radius? We have not tied that yet. Yes the collars are very tight! Just stubborn dogs ;)

they look like chow chows try cliping the around there neck so you can get collar up against there neck just not making contack.

This video makes me mad lol. Stop using shocking devices to keep your pets within boundaries, and just extensively train, and use physical barriers instead. Just complaint after complaint in this vid. Plan things out and do more research. If you did you would know that shocking devices for any pet or livestock you have is extremely abusive, unethical, and flawed. If it was me I’d spend my money on build extremely tall and sturdy metal fences, that encompasses the entire area of your property, or where any of your animals would roam from chickens, dogs, horses, and any other animals you may have. Or just create a large fenced out section specifically for the animals, and maybe you could make a large green house style structure for your chickens, and something like that for your horses that would act as a stable and keeps them warm in comfortable. The skies the limit, but please stop using shock collars, it’s dumb. Imagine if your parents did that to you as a child when you went outside to play, instead of just disciplining you in a non abusive way, and being stern on were you can go.

Wrong. Unethical is allowing the dogs or whatever to get hurt or kill your neighbor’s sheep. I’ve used Invisible Fence for over 25 years. Happy dogs. Peace of mind. Correct training. Properly maintained equipment. I have 12 acres fenced. BTW dogs go over under chain link fencing. Horses jump four foot fences. Cattle will go through just about anything.
