- It's finally time for Adam to rebuild his workshop's electronics tool cart--a project he's put off all year. But starting with his soldering station he built earlier this year, Adam reassembles the cart to carry only the essential electronics gear and materials he knows he'll use most in his projects. It's tool reorganization as both therapy and a step toward efficiency--and highly satisfying on both counts!

When it comes to shop organization I always seem to fall into a trap of favorite tool bias vs most used tools. All to often I have a tool I really like that ends up being put front and center even though it's a tool that rarely gets used.

its a shame youtube doesnt provide image support id suggest more alien spaceship airlock looking wall panels just bang out about 20 frames of random sci fi walkway 20x 40 scene panels everywhere they might be just grey with strikes of green or red just to inspire extra madness like notepads that ye just pickup and respray if you sold those holy crap anywho ye need something of rick and mortys possibly a ship wreck desk oh and some beat up space junk chairs a shop can never have enough units to hold temporary delicate junk and artifacts
I know its been reiterated multiple times in the comments of other videos but I love this '1 man band' type filming. Moving the camera around himself, making adjustments, saying "ah you can't see that" then moving the camera. It all feels so much more personal, like we are hanging out in the shop for little projects with Adam. I dig it.
I was about to make the same comment. Even when things return to 'normal' I would love to see this type of video occasionally!
Agreed! I firmly believe that content like this, along with my other favorite TH-camrs, is the "reality TV" we were promised some 40 years ago. The first stab at it (Survivor, Big Brother, etc.) missed the point... very little "real" in these shows. Watching real people doing their "thing" is so much more interesting. Adam's enthusiasm is fantastic and infectious, in the best way.

Been moving toward that in my own shop...
I'm waiting for the complete shop rebuild using a garment conveyor he got on e-bay to hang everything from the ceiling and rotate what he needs around to the workbench on demand :-).
I was just wondering if the electronics cart was an airline service trolley.
@@ReverendTed it's either a airplane service cart or a hospital cart they use I'm saying it's from a hospital by the drawers
I really prefer this way of the one day builds. Rather than Adam talking with one of the tested guys at the beginning. And all the professional cameras and stuff.
I really like the homemade aspect of these videos now. Please keep them like this!
Up to this point, even with as many of these as I've watched, I had never noted the irony of a drawer with the label "LABELERS" written in silver Sharpie.
Joey seems to be having a lot of fun adding creative touches to his edits. I like it and has half expecting the Psycho stabby sounds at one point.

Not just I made X and here are the steps to make it. but the insight in how and why you are doing the things and what your thought process is that gets you to the point of finished thing. It pained me when I saw he was gonna shelve the 87 and keep the 115 on the cart, I was so happy to see the 87 on the cart at the end. Not that you really need more than 1 DMM, unless you don’t trust it, in which case get it serviced because a Fluke 87 will last more than a lifetime if you treat it right.

He should have a garage sale. Why in the hell do you need 4 fluke multimeters? I mean no disrespect to Adam, he is a childhood hero of mine, but sometimes I get the impression he's a bit of a hoarder.
I remember the drill press video he did specifically where he replaced the broken chuck on his drill press and could not bring himself to throw it away, and instead, put it on a shelf in the shop.
I get that Adam use to do metal sculptures, and that sort of thing is useful for art as its a beautiful piece of machining, but when you've got literal walls and ceilings and aloft and every nook in cranny contain 5x copies of the same thing, and you haven't made a metal sculpture in awhile, maybe its best to let it go.
In the case of the multimeter, Adam talked about going to a swap and finding a fluke multimeter for like $100 and it being way above the caliber he could afford normally while getting into the hobby. Let some of those go to people who would cherish them the same way, Adam.
@@honkhonk165 You may have a point but considering that he has worked for ILM and it could be that many of these tools could be associated with building something ex: Millennium Falcon, I also would be extremely hesitant to get of anything there.

@@ABCoLD-AOI I dont see him like that, rare and valuable give it to the "appropriate" venue but sell no not because he's fabulously rich but I think that's his nature and if he found out about a struggling "builder" I can see him rallying the troops to him that person out.

I just spent 20 mins watching Adam tidy up a mess and tbh I'm not really sure what else I was expecting.
He put the biggest fluke multi meter off to the side and said I dont need this one on the cart... and then half hour later its back on top of the cart with its very own spot.. Ha.. I do that too.. Too funny!.. Great content... love this!
As an australian, i can comfirm, "that cart is a dog's breakfast mate." However we would use at least 2 F bombs, and 1 "bloody"

Patterns of life in a shop are no different than any other place: even when you think you know how you'll use your tools in a work space, your patterns of behavior prove you wrong. It's like putting up a building with a parking lot and sidewalks and landscaping, and a year later there are well-worn paths across the grass where people are regularly walking. Time to relocate the sidewalks!
Watching you with the different charger leads, and in the end I hung them on the inside of the cabinet door, so all I had to do was open the door not then pull the drawer out then have to rummage through the multitude of lead's.
I like that you started the table saw and then walked away to answer the door 😂😂
These video edits keep getting better each time. You guys are a well oiled machine. Also love the shop infrastructure stuff.
I bought a really good soldering base station and heat gun after wanting one for so long and not being able to afford one. You know what I use the most to solder with now? Butane gas soldering iron. Because it works where ever I am. I’ve used the base station maybe 3 times a year when I can sit down at my desk and utilise it. I’m going to buy one of the ones like you have on your station and a Ryobi USB converter very soon and it will likely be the death blow to my soldering station.

Adam, those are called buck converters. They're basically full bridge rectifiers, they don't actually have transformers inside. The technology kinda moved away from transformers because they generate too much noise and produce unstable current.

i need to do more of this for my electronics setup. Part of it is neat and modular... but the rest is in cigar boxes in a deep ass drawer lol. you always need something at the bottom and have to essentially empty the whole thing out to get it fml lol

note to Adam: i think you're filming in 720 with your phone. You have to change it in settings to 4K & when sending to youtube they convert it to 1080 & the 1080 quality will then be MUCH better then the muddy video we have now.

Personally I’d of went with a French cleat on the side of the cart for the soldering station. Would have freed up that whole post soldering area

That looks like it started life an airline drink cart.
@@njbrad007 that appears to be exactly what it is, I suspect given a place that they loved on Mythbusters he probably got it from that aviation supply place they went to on the show as they seemed to have lots of parts pulled from scrapped or retired aircraft.
I was excited at the repurpose of the airline cart and went off to look for one. HolyMoley those are not cheap.
Also what torch is that vertical chrome one?
Maybe add magnets to your torch holder to secure it?

What is the actual cabinet you used to make that originally? That looks like it would be a super useful thing for a modular garage set up
In Scotland we call it a dugs dinner
For the torch location at 9:00, you could have made it sit on a slightly angled wedge of wood, so it tilts the torch backward slightly. Would make it a lot harder to fall out of the hole when moving the cart.
Where did you source the aircraft service cart? That is a super handy starting point.

That torch at 9:00, is it made of magnetic metall? What about a small magnet at the bottom of that holder to add some extra security when moving the cart around. BTW, Happy New Year ;-)

I feel like everytime you reach for a multi-meter you're gonna knock over the torch.
Its in there pretty sturdy.. thats why he built it to the exact size of the base so theres not a lot of room for it to move
@@gloriouslyimperfect Yeah but what bothers me about that is, that the holder for the torch is directional. you have to put the torch in one specific way and that would drive crazy.
@@EtwasMartin Yeah he should have just used a hole saw to cut a large hole in a piece of plywood. Screw that piece to the cart then the torch just gets dropped in. The bottom of the torch has a lip so it won't fall through.
I was thinking the same torch death per multimeter cords 😆
I'm more curious as to how long it'll be before he burns himself on the freshly put away torch while reaching for something else... This is Adam after all
