the 2 reason why as they don't like those days is because at the time it was a lil bit over sexulized and they were also very young DAMI was 17 years old ...

Even though Minx bring traumatic flashbacks to Dreamcatcher, "Why did you come to my home?" is a bop and "love shake" is super catchy XD

There are a few videos of Minx busking and their vocals are just beautiful. Love Shake is a great song and a vibe tbh. There's a video from Odd Eye era where Dreamcatcher is doing variety content and doing a random dance segment. Love Shake came on and Dami & Siyeon yeeted themselves outta there immediately while JiU stood there torn between wanting to dance and supporting the members and SuA & Yoohyeon just looked very cutely indignant. Gahyeon and Handong actually ended up doing the choreo to Love Shake and it's just hilarious that they even know it.

      Yeah, this video ( th-cam.com/video/saN08kPm9Qs/w-d-xo.html )!
I watch it time to time, when Dami face the wall, I always burst in laugh... xD
(and Gahyeon is cute as always. :3)
And in the same series ( th-cam.com/video/nawgLxGnGYY/w-d-xo.html ), Dami explains that she had to change her voice tone in Minx, and it's, in part, why she can't anymore with Minx.

    "MINX" is a legend.
When MINX made a comeback with "Love Shake", many popular girl groups made a comeback.
    9 Muses, EXID, Girls' Generation,
    Sistar, Girl's Day.
    Their agency was also incredible.
One of the three entertainment giants,
    "SM Entertainment",
(BoA, H.O.T., S.E.S., TVXQ, TSZY The Grace, SUPER JUNIOR, SHINee, Red Velet, NCT, AESPA)
    "Starship Entertainment"
(Monsta X, CRAVITY and WJSN), and
    "Star Empire"
    (Jewelry and the ZE:A).
Among them, SISTAR's "SHAKE IT" is a really famous song. That's why Minx was quickly forgotten.
However, Dreamcatcher is currently on a roll with a genre that is hard to see in K-pop.
If you're curious, listen to it.
    SISTAR "SHAKE IT"
    Girl's Day "Ring My Bell"
    Girls' Generation "PARTY"
    9 MUSES "Hurt Locker"
    EXID "HOT PINK"

I would definitely check out the WDYCTMH music show stages because Siyeon hits that note every time! They have two performance versions for the music shows, with or without the skateboards. I would suggest checking both versions out! ^_^

It's certainly a culture shock, isn't it? These videos just go to prove that their talent was never in doubt; they just got drowned out by all the other similar girl groups releasing at the same times as them.
Love Shake isn't actually a Minx-original song; it's a cover of a B-side from their sister group Dal*Shabet, which is why it's more overtly cute; most of Minx's other songs (not that there were that many), like Superstar Superman and Shut Up, had a _tiny_ bit more of an edge to them. They're often referred to as "cute" concept, which, compared to DC, sure, but personally, I feel like there's a bit of girl crush in there too (like I have a clue 😜). The big exception is the gorgeous ballad "Like You", which I still say would stand up as a DC B-side now if they wanted to re-do it.
Minx _was_ a rough time for them (particularly the whole "not succeeding" part), and some Somnies will get extremely protective and suggest pretty much not mentioning them at all; indeed, for a recent fancall event, there _was_ an embargo on Minx questions. But at the same time, the girls do frequently bring Minx up of their own volition, be it JiU and SuA dancing Love Shake on the Millenasia set, JiU and Siyeon having a Minx listening party and singalong on Vlive, or Dongie trolling SuA or Yoohyeon. Last I knew, JiU even had a Minx-sunbaenims poster on her and Siyeon's bedroom wall! I think the rule-of-thumb we've established is don't bring Minx up to the girls, just enjoy when they do it themselves. 😉

Reminiscing. Remembering and seeing how their journey began. Love Siyeon's vocal with that high note then showing her lower register.
Also see that the pillow fight in WDYCTMH continued on at the end of Chase Me.
Have loved your reactions over the years to these talented girls, now ladies.
May Goodness, Beauty and Happiness always follow and surround you.

And back in this era, Dami was the maknae! Fortunately she was saved from this cute position.
Personally, I really enjoyed WDYCTMH especially their live perf with the skateboards (was so stressed about their safety but also saw so many Siyeon cute moments): th-cam.com/video/E8xqXtaAYzc/w-d-xo.html
Live Siyeon's vocals were already impressive especially for a rookie group back in the days (I also like "Like You").
And as mentioned by mera in her video, MINX was kind of a baby Sistar which was a girl group famous for their summer bops (wasn't really into these summer sexy/cute songs, I prefer their other songs) and also had many booty shots. T^T Siyeon also had powerful vocals skills like Hyolyn (Siyeon is a fan btw).
Fortunately for the members and us, we have Dreamcatcher now.
Thanks for checking these MVs. They are still a must watch to appreciate even more their history.

Both songs are great. Yes, your correct as the live Minx videos on YT prove. The upset mainly was the wait inbetween Minx and DC especially for Siyeon as there was quite a long wait and it was a distressing time for here. One of the main tracks has a mini album and there are other tracks on this too.

for me Minx never ended. they were capable of many concepts including the dreamcatcher concept. when you watch their covers you are watching Minx. Lucky Strike, Really Really, What makes you Beautiful, all Minx. I'm really glad they were not stuck with the flirt concept forever. They can do so much more.

Even though it was traumatic dark history for 5 of them because Minx's cutesy bubblegum pop concept simply didn't stand out from the strong competition, their talents and skills for vocal and dance synchronisation were already at a high level. And yes, there are live performances for these songs

Aside from how difficult Minx sounds to DC, what really blows my mind what’s how young they were- Jiu and SuA were 20, Siyeon was 19 and 2yoo were 17... probably why is did not appreciate the butt shots and skimpy clothes.. These two songs are not bad, it was just to in line with what most female KPop groups were doing at the time and got outshined by groups that did better even though the girls were still talented as Minx. JiU really has not changed much. Their vocals have improved so much when you listen to a MINX song and a DC song.

The director of the Love Shake mv certainly took advantage of the fact that everyone in the group was an adult by that time. Lot's of booty and hip-shaking shots. More than WDYCTMH. No wonder Siyeon never wears short skirts or shorts anymore.

    Thanks for the Minx/Dreamcatcher reaction.
Not a big fan of Love Shake, but I actually really like Why did you come to my home. So just the opposite of you ..lol.
Jiu, Sua, and Yoohyeon, don't mind talking about Minx days, but Siyeon and Dami definitely don't like talking about it. But, yes, too overly sexualized. (Just my 'old fashion' opinion, but anything that's to, straight, gay, or overly sexualized, makes me a bit uncomfortable.)
Edit: Also, thanks for the Dreamcatcher content on Patreon. Have been watching it, just can't comment, since I haven't signed up yet. ;)

Thank you for the reaction! In all honesty, even for me as a guy, I find some of the shots in love shake to be uncomfortable watching it. Especially considering at the age they were at at the time, but yeah I know it's a very common occurrence in the kpop girl group back then as you also said.
Also.. Don't you think Jiu looks the same back then till now? I swear she must be a vampire...

  • @808nemesis6

Dang, I'm the opposite. Love Shake is just a tad bit too cringy to listen to for me (still a good song tho), but WDYCTMH is really good imo. Even then, I don't listen to WDYCTMH that much, only when it comes up on random play... if you can, check out the Love Shake mini album b-sides. I Just Like You is probably still one of my favorite ballads of all time. Shut Up is a good song too, and has a nice edge to it, but the instrumental is a little outdated for me.

NGL, I'd probably be down to listen to these songs but purely on audio. Kinda cringe watching the MVs. But I'm actually impressed to hear Siyeon's low tone. Most bubble pop groups hardly ever utilize the low tones of the members.

  • @spiralwarrior6569
    @spiralwarrior6569 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah, for me, it is definitely a good thing that Minx didn't work out. I would have never been a fan, the music is just too poppy for a metalhead like me. On the other hand, I feel for the girls. There was a year between these songs, and Why did you come to my home didn't even get a mini album. Additionally, Love Shake was a b-side of Dal Shabet before, Happyface's girl group before Dreamcatcher. You can feel their desperation, at least I think so. Then the uncomfortable shots, I agree with you there. I'm a dude, but even I am uncomfortable with some of the shots, thinking how young they were at that time.
It all had a happy ending though. Siyeon had a difficult time after Minx failed, she couldn't even watch music shows without crying. I believe she wasn't crying for Minx, but for her dream which was crushed. I can never thank Happyface enough for coming up with the idea of Dreamcatcher, which fits the girls so much better. And finally they are getting at least part of the success they deserve for all their hard work!
