A long long time ago I made 2 dolls for my best friend the only material I could get them was ordinary cotton. The eyes and mouth had to be sewn one and as I didn't have a machine I did the lot by hand. I made one with pink cotton and another with brown cotton material. My friend still has them both 50 years later and loves them. My only sadness is that I lost the pattern during my many moves
How nice they have a valuable friend like you, I love keeping handmade dolls too, we can lose a lot of valuable things for us during the move, it happened to me a lot too :)
