    BEST EXPLANATION ON YOU TUBE......Thank you for the BOX on the floor.. This lets a beginner see the pattern clearly and the direction the body faces on each step...

    Knowing what set of steps are needed for one 'move' is hard to detect in other videos.
    I think this is one of the best explanations online! Thanks!

    Is it correct to say that when we dance three steps 1-2-3 (for natural or reverse turn), we would turn 90 degrees?

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for important question. In Natural Box we turn 90 degrees to right. In Natural Turn we turn 135 degrees to right.

    Hi I was just wondering which leg the man and woman both start on because on other videos and other websites they say to use the opposite leg. I'm very confused.

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Serenity244 Thanks for Your question. In any tutorial Natural Box Man starts with Right Foot forward, and Reverse Box Man starts with Left Foot forward.
      Difference may be with which Box (Natural or Reverse) each Tutorial starts with. Hope it helps. Egils

  • @YokoshimaOfficial

    Why does it say man starts with left foot everywjere but this proffissional teacher say right?? I am sooo confused.

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Man starts with Right Foot forward when dances Natural Turn (turn to Right). Man starts with Left Foot forward when does Reverse Turn (turn to Left). Usually is more easy to learn Natural Turn, therefore I prefer start that way. Hope it helps.

    Hi, for the box step does one start exactly the way in the video? Won’t that be parallel to line of dance? I thought we usually start diagonal to the line of dance and so the box basically looks like a diamond.

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Simrin for question. Box steps are exercises for figures we dance around floor. For simplicity we do square parallel to walls. In Natural and Reverse turns we have forward movement in diagonal directions, but for backward movement in line of dance. I think therefore your version of diamond is valuable exercise.

      Egils Smagris oh I see! No wonder none of your video routine start with a box step! So should i use this just as a practise for my students? Or can I still use this as part of a beginner routine? As beginner students get very confused when steps start to turn :)

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I suggest when you know Natural and Reverse Turns then you don’t dance Box step in your routine.

  • @Hope8451
    @Hope8451 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    what is the meaning of Close Change. Also is it we need to have close change to start and new style of turn.

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for question! Closed Change meaning: "Change" means that we normally use this figure to change from Natural Turn (or turn to right) to Reverse Turn (or turn to left) or vice versa. "Closed" means that we end this figure with feet closed.
      Therefore typical basic Routine is: Natural Turn | Closed Change | Reverse Turn | Closed Change. Hope it helps! :)

    my partner is 6 feet tall nd i’m just 5.1 feet.. so wen we dance i find it difficult coz his steps are bigger than mine

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes height difference may cause difficulties, but with correct leg work and body weight transfer these difficulties can be minimized. Length of step should be not to big so that both of you can dance comfortably.

    How to dance around others couples to avoid bumping to them on a crowed dancing floor?

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kcldc Thanks for question. My general answer would be, couple have to learn leading and following, so that man can lead direction of movement to avoid bumping into others. Probably this is good theme for some future videos! :) Thanks!
