Hasn't been a better Nintendo 2D platformer since imo. Kirby's Epic Yarn, Yoshi's Whooly World & Crafted World and NSMB U don't even come remotely close. Kirby Return to Dreamland Deluxe is solid, as well as DK Tropical freeze. But eh, WLSI! was such a breath of fresh air for it's time.
I highly agree!. Lol. I love the Wario land series. I know that Wario WARE is popular and tons of people like it, but it's just not MY cup of tea personally. Plus, this game released in 2008. That was fifteen years ago. The series is overdue for a new entry at this point in my opinion. :)
@@michaelbrosnan2969The Original Wario Ware was a classic. The new one is not really that much fun to play to me personally. They should've never shelved this series.
Still the best art style of any game I’ve ever seen. Why they never did this again is beyond me. This and Wario Land 4 are two of the best 2D platformers out there.
Most likely because it's expensive and time consuming to do hand drawn animation. Just Wario alone has over 2000 frames of animation, and if anything about him changed modifying those graphics is no small task. I do agree this game's art direction is incredible, though!
I love how Wario is such a thief that the princess thanks him for rescuing her and Wario doesn't care what he says, he gets her out of his way and steals the treasure of the kingdom
I kinda hate how they waste Wario's true reputation in the Mario party, kart and olympic games as a useless dumb and smelly second Mario. While he in his own games is he alot of fun and badass in his own greed motivated way. Treasure hunting and money making glory. No survival, saving princesses or the faith of the world like the usual adventure games do, but just discover the unknown places in the whole world, reaching a goal to collect and swim in a sea of money, gold, jewelry and mysterious artifacts as much as possible.
I guess there just isn’t anyone interested in making one, the original team disbanded long ago, and Goodfeel now works on Yoshi games, while WarioWare has Intelligent System, who also work on Paper Mario and Fire Emblem, though Wario has slowly recovered a lot of his more classic WL attitude and abilities during the Switch era, maybe that could mean something, maybe not
Nintendo needs to bring back the 2D/anime like art style in their games again, it would certainly shake things up with the usual 3D style that we are now so used to, it would be very refreshing. Also, can we finally have Captain syrup return again for a new game after like 15 years?
Just heard that the developers behind this (good feel) are making princess peach showtime, still can’t believe this was their first home console market game they made an amazing first impression, I loved this game back then and still do to this day
This game might not be very epic, but it was perhaps the first major 2D platformer on a home console since Yoshi's Story. It paved the way for DKCR, Kirby's Epic Yarn, New SMB Wii, Kirby Return to Dreamland, Rayman Origins, and even Muramasa. Donkey Kong Jungle Beat I suppose counts, but that was seemingly borrowing from the rhythm game genre with its inputs. Also Super Paper Mario kinda broke ground for it, too.

This game only runs natively in 480p 480i or 576i and has a limited aspect ratio of 4:3. This is literally the most accurate way of portraying this game being played on original hardware. If you had the physical game or had played it on the Wii you would know this.
To be clear, this game *has* a widescreen mode, but it just shows a border where some things from pause menu get displayed. It also displays FMV's fullscreen as opposed to with letterboxing but it's not that big of a change cause their resolution is still the same. Considering how it does not enhance the visuals in a substantial way it makes no sense to use it. Especially since anamorphic widescreen uses the same number of pixels the standard 4X3 mode, meaning that the resolution becomes stretched in the Widescreen mode making the image lose a bit of it's definition(not major but still pointless to make image look worse for a border that compensates for different aspect ratio). The game's also not upscaled, it's just ran on the emulator which doesn't emulate wii's smeary digital output. If you pay close attention to the flying pod which is a n object that rotate, you'll notice that it has aliasing on the top. That would not be visible if the game was internally up rendered.
Just gave this video a double-check, and upon closer inspection, the 4:3 format does seem to be the best way to go for this game. Still not sure about the resolution, though.🤔 I'll try to check another video later, see if that's any different. I am wondering, though, why didn't LPA play this one himself?
