    I think you're right about luxury shadows being lower pigment. It's the market. A true luxury customer (think the kind of person for whom quiet luxury was the way they were raised, not a meme-trend) NEVER goes full warpaint clown. I wore Estee Lauder for years, and the transition to brands with big pigment was real, I can tell you. When people say these shadows are "bad," I think that's not actually true -- they're just for a different market.

      @thelipstickgal  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, I get where you're coming from. I loved the lower pigment load of the mattes and the one satin (center shade) but the two metallic shades were hard to pick up and hard to see on my eye. I thought that with my fair skin tone, this would be the perfect quint to try out, and I really like 3 out of the 5, but I'm quite disappointed in the metallic shades. They're not very long wearing, hard to apply, and don't show up very well. Thanks so much for watching today and sharing your thoughts. I appreciate it.

    The nostalgia of a sponge-tipped applicator -- and the memory of buying a 12-pack of them because the ones that came with the compact are grody and you need fresh ones! I converted to brushes pretty early, but oh, that first swipe with a new sponge tip is a memory.

    • @thelipstickgal

      Yes, I loved a sponge tip applicator. I remember getting a hole in one of the original ones from my Clinique single, and just flipping it over and kept going. : )

    Hi Rebecca 😊 Just some food for thought - Dior reformulated their quints last year and they are nowhere near as good as the previous ones. Luckily the Dior quints I have are the older formula. That being said the new “limited edition” quints are lovely, it’s only the quints in the permanent line that are not as good now. The little sponge applicators are really good for applying the shimmery shades (like to pack them on the eyelids).
    Dior and Chanel eyeshadow/makeup by definition are soft and subtle so they flatter mature eyes. The Cle De Peau quads are divine. By comparison the YSL quads are full on pigments so if you like that (and ND, Pat McGrath etc) then I’d give Dior & Chanel a miss bc you’ll never get the colour payoff.
    I also have sensitive eyes and there is definitely a difference between luxury and “drugstore” brands for eyeshadow in terms of irritation for me. I’m 50 and have tried many brands over the years but these days I prefer luxury brands only and buy less makeup overall. I’m more likely to put non-luxury products on my lips but never on my eyes.
    Glad you tried the Dior quint, but there are much better colour stories than this one. It sounds like the YSL quads are a better fit for you though. I have the YSL babylone roses quad but it’s too glittery and the fallout really irritates my eyes. So I have to pass on more YSL quads despite the fact they are really lovely.

      Thanks so much for the detailed run down of these luxury shadows. I'm not a huge PMG fan. I don't mind the pigmentation, but the price point seems a bit over the top. I don't seem to reach for the special shades as much as others do, so they mothership palettes don't hold much allure for me. I only have 2, and I'll have to be completely bowled over to pick up another one.
      I've heard that the Chanel quads are much less pigment. I'll likely skip those quads. I'm not expecting extreme pigment, but I want to see the metallics int this Dior quad show up with less effort, and last longer throughout the day. I try not to purchase limited edition products because once they're gone, it's more difficult for me to use them on my channel. I don't like showing something you can't get your hands on.
      I'll have to pick up a Cle de Peau quad. I've also heard great things about the Surratt shadows. I'll probably pick up one of the premade color stories later on this year. I've always appreciate the quality of luxury eyeshadows compared to drugstore brands. Like you, I don't mind a drugstore lippie (or face powder) but I've stopped purchasing drugstore eyeshadows. They just don't work for me.

      @@thelipstickgal LOL I’m the same with PMG - I have 2 motherships (got them at 40% as they are over AUD200). But I just don’t reach for them. I do have the ND retro and glam palettes, but in general I find I’m using my smaller quints/quads more from Dior, Chanel, Suqqu, CDP, TF, Guerlain, Viseart, LE. The only bigger palette that I really love is the new Byredo mineralscapes. That is just gorgeous. To be honest I think Viseart palettes are so great, esp for the price. You can get soft or deeper looks and the shimmers are lovely and easy to use. They are truly better than the new Dior quints IMO. I have the “old” Dior quints in soft cashmere, Tutu, Denim, plum tulle plus 2x limited from last year Eden roc and Night walk (holiday). I won’t be buying any more Dior unless I’m truly wowed and reviews confirm good quality because Dior quints are all AUD120+ now.
      I already have a great collection (built before prices skyrocketed) and I’ll never use everything I have as it is!!! So, I’m just much more mindful about what I add these days and I don’t have any daughters to share things with (just 1 son 14yo).
      Totally agree about limited edition products in general….its so annoying and I refuse to participate in the frenzy that they usually come with (esp Chanel, Dior). It also makes no sense for content creators to focus too much on limited edition items when they are often sold out by the time you review them - there’s no return on your investment there.
      I really like how you use a mix of new products + what you already have. It reminds us to enjoy our collections more and not constantly stay in the “buy buy buy” mindset, especially in the current economic climate.
      I hope you are doing well health wise and it’s remarkable that you find the time to create such great content for us with everything else you have going on in your life including working FT. THANKYOU It is really appreciated 🌷

    I feel that Chanel has even less color payoff in their shadows, I love Chanel products but not the shadows, I’ll stay with Viseart or Sydney Grace, they are beautiful and don’t accentuate the texture. I have been wanting that Danessa Myricks cheek product, love the Chanel highlighter balm and the lippies. Have a great weekend 💕

    With Dior you have two types of formulas, baked gelee and baked. You have the baked one. I have Soft Cashmere (also baked) and the metallic in that one is very shiny. The baked gelee ones are all quite subtle but very elegant on the eye. I tend to accessorize them with a bit of a liquid lurex from LE for extra sparkle.
    I actually got a YSL quad where the shimmer shade was not super wow-ing.
    So in conclusion, when it comes to the luxury eyeshadow realm, there is a lot of variety and it really depends which palette you get.

      Good to know. I have plenty of blingy shadows, and I've been enjoying the quint since I recorded this. I'm 40 and have been reading and watching lots of reviews of luxury eyeshadows lately. I think you're right--in general, they seem to be less pigmented and more subtle. That said, I didn't get a good impression of those Dior quints after reading about them. I just picked up a Tom Ford creme quad myself in Tiger Eye and absolutely LOVE the textures on my eyes. But it's not worth $90. (I didnt pay full price and wouldn't.)

    • @thelipstickgal
      @thelipstickgal  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've had one TF quad before, and I also didn't think it was worth the $88 price point. (at the time) I should've looked into the Dior quint reviews before boldly moving forward and purchasing, but . . . Sometimes I get on a roll, and throw caution to the wind. Thanks so much for your thoughts, and making the time to watch today.

    I adore the YSL quads, and I am also at the point where I do not like powder highlights. I love the merit sticks and today I may be pulling the trigger on the new Patrick Ta. I have been hesitating in the plump gloss from Charlotte T, and I don’t know why 😂😂😂. I love Dior lip products but am not impressed with their quads - never have been. I think you were spot on

    • @thelipstickgal
      @thelipstickgal  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I ordered the Patrick Ta yesterday. I hope it gets here soon! I love the Merit highlights, but this Chanel one has a different feeling on the skin. I feel like the shine of the Merit one is more obvious, and the Chanel one is just a little more hydrating, and less sparkly. I'm super impressed. I'm going to pull out the Westman Atelier again and try it out. Maybe my preferences have changed since my skin is changing so quickly these days from perimenopause. I might like the really glowy, and hydrating Westman A highlight stick. Thanks for watching today Quincy.

    • @QuinceyG
      @QuinceyG 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@thelipstickgal I actually think I’m gonna skip the highlighters to be honest from Patrick, which is shocking, but I just don’t think I would use the both formulas. I love my Becca champagne, pop powder - I know so old-school, lol - and the merit. Between the blushes that I wear, which are really beautiful and hydrating, my skin is usually reallypretty aluminous without an obvious highlighter. So, I completely get what you’re saying. But I can’t wait to see everybody’s review of them, the Patrick ones, because I might give in and get this the silver or the pink one. Which one did you get?

      @thelipstickgal  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I like the softer look too. I wasn't disappointed with the mattes and the satin, but the two sparkly shades were not what I was expecting. I wanted there to be more visible pigment, and for them to wear well. That's ok, this is how I learn. Thanks so much for watching today!

    I have a couple of the DM blushes and I wish she would do more colors that are muted/paler bc I love them but they hit 100 on me fast too. I like how the hot pink looks but this highlighter pink is prob a better bet for me.

      I love the shade Rosé and Brunch. It works well for me if I am careful. I also have Golden Hour, but it's so bright. It takes a lot of finessing for me to get it to look good without being too much.
      I really like the lowlighter in I bothered. It's a subtle shine and a lovely cool shade on my cheeks. Thanks for watching.

    I was so sad about the Armani because it felt numbing on the lips but there was no mention of plumping. I only saw a few reviews mention it but it wasn’t very glossy though it was comfy.
    Lol @CT haven’t tried that one but the Gucci ones totally turned my lips red.

    • @thelipstickgal
      @thelipstickgal  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I didn't notice much numbing or plumping. I had such a slight tingle, I was wondering if it was tingling. I'm still trying to decide if it's tingling or it's my imagination. Apparently your lips are more sensitive than mine are. I totally skipped the Gucci because I heard that the color doesn't matter, it's so plumping that all you see are red lip no matter the shade you pick up.

    • @anneviscardi
      @anneviscardi 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@thelipstickgal ha yes so maybe it was slight tingling. Yea it was bizarre, i heard kackie mention it and i had already ordered it and was like ok il try. Yes! The Gucci was all burn and just red lol so there was no point when the color doesn’t look like it appears. The Patrick ta are the only ones that had cinnamon and mint but i felt more cooling & those didn’t bother me at all, i just didn’t love the smell ha. Otherwise i think most mixed ones have the spicy overtake the cooling aspect.

    I love me some Danessa Myricks but I was disappointed in and returned my Danessa Myricks Lowlighter in "Unbothered" because it looked soooo yellow and warm on me. It does have a cool-toned lavender shift but the base is so warm-yellow, so that if I looked at my face head-on it looks like I ran into some pollen or something. You're making me want that Chanel Baume Essentielle, though. Can you update how it wears? I age 50+ and I love Khaki but she has totally different skin so I can't trust her recommendation.

    • @thelipstickgal
      @thelipstickgal  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've been wearing it for nearly a week, and I'm in love. My 16 year old loves it too. I think that it's a universally flattering product. I do want you to keep in mind that it's very hydrating. Some people won't like the feel on the cheeks. I don't feel like it's tacky or heavy, but when you touch your cheek, there's definitely a balmy feel to the skin.
      I like the way it wears, but the hydration sinks in about 4 hours after application. I can' reapply, but It doesn't make my blush or foundation look messy as it absorbs into my skin. If you like cream products, I think you'd like the Baume Essentiel. I like it under my corrector and concealer better than over my corrector and concealer. Placing it over the coverage products was Kackie's hack, but I get amazing wear with I tap on a light layer first, then put on my coverage products.
