Grainline Scout fangirl here - I've made 15 (over a number of years) and love them, although my pattern has been modified a number of times and is not as boxy and has a narrow stitched down facing rather than the bias finish on the neck. I love the original cap sleeve. I did a costing comparison on the printer you are trialling - based on Amazons cheapest paper from your link it would cost £166.60 to print 2500 pages - my Brother laser printer costs £75 for the same quantity of pages (laser toner and A4 paper from Amazon) and the initial printer cost is about the same as the thermal one so the laser printing works out at over 220% of my laser. I'm staying with my laser.
I will certainly return to the Scout Tee, is has a lot of potential. And thanks for that cost analysis, great job! Sounds like the laser is most definitely the one for you 🥰
Your work is lovely. I especially like the mustard linen top. That is so my style. I’m sorry you were disappointed in the shirt made with the vintage fabric. I think it is gorgeous.
Lovely shirt. Looks so comfortable. Well done on the gorgeous dress too. The trouble with thermal printers is you can’t iron the paper or leave it too long in the sun so be careful.
Thanks for this comment! I am currently living in the south of Texas and wondered what happens if the paper gets too hot (in transit, for example)... it does look really practical and like a good size though.
Hi Ruth, I do so enjoy watching your videos. The pink shirt dress is stunning and I am so glad you managed to repurpose it. Wishing you happy sewing. 🌸
Hi Ruth, a cuppa and your vlog…great way to start the day! Jenna shirt is amazing and love how you rescued the pink shirt dress. It looks beautiful on you. It will be interesting to hear your evaluation of using your bag design and I think that sometimes the best things emerge when we don’t overthink it but just give it a go and embrace the process. Have a great rest of the week and see you next vlog.
Hello Ruth, another lovely vlog from you. The pink linen shirt dress is a great way to recover from a cutting mishap, well done it looks fabulous. I hope you enjoyed Attingham Park , I have not visited for a while. The Jenna shirt in the pigeon wishes fabric is beautiful. You are very creative designing your own tote bag, I look forward to seeing it on Sunday. Happy sewing 🧵 xx
How satisfying to create something so beautiful from a fail. Your shires looks stunning! 😍 I’ve been following your vlogging journey and only just realised I hadn’t subscribed 😮😮 corrected that now 😁😊
Hello Ruth! I am starting up sewing again after a multi-decade break. I see you like to make shirts and was wondering whether you could talk a bit about what you do or don't like in a shirt pattern? It sounds like you knew that the Closet Core pattern would be good... I have no idea what features to look for in a pattern. Thanks for this video; it's interesting to see what patterns and fabrics you've used and how your journey is going!
Hi Beth, so great to hear you are coming back to sewing after a bit of a break and thank you for the suggestion about a shirt making video. I'll have a think and see how I can help x
Ruth, I also love the floral shirt but can understand your dislike of the fit. I would unpick the whole garment then find a different top or shirt pattern that fits within the pieces you have and make a different top xx
Hi Ruth, love your pink dress ( fantastic rescue garment) . A wee question about the printer. Is the paper like fax machine paper? The old style fax rolls with the funny feeling surface?
Thank you, I'm so glad I was able to rescue it. I've worn it so much already! You are testing my memory on what fax paper feels like 😆 But the thermal paper feels like normal copier paper to me, it's very smooth and a similar weight to what you would use in your standard printer x
😂😂 it was sort of , oh it’s hard to describe. But thank you for confirming it’s just like copier paper. Your blouse was always meant to be a dress. Win win.
Hi Linda, thank you 🥰 And the paper comes in 2 forms, a roll that sits inside the printer itself or a ream of folded paper that you can feed into the printer from a slot in the back and it draws it through. Think printing in the 1980's with those long reams of sheets of connected paper 😄

@@SeamStressedRuth do you think it will be cost effective xx
For me yes because I can now cancel my ink subscription service which costs me over £70 a year 😊
