@@sheildproto2621 Yeah I never said the dog isn't the one who started the confrontation but that doesnt change the fact that the tegu did indeed attack the dog back. You dont have to be the the one who starts a fight for you to attack someone. My brother and I donated our 3 1/2 foot, probably a Red Tegu lizard, back in 1973 to the Indianapolis Zoo. I had just completed my first year at Indiana State University and my brother was headed there in the fall, so it became necessary to find a home four our Tegu. It was the first reptile ever provided to the Zoo. Wonderful lizard. Gorgeous coloring, red, black, with some yellow stripes. So gentle. We got the Tegu thru Mail-Order before the Import-Export Laws were significantly toughened and that was a good thing. It cost $5.00 and arrived via Air Shipment in the dead of winter in Indiana. In August, 1984, when I was back in Indianapolis for my wedding to my wife of now 36 years, I went by the Zoo and inquired about its status. None of the employees seemed to know about it but they got the Zoo Director to come over and he said that he remembered the Tegu. I asked what happened to it and he said that a few years earlier they traded it to another Zoo but could not remember which one. I asked why the trade and he said that it had gotten even larger and was getting more aggressive, hence, harder to deal with, so they found another home for the Tegu. Ours had a large scar that ran across the width of the base of the tail indicating that it occurred during capture or from some predator attack. It ate fresh eggs, with lettuce and raw hamburger from a petri dish. It was very gentle and would lay on your leg to absorb your body heat. What was most memorable about this lizard was that it crapped on my Mother's brand new, white Karastan carpet in the living room. We tried everything to get the stain out before Mom came home and killed us. Fortunately, we were able to minimize the stain color and size by moving a chair ever so slightly over the stain as to nearly completely cover it. We did not tell my Mom about this for over a decade until my parents had moved to another home.....I will never forget grabbing and carrying the lizard out of the living room while it was defecating, its head turned to the side while looking at my brother who was sitting there paralyzed with both fear and laughter of the sight of me carrying the lizard out of the living room....the lizard thinking, "now, what the hell is this all about".....what a great pet he made.

I am from Argentina🇦🇷, where the tegu is a native animal. They are very intelligent and friendly if you domesticate them, the thing is that if you leave them abandoned and without human contact they become aggressive very quickly. In the wild they become large, aggressive and with several scars since they are animals that fight all their lives. I had some and they are beautiful animals, although for other people they are food in my country 😅.

@Derrick the fuck yall talkin bout Lewis Wow what a cutting retort, that really put me in my place.
Firstly, just because an animal is an invasive species doesn't give somebody the right to aggravate or stress an animal for the purpose of amusement. Would you stick a camera in the face of an invasive hippo in Columbia? Or are you the kind of person who enjoys watching tormented animals... perhaps dog fighting, cock fighting, bull fighting etc.?
Secondly, would you risk your dog being harmed to record this footage?

Video should be called dog hoes up to invasive species in curiosity gets antsie and starts barking, teh tegu which is still invasive feels threatened so threatens the dog back; the dog having instincts continues to try to get the tegu, the video is then cut off. The tegu was most likely killed after shooting because it’s still very much invasive” you know...to say what really went off. Yes I don’t think wildlife should be harassed but tegus defending themself happens often even when not being filmed. If the man went up to grabbed it, it would still want to defend itself. This stress wasn’t gonna be avioded.

Should be called “tegu defends itself against threatening dog and human”. Tegus, even wild ones, won’t do anything if you just leave them alone. It looks to me like you intentionally provoked it to get a video of one running. That’s horrible. The dog could have been seriously hurt or killed too, tegus have really sharp teeth and powerful jaws, and god knows what kind of infection the dog could’ve gotten from it. Also it wouldn’t be an invasive species if it weren’t for humans, and them being ‘invasive’ doesn’t give people the right to treat them like garbage. The only reason they’re in Florida is because people are fucking stupid and immoral and release an animal into the wild that should not be there when they can’t take care of it. Just because of this whole thing they’re so misunderstood, Argentine tegus are such cool lizards and they make great pets if you’re willing to make the commitment. They’re like dogs in lizards’ bodies

Tegu legitimately looked stressed and desperate. Arching up to appear bigger, pretty sure running on its hinds was meant to have similar effect. Notice how hard the animal is breathing and that every time it runs the dog off it returns to someplace it seems to consider it's safe space. Honestly feel bad for the tegu likely neglected and abandoned scavenging for food then just randomly has an animal big enough to be a natural predator roll up and fixate on her while the dogs owner records. Hell, anyone notice the tail's been recently grown back?

Okay first of all if that is actually someone recording this you really should go put your dog inside. I know tegus look super cute and funny but they can seriously injure your dog in only a few seconds. They are very powerful lizards. Lastly just put your dog inside so both the lizard and the dog won't feel threatened. Then you can generally just wait until the tegu leaves or you can scare it off. You are 3 times its size, and it will be afraid of you lol. Other than that, I do appreciate the opportunity to see a tegu full blown sprint at something.

BTW, this tegu has re-grow his tail. I guess life is tough for tegus there. Here I see they in the wild, and I've never seem a tegu with a re-grown tail.

Tegus are some of the chillest lizards, but when they're in the wild and feel threatened, they don't fuck around. Awesome pets, it's a shame that they get hunted in the Southern States since they thrive in the environment while they aren't native to the US. They love going for the unguarded egg nests.

Dogs are fucking annoying to other small animals. My neighbours had a dog that would terrorize any other smaller animal in the yard and around it. When it spoted a toad for example, he would forgo any activity to chase it. You could call him and not pay attention to you. No wonder after that dog not even little toads and lizards stayed on the area. Sadly the tegu didn't seriously bite the dog in order to make him cry and shit itself.
