    Just got my first Kizer yesterday. The beglighter 2 button lock and the action took me by surprise. My first thought was 'Wait... is thing assisted'

    I agree that thumbhole only, no flipper tab, is the best ergo version of the sheepdog. I have a mini sheepdog in 154cm that likes to hide out in my 5th pocket … or come out for fidgety times.

    I just recieved mine 2 days ago, absolutely the best and most solid button lock ive tried.

    I bought this exact model of Kizer and arrived a few days ago. By far my favorite daily carry so far, and the action is extremely smooth between the button lock and finger flicking upon deploying and retracting the blade. If it’s not G-10, I also love Micarta grips, and this knife does it very well.

    Got this knife today for Christmas. Absolutely love it. I have the Sheepdog XL, which I do carry from time to time, but this version is the perfect size and will probably see a lot of pocket time. This is only my second knife with micarta and I’m really liking this material.

      I was about to say this exact thing. I think Kizer has the best bar lock(especially for the price) clutch lock version is my favorite knife right now. only complaint is the pocket clip is a little weak. I bent it first week but Kizer has been great sent me a new one and let me buy 3 more just in case.

      Their clutch locks are so good, to me, they feel magnet assisted when closing.
      Absolutely love the knife.
      Yeah, pocket clip is hot garbage and I'm looking forward to an after market one.

    I’m so glad you’re just as excited about having a sheepdog in this very specific configuration: thumbhole, no flipper tab, full size sheepdog, contoured handles, recessed liners, and button lock! Have you seen the brass one coming out soon? stonewashed blade and hardware

    Notice that this one has a different finger choil than the other micarta scale ones with no flipper. This one has a solid non-sharpened spot for your finger with a small sharpening choil forward of that. The other ones have the forward portion of your finger in the sharpening choil. This is a much better blade design for your finger..;). Love it!

    I'm that one guy that continually wishes Kizer would stop making all their knives in 154CM, and switch to CPM154. 154CM isn't particularly tough (3.5 out of 10 per Larrin Thomas), has so so edge retention (4.5 out of 10), but pretty good corrosion resistance. CPM154 is the same, but almost twice as tough (5 out of 10). And I presume it's also fairly cheap to buy as most of the Kershaw Launch series is in it.
    That being said this is a really nice looking knife, and I may eventually pick one up. I just wish the steel were different.

    I bought a cheap Walmart branded box cutter. I keep that for work to open packages products stuff I use in a daily basis and then I keep one of several of my pocket knives on me. So I do the best of both worlds. Use the box cutter to abuse and cut stuff. Open and keep my pocket knife for anything else that I know won't abuse my knife.

      @ThatImmo haven't gotten either of those two yet but have considered both. I'll tell you though man...if you want a nice budget knife I've been really happy with my 2 Petrified Fish-- Beluga ($50) and the other one I have which was like $30, a D2 flipper whose name I can't remember. Absolutely love them.

    • @ThatImmo
      @ThatImmo 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pleasedontman I'm only using button locks, plan to extend to axis locks. The fast fidgeting is crucial to me, and so is not putting my fingers in the path of the blade :D
      But thanks for the recommendation, I know PF does some solid stuff.
      I'm mostly a Sencut and Civivi guy, but my fav knife ever is Trivisa Hydra, look it up!
      PS. I'm not saying that either Kubey or Bestech are bad per se, but my Kubey Creon had horrible action and quickly developed ugly patina on the Damascus blade, and I received a Bestech Glok that was probably used and returned, damaged by some moron who ruined the captured pivot.

    I love knives. The one thing I don’t understand is people cutting cardboard with their pocket knives. This is where razor knives should be used.. that’s why they are called “box cutters”. Why would I want to dull my pocket knife or chance banging it up when they make a better tool for that. I keep one in my garage just for that purpose.

    • @metal_complex
      @metal_complex  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Honestly I do construction and I use my pocket knife for work. Sure I have to sharpen it more but I actually enjoy sharpening my knives so I just keep my strop handy and then if I need to use the diamond stone on it I can do so. I don’t really see the point of changing blades when I can just sharpen the 1 I have! 😂

    • @dubester1982
      @dubester1982 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Same here! WS Field Sharpener works well for that. A lot of times a quick run across ceramic and a few passes on the strop and the edge comes right back. The two diamond stones will remove material relatively quickly for anything more in depth too. I love the thing and use it a lot more then my fixed angle system

    • @Stahlwerk88
      @Stahlwerk88 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good point, but to be fair, you could probably swap two new omega springs into a Kizer clutch lock knife faster than you could disassemble the button lock version. CERTAINLY at least before you could *reassemble* the button lock version, I’d wager.

    • @wes.killed.it.5511
      @wes.killed.it.5511 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because a spine whack test with little to minimal pressure tests to see if the blade disengages due to incorrect lock geometry. The point is that during normal to slightly heavier use, a person might have to release a stuck/wedged knife from some thick material and must pull upwards with the handle to release said knife. That exact situation is mimicking an instance which the spine of the blade may come under pressure, and if it fails then that blade is going 180 degrees right onto your fingers. If the knife has correct lock geometry (usually occurs in frame/liner locks and button locks that operate with a plunge/spring) like it should have coming straight from factory, then a knife should hold up to a minimal spine whack which in turn tells the user that the lock is making appropriate contact with the blade tang.
      50% of people bitch and moan like it's sacrilegious to test a knife for lock failure this way, while the other 50% of people (people with higher IQ's than the other 50%) understands that it's not a perfect system to test for failure, however, it does give the user some what of an expressive idea to whether a specific knife will hold up under use.

    Love Kizer! I have many but I only have one version of the sheepdog currently; the mini with the double detent and no lock.the mini with the choil still fits the hand wonderfully and the double detent allows for insane fidgetability! But ever since Kizer started doing the cross bar lock and now the button lock in torn between which version I want to get. After this video I’m now leaning towards the button lock version! Thanks again for the wonderful point of view MC!
