Hi Frederico, I have a premodel of Chrono Suisse, my father bought from Mr.Lang in the eighties, one or two years before the Company was founded. It has a beautiful red Gold case and a HP Zenith 146 handwounded movement, ehich was the last handwounded Chronograph from Zenith before ElPrimero came out, the automatic Version from Zenith.
If you like to see, I send you Picture. Regards from Germany !

I nearly bought one of the late 1990s models a few years ago. I wish now that I had. Really classic and individually looking. Nice to wear a watch where one will not meet another owner in one's lifetime

I do remember a few years ago, watching Gerd Rudiger Lang talking about the brand, I always loved that high quality individual uncommon wristwatch and Chronoswiss definitely is on my connoisseur list.

I have 2 of them. A jump hour and the klassik both in 18k. I love them both and get comments on them whenever I sport them.. Large but tasteful, very fine watches.

Excellent review Federico. I became aware of the brand in the mid-90's, and loved what they did. Wonderfully guilloched dials, finely crafted cases, clever and unique design. They were, as you said, quite popular with hard-core watch enthusiasts. I lived in Chicago at the time, and there was only one jeweler (Smart Jewelers) that I knew carried them. When I moved to the Ft Lauderdale area in 2003, there was a jeweler in Weston that had a stainless steel Delphis. My wife fell in love with this watch, but shortly thereafter the jeweler ceased to carry the brand. A few months back I finally bought her an 18K Rose gold Delphis: it's really a beautiful watch. Their chronographs are also beautifully done, as is anything with a regulateur dial. I don't know if Chronoswiss will ever have a significant presence in the US, or how much longer they will exist as a brand. Most people have never heard of them, or think of them as a low-tier fashion brand. But some know better. Thanks!

In general, if they continue down the path they started on - impeccable craftsmanship for reasonable prices, i don’t see how they cant develop the same following that finally lead Grand Seiko to be distributed outside Japan. I imported mine before then, but they’re growing their presence steadily.

Prior to company being sold, In my opinion they made absolutely fantastic watches. The models from the new company clearly show lower quality. I'm still a huge fan. Wish they had better distribution In USA. I even volunteered to promote them on the West Coast. This is my most favorite brand.

Interesting video. I remember seeing Chronoswiss in the watch magazines maybe 15 years ago. They were beautiful watches. Their business model reminded me of Franck Mueller.....highly decorated and artistic pieces built around ETA movements. It's not a bad business model and Ill bet there's good demand at that price point. To the credit of Chronoswiss, I don't recall that they ever did gold plated crap like that wretched Frederique Constant, lol.

I have a Chronoswiss Regulateur (bought used), which I will never part with. It's such a wonderful, understated piece. I believe it uses an Enicar base movement, retrofitted with an auto winding system - which works amazingly well.
Looking at Chronoswiss' current catalogue, I think they need to trim out the fat and focus on their best and iconic pieces, especially for the size of their market share and manufacturing.
    Great video BTW!

Hi, Federico. I had a bad experience with Chronoswiss in the 90s: the minutes hand of my CS regulator fell off near one week after I purchased it. It took sometime to get the watch back and the rep who handed me the watch commented on how bad CS' watches were put together. I sold the watch almost immediately for a fraction of what I had paid for it. No doubt that they were beautiful pieces; but from their rep's comment you can see that they had no brand management at all...

Ebstein bought them out many years ago. The two Langs gave it up. They used to loom like Breguet watches. Now they have taken a new direction with unusual colors.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Chronoswiss. I owned a Kairos for many years (longest I've ever owned a watch actually). Love their Breguet-esque look and the quality you get for your money. Their new Regulator is a nice model but maybe too expensive for what you get. Nice video - now I want to get another Chronoswiss! Cheers, John

As you know I like your content and style; Clear, on point and informed. I've seen very, very few ChronoSwiss watches here, really only a couple on the used market. I wonder if they are amongst the first bunch of company's to fall with the present re-shuffle in watchmaking? The industry is in some deal of trouble across the board as we all know. I didn't know about the problems with distributors, and the reasons for their demise. That was interesting. I think a number of Jewellery shops and AD's are going to reduce or stop selling so many brands, too. As the middle class drops away, which it's doing fast, along with the need and even desire for mechanical watches, some vanishings are to be expected. It would be an interesting topic for you to look at the survival-ability of certain brands/watch company's globally. Just a thought...no one wants a watch from a company that's teetering on the edge of absorption and/or extinction; no warranty or servicing=worry and a sense of being duded.

I have a Timemaster and just went to a show in Manhattan at Gotham Hall and saw many amazing watches. However, I went there to hold Chronoswiss Regulators and I was not disappointed. I am soon to be purchased one of their beautiful models - Flying Regulator Manufacture

What’s the deal nowadays with CS? I own a Timemaster Chronograph, the classic version (pre-2010). Tried to sell it a year ago, but turned out to be really difficult. Not big enough a name to get a decent price for. For this quality watch, I decided to hang onto it myself.

Chronoswiss, from it's inception, was a well regarded up and coming luxury brand. At least that was, until the brand creator and principal driver / well regarded watchmaker Gerd Rudiger Lang, sold the business to one Oliver Ebstein. Whilst G.R. Rudiger bought in ebauches and parts from the likes of ETA, Dubois Depraz and Kelek (just like Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet do even today) and them modified them to suit (skeletonised, engraved and accurised them). The new owners have decided (in their words), to concentrate on making "beautiful dials". Aside of moving company HQ and manufacturing from Bavaria to Switzerland, they have closed down most of their. Dealerships and Service Centres Worldwide. From there on, the company went downhill. Where most Swiss watchmakers strived to consolidate and to bring large part of their manufacturing in-house, Chronoswiss is perfectly happy to buy in bits and pieces made by others.

Here in Germany, Chrono Swiss has the reputation of being very unreliable in keeping time! Even though they took ETA movements, after being handled by Chronoswiss, forget about them. And they forced the one hand watch to much, forgetting that there are more buyers out there who would like the three hand face watch more. I think they deserved where they are now.
And on ebay Germany, you get them thrown after you for little money 'cause nobody wants them ! Another thing that killed them was the brand Ingersoll! When they came on the market, you could get a skeleton watch for a fraction of the price of Chronswiss. Ingersoll flooded the market with skeleton watches.
And soon after that if you were wearing Chronoswiss, you were asked if it was an Ingersoll. Looooool.

they used to be the darling of the watch world just a decade or so ago... had it's own forum on timezone and everything... once Gerd Lang retired, company switched owners, it just died. I know they are still around but it just isn't the same... lost that certain magic. it's too bad since they offered some very interesting watches. I still want to add a 80's Lang era manual wind Regulateur to my collection some day.

Federico, you were going very well, until you mentioned that Chronoswiss did a "Quartz" Minute Repeater. It's not quartz! It's a Quarter Repeater, because it only tells you the hours and quarters. Chronoswiss was born in opposition to Quartz. Mr. Lang started Chronoswiss to preserve mechanical watchmaking techniques, it would be completely against the company ethos to have a quartz movement.

Observatories and manufactures used to have regulator clocks as an accurate reference point for setting the time. - The first 3000 Chronoswiss regulator wristwatches came in stainless steel, steel/bronze, steel/gold, and all bronze cases. The movement was a handwound Unitas 6376Z. These first ones are quite hard to find. I guess whoever has one is keeping it.
