I have a serger / coverstitch combo from baby lock. It’s the acolade model. Best money I spent. It gives everything a professional finish. Thanks for this video on undergarments. I will give this a try.
Hi Billie, I am very excited to see your review when the coverstitch machine arrives. It will give you so much more versatility when working with knits. Just today, I tried a new stretch stitch to hem a sweatshirt and was so much happier than my usual failed twin needle hem. You seem to be very comfortable with the fold over elastic. I recently bought my first length of it at Joann but have been hesitant to take the plunge and sew it on to my Luna Loungewear pattern. After watching your demonstration, I am encouraged to take a deep breath and try it out tomorrow. Last year, I started sewing jeans and had a neighbor remark that I had too much time on my hands. No, it was the fulfillment of a long time goal. Being able to wear something that comes from your own hands is incredibly satisfying. Your hobby can never be measured in "billable hours". We are expecting a big freeze here in Texas tomorrow. You may get it in a couple of days. J
Hi Jane - it is your time. You decide how you want to spend it! As you said, it is incredibly satisfying to wear something made with your own hands. I recently went to Costco and saw that it had a pack (I think 5 or 6 pairs) of organic cotton panties for about $15 - cheaper for sure but they will not give me the same fulfillment as wearing something I made myself. You will get the hang of working with fold-over elastics in no time. It is actually quite forgiving to work with. Stay safe and stay warm! 😘😘😘
I am so glad I recently found your channel! This is an amazing explanation of your techniques. I downloaded that pattern months ago but never tried it out. I have a cover stitch already but think I would prefer your tiny zigzag method. Thanks for your inspiring videos Billie! Thoroughly enjoy all of them!
Thank you for your lovely comment! I’m so glad you found the explanations helpful. Good things are meant to be shared - I hope you try the pattern soon! 😘
I like the way you did the burrito method. Coats and Clark has a stretchable thread called Eloflex that is made for sewing knits. You can use a straight stitch to sew knits and the seams will not pop. I thought you might want to try using Eloflex with your twin needle idea. JoAnn's sells the thread which you can buy for $3 on sale. Amazon had it for $8 so I bought several spools at JoAnn's. I do not have a serger so I will be using the narrow zigzag and also a twin needle. I have seen beautiful silk panties that are sewn with a narrow zigzag.
