TY for using media to teach indigenous aboriginal way...We need more peeps to share with internet media, so 'young' ppl can learn, enrich, & bridge gaps in who/what we are...Respectfully, RosieV~ Blackfoot/Cree Nation...
This was an excellent video and I would like to thank the Producer, director, choreographer, instructor, and dancers for sharing their knowledge and skills. Bravo! I would give you a standing ovation for sure and an applause. :P Over half my family are First Nations, Africans, Asians, Middle-Eastern, Polynesian, or a mixture of European like my daughters. Music, dance, legends, stories, traditions and our respective beliefs are all important to us and an expression of who we are as a family and a People. May the Great Spirit guide you always and Mother Earth keep you safe. :)
I wish you taught how to do spins for fancy dance while moving around the dance arena. I can't seem to keep beat, spin, and keep moving forward with everyone at the same time. I find it hard to do all that at once. I've seen other dancers pull it off but I don't know anyone that lives near me enough to meet and teach me. I can't ask the girls I go with because I taught them to do fancy when I learned. I just haven't mastered the spins. I either trip or lost beat because I can't figure out the best footing. :/
Hi there. Is there a link to the music, or some style of music that's best to use when dancing Double Beat? I want to teach this in Phys. Ed class next month!
Megan Shoemaker Unless you get someone else’s handmade regalia to show off do not buy regalia online. It needs to be handmade. Just copy dress outline from pictures if no one can teach you and find patterns that fit your tribe and also if you want find designs that fit your clan too. Like I’m ojibwe, Shawnee and cherokee. My clans are Marten, Cornstalk and wild potato so I might have the marten outline on the yolk of the dress and then cornstalks at the base of it as if they are growing. For the cherokee I might do a simple seven clans ring in the middle of my shawl and add ojibwe style flower beading around it.
