when your favorite band releases a new album, and you lay on your bed and close your eyes and put it on, and the music sinks into your bones and veins and soul, and you have a complete trip caused by the music, and you open your eyes and you feel like your life just became more meaningful.
Yes, thank you for today. each and every day as we get older we seem to appreciate the little things. Those special days spent by the Sea, and even those dys when we feel poorly we are thankful for what we have, a nice home, and a special pet.
God, this song gives me an overspecific vibe of walking through my neighborhood in mid to late June, looking at all the other kids still in school, and then going to the convenience store to buy a slushie and sitting on a hill later, looking at the sunset.
I shared a clove cigarette with a beautiful girl last weekend, on the high balcony of the Foundation Room, in Vegas. It was a great view and she was a sweet girl. She was from Washington and I'm from Ohio. We were both on vacation, trying to ecscape the cold back home. I ran out of smokes and she had one last clove cig left. I hit it a few times, we talked for awhile and parted ways. The next day, on Venice Beach, I heard this song for the first time. It was almost perfect. Popped up randomly on a Shins playlist. I'll keep that memory with me for a long time and I'll think of it whenever I hear this song. I wish I could remember her name. What a shame......
@@chadkcmo it was super weird. Id never really listened to this band before, and clove cigarettes are disgusting, but when I heard it, it kinda blew my mind lol
This song will forever hold a deep place in my heart. My girl of 4 years left me and we were listening to this song trying to get things right. I guess she couldn’t.... I miss you. I love you. Blessings to everyone going through some rough shit. Keep your head up and be better than you were yesterday, we only get one shot at this....
chin up kid, win some you lose some. in the end we learn from every situation. for all i know this might be the best thing to happen to you. stay positive and keep on striving for perosnal success
CERS i appreciate the encouragement and the positivity my brother it means a lot forreal, just tryin to learn from it like you said come back wiser and better. Much love and positivity your way
randomps3stuff I wish you guys the best because someone you can trust, love, be yourself with and share life with is everything. I’m keeping my head up even on dark days appreciate you brother, much love and positivity your way
Yes , so many influences you can hear in this album. New order, pet shop boys, the cure, rem, even some smashing pumpkins mellon colie moods (but more pleasant voice)
My dad always plays this in his car and I've constantly looked it up. so glad I found it! It's such a well made song and it immediately sticks in your head.
Such a polished album! They walked a perfect line between indie and pop. His revelations and how he expresses them are so profound that it doesn't feel poppy one bit, yet the poppy aspect brings the stuck in your head quality that indie alone wouldn't 😍
When they performed this live in Chicago, I got stood up by my ex. This was our favorite band. This was my birthday gift. I cried in the rain waiting for him. My close friend came and met me for the concert instead. Seeing Ben singing this just made me forget I got stood up. The concert was amazing. This album helped me alot Now, I'm with a man who is always going out his way to make me happy, and he's taking me to see them again ❤
Completely forgot about this band since I listened to "Follow you into the dark" some 10 years ago, because it's not usually my type of music. But i'm in love with this album, and especially this one. Thanks, TH-cam's suggestions !
Just heard this song playing in a store and just fell in love with it. Thanks to Shazam on my phone I found out the title and artist. Never really listened to Death Cab for Cutie but this song definitely has influences of other bands I enjoy so I'm definitely gonna start exploring their catalog starting with this album.
For me I can close my eyes and see myself with the person I love and driving in the Idaho mountains....laughing and watching the world melt into the love I feel through this music.
It’s so crazy how a band can grow with you. I love this song and I still remember listening to Plans back in high school with my cousins in their room.
I dated a lass that lived in a house they used to record in. I had just discovered them around that time. Was a beautiful time to be young and in love, especially with Plans being so fresh back then. Thanks for the great music for all these years, fellas.
I've loved this band ever since I was introduced to "into the dark" by my boyfriend and it became our song because I loved it so much. And still to this day their music makes me feel something I didn't know was possible for me anymore. ❤ I love this song just as much
It harkens to New Years Day by U2 and the early Cure albums. They're such a phenomenal band. I can't say enough good things about Ben Gibbard. He picks up a guitar, opens his mouth and it's just gold.
omggg this was so unexpected for me... this is the first song i've listned to so far, and i'm absolutely in loveee! it's so beautiful! so happy to hear from dcfc again!!
The perfect song for remembering the nights watching a Saskatchewan night sky while I watched from the dock at the lake. You do feel weightless as the stars.
The band that helped me through highschool and the overwhelming teenage angst are now helping me escape the reality of daily work for about 4 minutes. So that's good.
You know when a song provokes a very specific feeling from a very specific part of your life
This song just ... feeds my soul and heals my emotional wounds. I can't quite my finger on it. This is amazing omg
It made me cry when I first heard it.
@@ericthurnbeck7359 me too man, me too . So much feeling
brings back memes of Florida for me, thinking of home while wintering in the south. I will miss that..
we are thankful for today!

This feels like visiting a once hustling a bustling high school hometown after a decade (in the winter time)

next time her her instagram! Sounds awesome. I quit smoking but to this day some of my best memories OF MY LIFE were smoking a cig jamming death cab!!
What is a clove cigarette?
It's a cigarrete made from tobacco and clove. They're not very good.

My dream 😊
a year later and im just now realizing that the clouds move-
i know right me too
I finally found this song. It plays (rarely) at work and was driving me crazy to find it.
This track sounds like REM mixed with The Cure! Excellent.
spot on
I thought I was the only one who heard s lot of Rem in this album,
Yes , so many influences you can hear in this album. New order, pet shop boys, the cure, rem, even some smashing pumpkins mellon colie moods (but more pleasant voice)
THANK YOU! I knew it had an early-90s feel to it but I couldn't place which bands exactly that it reminded me of.
Yeah, with Neil Tennant from the Pet Shop Boys on vocals!
"Northern Lights" debuted at #11 on the New Alternative 40 Chart this week!

Wouldn't it be easier just to ask him?
They have a great 80's vibe without it being contrived .It's so optimistic and life affirming.
80's vibe????? (btw like your screen name )
The Killers did it 10 years ago tho
try the band "drab majesty"..the most recent album.
Best comment in a long time!
And yet it makes me so very sad. Same with The Killers "Shot at the Night."
This song is one of my favorites by Death Cab For Cutie.
Best on the album, this is fantastic.
my toes are sore from your mother
gold rush is barley better but so far my second favorite.
Yes, excellent uplifting music.

Sounds like Death Cab to me
Pretty sure these guys listened to a lot of New Order, too
This song has everything, it's perfect! One of my favorites.

The instrumentals are my favorite part. The combo of the keyboard/piano, guitar, and drums is really calming ❤❤❤
