As a child who had a parent that used to work overseas most of the time, I have to side with Caseoh on this one. Not everyone has the leisure nor disposition to be able to simply request smaller work hours, or "find another job". My father needed to work that way despite how physically and mentally draining it was to go from place to place all over the world. But I do agree that there needs to be a talk between partners if they feel they aren't able to spend enough time for them, it's just the girlfriend's approach about it made it sound as if the main character willingly spent more time on his work like he didn't want to be with her. My mother and father loved each other dearly, regardless of being apart for months and only to be with each other when his employer could see fit for his vacation schedule. He did what he could to give our family the financial support we needed, up until he unfortunately died of a cardiac arrest. So to anyone reading this and facing the same situation as my parents' relationship did back then, just know that so long as you understand each other and cherish the time spent together, albeit little, your love will last. Honestly his initial take about that relationship isn't wrong at all, it's a pretty realistic outlook in terms of compatibility. At that point the relationship is a deadend because they are not seeing eye-to-eye; he doesn't want to compromise on work and she wants him to magically make up time. I've heard of relationships that do work with a lot of work life involved, eg literally anyone with a medical degree who is married. I think the way he just conveyed it was really aggresive and his point of "ignore it and it'll go away" is not a good way to go about things, it is very dismissive and cold, I'm going to assume he meant cutting off the relationship.

like, i straight up lost my job for requesting too much time off... im disabled, i have migraines often and joint pain, as well as mental inconsistency that is awaiting diagnosis. Our small company got bought out by a massive coporation & said they wouldn't hold our former call-outs and time off requests against us w their attendance policy. turned around and counted former instances against us anyways. they said "yeahh, but policy says u only get 5 call outs a year and you've called out a lot" had a mental lapse and lost my job after. anyway, screw Medtronic
Considering I took 3 weeks off and three other coworkers took a month off all this year, yeah, it depends on the job on easily you can take time off. Also not talking about an issue is toxic as well. It's so annoying dealing with those people.
Even if it's lose-lose situation, I still think communicating is a key, there's no knowing if she'll understand or not and best way to resolve this type of problems is assurance. However, maybe in some cases in relationship, CaseOh might be right and could work temporarily, especially if your partner is quite obnoxious about the problem, but if they're willing to communicate even through complaint, maybe they'll understand and you could end the relationship peacefully or if they stays then problem solve. im disabled, i have migraines often and joint pain, as well as mental inconsistency that is awaiting diagnosis.
Our small company got bought out by a massive coporation & said they wouldn't hold our former call-outs and time off requests against us w their attendance policy.
turned around and counted former instances against us anyways.
they said "yeahh, but policy says u only get 5 call outs a year and you've called out a lot"
had a mental lapse and lost my job after.
