    At MWAVE 2023 they had a Room Correction blind test test with the MP40, AV10, Storm ISP?, and AVM90. They used an active matrix switcher to do on the fly switching.
    My ranking was Dirac + ART by a mile. I had him disable ART because it was so obvious. I had a 100% pick rate between Dirac and Audyssey as first and last, but Room Perfect and ARC sounded the same. We used movies and music, and he had tried to calibrate them to the exact same curve. With that said, the spread was fairly small, and I’m not sure if you’d even hear the differences if you weren’t AB switching. He did say ARC was having a terrible time calibrating in that big room, so it was harder to work with.
    1. Dirac
    2. RoomPerfect/ARC
    3. Audyssey.

      Did whoever do this use the Audyssey Pc software and disable the presence notch? That tends to be a dead giveaway with speakers that don’t need it.
      ARC is a very simplistic correction compared to the others. Relying far more on IIR. It’s not really a true mixed phase correction system. Sometimes simple is better, but a room is a mixed phase problem. So arguably needs a mixed phase solution.

      Such a shame that the Trinnov was not part of the shootout. Thanks for info about it. Never heard about room like that in my numerous readings about the show.

    Lyngdorf's Room Perfect sounds great. I've owned several Lyngdorf products and have friends that have Lyngdorf products in their systems, too. Peter Lyngdorf was a pioneer in bringing the first really good room correction systems to market over a quarter a century ago. That said multi-speaker multichannel Dirac ART MIMO will be better.

    I personally don't think the person asking the question would be happy if the Yamaha is tuned to their liking and they "upgraded" to the Lyngdorf.
    The worst room auto correction i've run in to was emoQ, best just to set your levels by hand and never use it. I still have a bug free UMC-1, disconnected collecting dust, ironically replaced by a Yamaha A4A pre-outs going to an amp. It did take some work to get my Yamaha tuned just right but not as much as i expected. Would it have be a lot easier with a better room correction system 100% yes!

    When you were saying that the place that has Lyngdorf setup and other rooms with Trinnov you also almost said StormAudio :).
    Do they also have Storm system for comparison. Would be interesting to hear any that head to head.

    Curious myself. I’ve always heard positive opinions about Room Perfect.

    What about their PEQs is bad specifically? Just that they're limited to specific frequencies? As far as mainstream AVR manufacturers go they are the only ones who offer actual parametric eq vs a limited 7 band graphic eq right?

    • @PoesAcoustics
      @PoesAcoustics  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They limit the bands and Q. So the problem is that the utility of PEQ is that you can set the Q, frequency, and level to precisely match the shape of a peak in the response. What has happened to me when using Yamaha is that the EQ frequency usually misses the peak by just enough to instead hit a dip. Or the Q is off by just enough to be too wide for the problem, but going narrower makes it too narrow. This causes the end result to be not all that good. Sure it’s better than nothing. But not a lot better. Often the Auto EQ like Audyssey or Dirac were more effective than kludging something together in the Yamaha menu.

    I have only heard Lyngdorf in a CEDIA demo (the Christie Eclipse demo), and I wasn't blown away by the Lyngdorf. It could have been a setup issue or speaker issue, but it really sounded pretty bad compared to other rooms I've heard. If you're looking to upgrade your Yamaha, consider a Marantz AV10 with Dirac Live.

    I would go with Onkyo + Dirac Live :)

    I love Yamaha’s 7-band PEQ. Can’t believe you don’t mat 😅

    • @PoesAcoustics
      @PoesAcoustics  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry man! It’s just not that flexible. The limited frequencies and Q are the main issues. I found it very frustrating the few times I was forced to use it. I just couldn’t find a band and Q that would resolve the problem. In one particular situation, the frequency bands were spaced such that they only could make the problem worse, not better. I ended up using REW to simulate the results and played around with the Yamaha limitations until I found an acceptable set.
      The other thing I don’t like is that I normally am going to want a lot more PEQ in the bass. In fact, ideally I would want the PEQ to be mostly below 500hz with more resolution at the lower frequencies. But unfortunately I don’t get that. Further, they don’t have a low enough band to get rid of a peak at the rooms 1st mode and I find that can cause droning.

    Hey, I have sent you direct email message regarding some consulting work and have not received a response.
    Have you decided to move away from that line of work?

      Hi Brandon, and anyone else who is waiting on a response. Apologies for my slow response. Your email came in while I was preparing for a vacation for the 4th to my parents place. I was trying to get existing projects into a good place before I left. I had a number of fires to put out and unfortunately a number of things were not completed properly. I know I owed you a response along with a few others.
      If anyone else is waiting on a response, feel free to email me again and I’ll likely see it and respond at this point. The last few weeks were a bit hectic for me.
