Except there is actual research on young people who are considered gifted early on in life. The vast majority make no significant contributions in life outside of the norm. By 25 they are no further along than their peers but many are severely psychologically damaged as they did not get to be children and were thrust into adulthood left needlessly. I hold three degrees including a doctorate and I could not imagine anything worst than a 9 year old sitting in a college classroom and being in that environment vs with other 9 year olds as education is not limited to books. Research emotional intelligence!

From what I'm getting, he's refuting the idea that energy cannot be created or destroyed. The problem with that is the fact that scientists believe the universe is constantly expanding. And in order to do that you have to create new matter which requires energy. HOW would you create new matter if energy cannot be created? When you think about it, he's actually right.

The reason the father answered for his son David at 6:13 to thank Neil DeGrasse Tyson is because Dad knows his son's patterns. Once the hosts insisted on hearing David's view on meeting Neil, David took the convo into another direction (The "Big Bang" Theory)--something Dad already knew was going to happen. This proved once again that parents tend to know their children better than most other people ever will.

He told a similar story about when he was in high school & had an interest in Astrophysics. One day he met Carl Sagan his idol, a famous Astrophysicist who had a TV Series "Cosmos", who invited NDT to visit him at Cornell University . The rest is history.
So Dr. NDT inviting David to his podcast may encourage this prodigy to a successful path.

I have seen nerdy kids ask intelligent questions from age 5 or 6 onwards. Of course, at 9, this kid is a phenomenon. The thing that impressed me is not the subject of the question that he asked, but the attitude he has - "so what's the big deal, I graduated, nothing special" and "I have a hypothesis about the creation of the universe". It's almost as if he was a cosmologist in a past life or something. There is no hesitation in talking to a "famous scientist", there is no hesitation in proposing a new hypothesis that goes against the existing theory, there is no "I am special" feeling, just matter-of-fact focus on the subject being discussed. His momentary loss of vocabulary is telling (he's 9, you don't expect him to be able to say too many big words with intent), maybe it relates to the fact that his parents said that they don't use big words to explain concepts. However, it is quite clear that he is ready in the scientific process of proposing theories, arguing his side and moving past distractions like being on TV, or the celebrity status of the person he is talking to. His parents downloaded a ready to use scientist package 🙂

Neat. I'm so proud to see and hear you as parents said positive things to your son, and didn't smoother his learning when he asked questions, of what some call "the terrible twos" of discovering, by asking questions on top of question, being inquisitive/ inquiring to know. God Bless You! I'm proud for you young man. Keep forging. forward.

@budgiecat2885 you have to back up what you say. That's my "what". you didn't do that. It ain't up to me friend! People show nervousness in different ways. This kid was nervous. Smart kids generally don't have a normal childhood and their actions can be quirky. My suggestion is the list details on the NDT side. What about Neil's answer backs up what you're saying and maybe I can understand. (I'm genuinely interested...)
