I got this ssd but didn’t realize it’s Dram-less and QLC but I’m gonna use it as a game/storage drive for my laptop since I mostly use it as a read drive, l stress test it and didn’t find any issues, also it’s a good drive and I like it :)
is it good for a long term? to use with important data.. they are cheaper than wd black, samsung pro, but this speed is good enough for me. i only worry with durability
Thanks for the heads up I just bought this Crucial P3 Plus 4TB m.2 SSD drive after having a 8TB enterprise drive start to fail wiich had only 2.3TB on it As a storage drive it's perfect no use no wear should last a decade fingers xx
@@mashextra Hi, I am also very interested in a test when it's 90 % full and even just above 60 % full as it seems that this is from where this nvme starts getting progressively slower.
Thank you mate. I also bought the sn850x hoping it would be single sided but alas it isn't :( there is only 1 chip and some circuitry but it will be a struggle to fit in many slots. I will do a video on it soon
Surprisingly it does fit the m18! I made a video on it: Alienware M18 & M16 - 10TB of SSDs and 64GB RAM Upgrade th-cam.com/video/SULtYlteUqk/w-d-xo.html
So I was looking for this kind of product for my laptop, but im not very good at this so im not sure if this will fit on my msi pulse 17. Can anyone confirm? I tried to search for it but all og it sounds like gibberish to me. And just to know is this a good option for gaming?
I don't understand this because I did this with one large file and it didn't drop that much speed. th-cam.com/video/s0dqCPno9a4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=7ZgU-Yqg_mi1vlu0
@@HelduikerJon You need a sequential read speed of 5,500 MB/s or faster, it should also include a heatsink for proper heat dissipation. Thus to run on a PS5, an SSD needs to have a minimum of a PCIe Gen 4 x4 M.2 NVMe interface, a capacity of at least 250GB
If you order the Alienware m18/16 with two SSD’s do they provide a heat sync for the extra drive? They probably do but I know they don’t offer any extra heat syncs if you only order the one drive
Yes they do. They provide heatsinks for all drives you order. Its sad they don't just give you the heatsinks for all the slot as it would cost them pennies
I don't remember telling you this on last video, but Sabrent has a couple of 4TB ssd but are "SUPER," expensive, and yet not disclose if its one sided or two >.< . I need to dig deeper to find out.
Lexar wasn’t released when I got this. I have it now though and just started testing. Where is the western digital single sided 4tb? The sn850x has chips on the back
@@mashextra Ok, because you said something about heavy usage problems and gaming is actually heavy usage, but ok, I will invest money in this one, thanks! :)
I don't quite understand how the cache works but I tried copying a single large file and it didn't drop that much write speed. The drive was at 50% capacity with overprovision. Also upto date firmware. th-cam.com/video/s0dqCPno9a4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=7ZgU-Yqg_mi1vlu0
how large was the file? if you copy say 50-100gb you should get amazing speeds for say the first few GBs then as the cache is filled and it writes direct to the slower NAND the speeds drop significantly. But unless you are copying stupidly large files you would probably never come across this in day to day use
Thank you so much! I need lots of fast internal space for astrophotography processing and now i found the perfect solution!
You answered the questions Amazon and three other youtubers didn't 👍

Unfortunately, most are dramless………but they will use a portion of your ram as a cache. I agree with the QLC. That’s unfortunate.
I figured it would be a great game/data storage drive. Good price! (since I just bought one today) Thanks Mash for the review!

I wish at least one reviewer would show the read performance of this drive when it is 90% full.
I have just started filling mine with my steam library. When I get near 90% I will retest and let you know

What do you think about using for PS5?
Great review. The Silicon Power 4TB UD90 looks also like single sided, is it not?
Thanks, useful as always!
by the way, I think the WD_Black SN850X is single-sided too and has a better performance. did you try it?

Thanks I brought one, can I check if you have installed on your Blade 16
sorry for the delay, I had a few days off! Yes, I have mine installed on my blade 16 in the secondary slot, it is used to store all my games :)

As long as the screw is the correct size, that’s great. If not……….captan tape.
The endurance is rather low at 800 TBW, compared to 1200 TBW that even Samsung 2TB drives have.
