    This whole time I was wondering why companies didn't just put a little bit of polyethylene in the front to help hold the ceramic together...
    Ngl this peaks my interest as abdominal armor. Somewhat light, flexible, and has decent protection.

    That dissection makes me more I terested in this armor. It's not the overlapping scales like dragonskin that let's angled shots make it through the plates. Only thing I can suggest it measuring weight and strike face dimensions and comparing them to advertised specs. That would help out a lot

  • @allanbain7930

    The biggest problem with that 10 x 12 flex plate is if you notice it's only 8.8" x 11" with a shooters cut. 87 Square Inches, and what are they charging for one of these flex plates 499.95? Alumina Oxide the cheapest ceramic i the world, and last generation uncured HB50 which is the same price here in the states as it is in Italy. It's not expensive and it seems that SLD has grossly misrepresented the size? If you get one measure the edge of the ceramic to the edge of the ceramic.

    • @bobbygetsbanned6049
      @bobbygetsbanned6049 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the size of the plates was not impressive. Apparently they never though of cutting/forming any of the octagons to fit the edges and instead decided to put nothing!?

    I'd imagine a nice quality Dyneema/Spectra/UHMWPE IIIA backer would pair well with it to combat that nasty BFD. You'd have a very comfortable & questionably slick plate setup to move around in. But at that price, I'd rather be running IV ceramic plates at a similar/slightly-higher weight.

    • @hansgruber9685
      @hansgruber9685 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Same here. You could just incorporate some soft 3A panels into your $300 level 4 rig (covering your sides and stomach) and be MUCH more effective in most scenarios.

  • @kasper_429
    @kasper_429 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Hey Buffman, just an idea: Can you get another one of these panels and test a fresh one standalone with your usual lineup of guns/calibers? I'd like to see what a fresh one could do against unrated calibers like .308/M80 and up, just for science :D. Lol.
    It'd probably go through if you use the long guns, but since it stopped M855A1, the usual armor killer, (albeit out of an SBR and not the 22" barrel, but it was compromised armor by that point anyway) I think it would get interesting.

    Can you confirm that FRAS with level 3a can stop M855A1 EPR consistently? Was that a 1 time lucky stop or can it stop it multiple times? What about the 5.56 AP round? I forget the name M933 m955? or whatever. Can those 2 armors combined stop it consistently?
    Because if that's true that makes those 2 combo a real winner for regular wear! due to movability and light weight!

    • @BuffRANGE
      @BuffRANGE  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You will need an NIJ level IV plate to stop M995. Consistently stop M855A1, I would need to test the panel again. They have a new III+ standalone which would have pretty much the same strike face, but with more backing material. Maybe If I can get one from them I'll test more A1 at it.

      @@BuffRANGE my apologies when I made that comment I misunderstood what rounds you were using.
      I thought you only shot 1 m855a1. You actually shot about 5 rounds and all were stopped minus the 1 that was on the very edge.
      That one on edge that went through. Did you have the level 3a vest on at that time or did you not have the vest behind it for that last m855a1 shot? The video is a little unclear.
      Again my apologies the original set of m855a1s that got stopped with level 3a vest on I thought were m855 green tip when I first watched.
      So the FRAS with level 3a can overall stop m855a1 epr. I find that utterly amazing 👏 😍

      @@BuffRANGE that level 3+ you mentioned is that still flexible or is that a solid plate?
      BTW per my other comment, you should definitely try shooting these flexible plates at an angle. Thats was one reason dragon scale/skin (whatever it was called) did not pass the military testing. Angle shots would go through the armor. So in urban environments or prone bullets are likely to slip through.
      The other issue was gas or diesel or some other liquid would cause the vest to fall apart. Now not an issue for most people but was a disqualify issue for military.
      Dragon skin was a hot topic when I was in and ita disqualifying issues made a lot of people sad lol
