Sorry for the poor advice (I hope this video isn't my fault,) I didn't realise the op wanted to store a backup for 20+ years. For that I'd consider using cassettes. Note: The UK data archive recommends to store at least two separate copies and to renew those copies every 2 to 5 years (to switch to new media etc.) They make no preference of media, yet IIRC, casestte backups last the longest.
The best solution for data archival is LTO tape storage and that is what's actually used in the industry, even by the public cloud providers that offer cool and archive storage tiers. Just the good old tape libraries.
Such a cool video! I'm excited about the new series too. In that series, could you by any chance go into detail about how you set up the Raspberry Pi? I didn't even know you could install a screen on the Raspberry Pi. Wow
Not sure how deep into the Raspberry Pi rabbit hole the episode will go, but I will share a lot more details. Might put together a deep dive episode... thanks for feedback. 🤓
Hello, Does an storage external HHD only powered up every 6 months have to be refreshed to another HHD every 3 to 5 years to prevent data loss? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Hey Sun! Thanks for all the great, useful content. I just wanted to ask your thoughts on the My Sudo app as a potential aliasing tool. I would love to know your expert opinion on the service!
Trying to figure out the best “channel” to answer this question… but short story is I am very thankful for your feedback (you guys really helped me out here), but agree “main” channel is perhaps not the right place for this kind of content.
For large amounts, an easy and effective option is just to buy 3+ hard drives and keep at least 2 redundant copies, with at least one in a different location to cover fire/theft. For windows users SyncToy is an option to update backups of folders that have been changed. Every year or two run some hard drive error checking software. If any drive starts to go bad, replace it.
You'd be lucky if your pendrive (usb flash memory stick?) lasted ten years, especially if it goes a long time without being powered. I just tested a Verbatim usb stick (flash memory) that I bought about 5 years ago which gave some errors, so I simply threw it away (nothing worth recovering.) Not to bag on Verbatim; I doubt there's much difference across the brands for these cheap off-the-shelf ones.
Hi Sun, pls make a video about apple icloud privacy relay. (after u test it of coz) Is it worth paying 1$ a month or are there better alternatives that works similarly for no money?
This RPi QR system is probably the best solution I've found for paper backups. Looking forward to the BTC series :)
wow, you are the first youtuber who publish a video so fast for my problem, thank you !
Pleasure, that one is for you!
As a privacy & security paranoid, I'm really excited to your bitcoin series.
You look happy, excited, fresh and back to your goal! Wishing you all the best.
Would love it if you made a privacy course, teaching us everything step by step. Would be down to pay if it is reasonably priced.
Thanks for feedback. What do you consider “reasonably priced”? It would really help me understand the feasibility of project.
@@sunknudsen you could make a few courses and charge 30-50 dollars for each course?

I agree with this notion but the price is out of reach for home users
Using non technical methods to improve security in the digital world is so interesting. Sometimes analog is the best approach.
man the paper backups blew my mind
Have you watched th-cam.com/video/2Em7jpxRrrk/w-d-xo.html

Can you do a video on practical use of shamir secret sharing?
Great video Sun. Ummm I have a question, what do you think about pCloud service. Do you recommend ?
Hi Sun, great video. I would like to know what are your thoughts on the new M1 macs and the Big sur?
Good luck for the future fam God bless you
Just what i needed to know!
Thanks man!
A similar system like the RPI QR in a Tails Key would be great.
Great video! Thank you 💛
Hi,have you considered buying a case for that raspberry pi?

not sure if that is still an issue but you should probably export your videos with bigger bitrate. This video feels a bit blocky
Looking forward to the bitcoin series. Great work, Sun
So can rsync copy files even if the usb key isnt plugged in? Or do you plug it in and edit everything and it makes a mirror copy?
Sun, there’s a way to encrypt and decrypt text with Gnupg, without creating an .asc file ?
An laptop/computer harddrive has been an good option for me, but definitely not the long term you're talking about
What does L1 and L2 on the thumbnails mean?
Level 1,2,3 i think. it might be correlated with the complexity.
Spot on!
@@sunknudsen subtle and functional. love it
why did Sun post the video "fitting the box" and delete it afterwards?

3:42 geo dispersed sounded like jail dispersed.
dude what's your keyboard? that small one
If we have Movies, Videos and Music collection, can't we save them on Pendrives for longer time say 10 years or so?

Give each drive a label cause they all look the same! (Although internal drives should have a visible serial number.)
