In this video, I discuss overall situation at present along Kolkata - Siliguri route. I also share some tips & tricks to make this journey a bit easier.
Kolkata to Siliguri route is considered to be the lifeline highway route for the state of West Bengal. The suggested route here involves old Delhi Road ( SH-13 ), Belgharia Expressway, Kalyani Expressway, Sodepur Road, NH-12 (old NH-34) and NH-27 (old NH-31).

Thank you Golam Da for this update. I do not know if it is our bad luck or the the NH 34(NH 12) is cursed. Event after 3 years of posting the original video , we still talking about all these alternate routes. While some new roads are being built, the existing roads are getting deteriorated rapidly , at the same time tolls getting higher. It is still taking 15+ hrs. to drive 600 KM. Dalkhola -Islampur is just horrible. Islampur onwards is just bad. Baharampur - Raiganj is getting bad every day. I do not think it will not happen in our lifetime when we can travel 600 KM in just reasonable time.
Baharampur Raiganj stretch just a four lane to earn money. Not many overpasses, the road goes through many busy markets nd the surface is unevenly paved/patched on many stretches
Thanks. I agree with the sentiment. In fact, two weeks ago, I visited our Malda home and first thing I did after reaching there, is to file a formal Public Grievance complaint with the ministry (MoRTH) for poor maintenance of Baharampore - Farakka toll road section, along with photographs of potholes.
Just 2 days back, I have now received an official response from PIU Malda, NHAI. Both NHAI and HCC/Cube have acknowledged that recently some potholes have formed in this section and they have started mobilizing man-n-machinery to get them repaired.
If you have some current photographs (or dashcam snaps) for Dalkhola - Islampur section then you may consider filing a formal complaint online ( pgportal.gov.in/ ). Thankfully, our minister Mr. Gadkari is very pro-active and all PG complaints are promptly responded.

As someone working on this project. I can assure you that this section of Behrampur to Raiganj will be one of the best sections of the NH34 very soon. Farakka to Raiganj section has been recently overhauled and only few parts are damaged due to extraordinarily high rains. The same is the case with the Behrampur Farakka section it will soon be overhauled and you will see the difference in a few months time. Regarding the flyovers and underpasses and toll rates. It is true that it is very less. But it has been built as per design by NHAI, also you pay more with each new structure being built. So if many more flyovers, bypasses are built the toll rates will go much higher.

Wanted to go from Kolkata to Lalbagh
Not only nh-34 is cursed, it is the only highway in the world with so many road barriers to control speed even though the average distance covered per hour is the lowest. Nh34 represents real speed of how development takes place in west bengal.

আমি একদম এই রুটেই ২সপ্তাহ আগে শিলিগুড়ি গেছিলাম । গলায় দড়ি বটতলায় একটা বাজে রেল ক্রসিং আছে, ছোট গাড়ির একটু অসুবিধা হয় বৃষ্টির সময় । খুব ইনফরমেটিভ ভিডিও

Very good content as usual. I did a quick trip to siliguri by bus on 13th October and here are some high/low lights.
1- Very heavy traffic at maniktala, ultadanga and airport. it took nearly 3 hours to cross barasat from esplanade.
2- Avoid amdanga to awalsiddhi at any cost. Its an embarrassment to call that stretch a national highway.
3- barajaguli to krishnanagar is pretty doable with some bad patches near chakdah and ranaghat.
4- Although krishnanagar-berhampore is not entirely 4 laned the surface is pretty smooth now. No construction work witnessed in this stretch.
5- The surface from Berhampore to morgram has worn out drastically. Cautious driving recommended for 4 wheelers.
6- No issues from morgram to dalkhola barring the incomplete raiganj stretch. However, mild fog was encountered after karandighi.
7- Avoid tea break at BP apna ghar dalkhola, its more of a hot water.
8- Another embarrassement is the stretch between kishangaj-islampur. Lunar craters wide enough to swallow a 4 wheeler quite easily. I do wish the nhai authorities take a ride in that stretch asap.
9- Road from islampur onwards is still no good due to lack of maintenance. I wonder if going via bahadurganj might be a feasible option instead?
Just travelled yesterday, Dalkhola onwards is just pathetic , they are collecting hefty tolls however the road is just horrible. Even the entire stretch between Baharampur and Raiganj is full of huge pot holes.
Please refuse to pay tolls when the highway is not in a good condition. Supreme Court has issued ruling on this. Only when more people stop paying tolls, will they wake up.

I am a biker from Mumbai I went Mumbai Indore Jhansi Lucknow Kushinagar Araria Siliguri i did not encounter a single pot hole till the areaa near islampur ...but now due to fog inwas trying to via Kolkata but reading rhe comments i am scared but i greatly appreciate you video
Hi, don't worry. This video as well as the comments are from October, just after the monsoon season here. After that all sections have gone through some repairing. So things are vastly improved now. Only advisory at present is regarding traffic jam at Ranaghat due to the ongoing Railway bridge construction. Please see the description in this video. I am planning to go siliguri from sodepur by early next week.
You provided lots of options, but no conclusive recommendations to follow , what I expected from this content.
Hence, I decided to go via old Delhi road and STKK road.
Barajaguli to kacharapara road also under construction nowadays.

নিমতা থেকে সোদপুর এ কাজ একটু পিছিয়ে আছে। তবে সোদপুর থেকে কাঁপা বেশির ভাগই ভাল, শুধু ফ্লাইওভার জোড়ার কাজ বাকি।

Very nice detailed vedio, however, road conditions should have changed in last 2 months, if you can please suggest the best route that we can take now. I am traveling to Assam VIA siliguri with my family, likely by end of Dec 2023 and will be driving in night, so need your suggestion please. Also, how will be the fog condition?
Thanks. As far fog is concerned, you will definitely encounter fog in end Dec specially in the morning. Sometime it can be quite intense. In that case, you should have some long tea break! The suggested route remains the same as of now. Please look at Google Maps direction in the description of this video. Unfortunately, in last few weeks, situation at Ranaghat Railway bridge construction site is causing some traffic jam, specially afternoon onward. Best wishes.

Actually, the work is stopped there, as the compensation-amount dispute between the land owners and NHAI, is in court. However, recently in Murshidabad district those land issues (Bhabta, Beldanga, Chetiani..) have been resolved, as court has increased the land compensation. Debagram land problem is still pending.

@@wandererRk If you don't mind a bit longer drive then you can take old Delhi road from Kalyani More then take Kona expressway/Maa flyover. The surface would be good mostly.

Ranaghat theke Krishnanagar ekhon Fulia, Gobindapur hoye e jaoa best (almost fully 4-lane). Ar Gobndrapur rail-gate avoid korai ekta shortcut ei video te bola ache. Best wishes.

একটি প্রশ্ন ছিল, ডালখোলার বদলে পুরানো বোতল বাড়ি(সম্ভবত এটিই রাস্তাটির নাম) দিয়ে বাইকে ইসলামপুর যাওয়া কি আরামদায়ক বা সময়ের দিক দিয়ে ঠিক হবে।
না যাওয়াই ভালো।
ডালখোলা হয়ে পুরো রাস্তাটাই ভালো চার লেন
বোতলবারি রাস্তা খুব খারাপ
