Idk, they haven't even said anything about what type of additives they are using. Is it plastic or glue or... what is it? As a customer I'd really like to know what exactly I'm buying.
After seeing countless cases of animal abuse in leather, wool, fur, industries, im now switching to vegan fashion. Im glad there’s leather alternative like this. Hope it’s going to be a mainstream fashion soon so it will be more available to a wider consumer base.
It's not that environment friendly as you think. They have to add a lot of additives including resin (plastic) to bond it together and feels like leather. You can't really recycle resin, it's toxic and a petroleum-based product.
I buy small handbag vegan leather from TJ Max for $15, so beautiful, can not complain any things with the price. They have so many beautiful handbags real leather ( cow’s leather) but very expensive ( over $150) But I am so happy with my vegan leather handbag. That OK if it’s not last long .Try one Friend.
I don't think the final product is really environmental friendly since the process turning tons of mangos into vegan leather is somehow unclear with what makes the rain coating and what chemicals make the additive. The mango waste itself is totally green waste and environmental friendly. It's just about money from turning free raw material into profitable products to be on the shelf with high-priced tag leather products. It will show their true intention when they have to buy mangos as a raw material. With more advance equipments and better management, mango importers won't make enough waste for their production anymore. They will have to do something then. If they can produce less expensive real leather from such cow skin without impacting the environment, that would the best. Cow skin is valuable and versatile byproduct waste from making beef. Keep in mind, the amount of cow skin produced is equivalent to the amount of beef people consume.
What kind of chemicals do you mix with it? I'm wanting to make some vegan leather myself. I use a lot of animal hides to connect with the animal spirits. Thing is, there's this tree I need to connect to, but I can't exactly tan a tree's hide. This'll help me a lot! Thanks!
@@TuriGamer Polymers are not all garbage, just as carbohydrates aren't all sugars. They're complex chains of organic compounds that have drastically changed how far we can go as humans!
Instead of tanning a tree why don’t you use the tree bark to tan leather. That’s what vegetable tanned leather is. They use tree bark to tan leather since it has a lot of tannins.
my last leather jacket last for three years. And may be it suffered a little bit burning or chopping from other unknown bad guys, it still not eco friendly and durable enough for the price i had paid. Just only 20 $. I think a better eco friendly one with higher price like 35-50$ and last for 5-10 years still awesome choices than old plastic leather with short time value.
Even Hermes leather is cheaper than $22 sq ft. I’m all for making use of waste but a product that costs a lot more than real leather and only as durable as PU leather isn’t that great. Seems the mango pulp is just filler and their additives are just another resin/plastic holding it all together. You could probably make the leather from cow poop if you wanted to.
Increase size to lower cost of production. have large trays made and a large hydrator to make larger sheets. also mecanize all the proceses you can to lower costs. like putting the frut by hand on the machine that will remove the seeds. that can be automated something like an arquimedes screw of those transportation bands. Im sure that industry like this will get goverment and private funding to make a larger product. The leather industry will complain all it wishes, but really what are they afraid of? This is NOT leather and wont have the durability of leather. the advantage. it grows on trees, wont put out high emissions, cheaper than raisig cattle.
great we can cause even more damage than we already caused producing plastic by turning the plastic back into some form of oil and then causing even more harm by then burning that fuel in cars! 😀
Nothing beats a good real leather which lasts for lifetime. Also seems like these so called mango leather and the cactus leather etc go through a lot of heating and chemical works so that doesn't sound good.
You should've told us what the additives are, that's why we even clicked on this video, to find out if it's truly eco friendly or if they're just mixing plastic in it The rest of the process I could've guessed on my own
its ironic that their "secret compound" is almost certainly plastic. Cows that are being put down for meat also produce leather as byproduct. But noooo, plastic is better smh
synthetic leather is most often made using similar methods for sheet vinyl production, just get some sheet vinyl flooring from lowe's and stitch it into a wallet lol lol
It's almost certainly some sort of resin/rubber/polymer which could be natural (out of trees). The biggest plastic waste that couldn't be properly disposed (seems to be) are auto tires, so you'd better focus on them.
Plastic isn't an alive being, so there's no harming, and plastic can survive hundreds of years so it's is way better and humanitarian using it instead of cows
Such a great idea..you are doing a great job ..and I'm very happy after watching this kind of vegan leather because lot's of animals are only killed for the leather😢
$22/sqft??? That’s insane. As a maker of leather goods, that not feasible at all. And, they admit it not very durable. So… while I appreciate their ideas and innovation, the amounts currently to little more than and experiment or novelty. It’s not a viable alternative to real leather.

As I do hope beef production will lessen over the years, I wouldn’t want to make their deaths in vain. But this vegan leather is just the beginning to a new world.
The production process of most vegan leather (PU) is not environmentally friendly, and can actually be toxic to wear. The products don't last as long as real leather which ends up in the landfill sooner taking longer to decompose. One top of that a lot of vegan leather products cost just as much as real leather, which I consider to be a rip off .
We should rather work on reducing all that food waste to a minimum... Many of those mangos shown in the video still looked good. But the gustomer is picky af
So chemicals and plastic are added in anyway, it still lacks the robust qualities of leather either way. Starts peeling off like flakes in less than a year.
It's always the same - lets create something that looks like something we hate. Lets use petroleum based product to make it last, but even that isn't enough so we need to find additional petroleum based product or chemicals to make it last longer, but still it won't be as versatile, long lasting or as easy to produce, particularly as the real thing is a far more cost efficient - then we will all 'feel' we are doing the 'right thing' - OMG, save us from these people and their zealots who will stand on their platforms of righteousness
I love good leather. I hate bad leather. Low quality leather is a bane on ur existence. Get rid of it and replace it with this sort of stuff. Then concentrate on proper, veg-tanned, full-grain leather as a luxury product.
That's PU. This isn't PU. It is made of eco friendly thing like Mango. Vegan Leather is now being made of Mango pulp, coconut skin, Mushtoom, flower waste etc. Real leather is not only cruel, the tan process is extremely toxic, so much so that it can give people cancer and it polutes water as well. Vegan eco friendly leather has also solved this issue.
@@idk7058 No, I did research because I care. Proving a point is not my Forte but I prefer to give right information to the uninformed and ignorant ones.
What are the additives? Also how does it wear and break in? What’s the protective glaze?
plastics
Lol, they can use any fruit and then add the "additives" + "coat" it in polymers... It's basically a scam for the gullible
I was skeptical when I started watching and then I appreciated the product. Very interesting, I am impressed by the final example.
what additives do you add?

@halloooo1duuuuu right! Is the resin what is stopping the fruit from decomposing?
and the resin
may or may not be
biodegradable
It’s probably a plant based resin.
It's just PU or PVC with a vegetable filler. Nothing different than normal plastic.@@halloooo1duuuuu
How much rainforest was destroyed for mango plantations?
what are the additives?
Can we use these procedures for cactus leather?
Fruit leather has been around for ages, I used to eat it as a kid.
In mexico they make clothing out of cactus leather.
Cactus skin and mango skin are very different. Don't need me to tell you how? No comparison whatsoever 🙄
12% food waste is awesome. It’s 40% in the US. Very cool video!

hello business insider. I am a student and we need to make a content for our video. your video really inspire us . can we use your clip.
Love from india ❤❤
This is so different than the one i made on the basement
Turning mangoes into leather? That’s *a-peeling*! Would you rock a jacket made from your favorite fruit? 🥭👕
Wow...... I Wish To Use This 😍
You stretching it fam. So how long will this shoes last? 2 months? 🙄
Great idea 💡
It seems to be mostly plastic/resin.
Half of those mangoes look good.
Vengan but not green. Mangos use way to much water and fuel to get to the Netherlands
At least they're trying
At least they are leaving animals
@@jaisinghrajpurohit4003 and try to use less plastic cause a majority of vegan leather currently out there are made of plastic
Goodbye animal skin... But Hello Vegan Leather 😀👏
No to Vegan Leather
Nothing can replace the Gold..
So real leather 😃😃😃👍🏻

Lmaooo okay. Good luck using it in a vehicle and having the seats disintegrate after a year or two.
calling this shit leather is a crime
It's not that environment friendly as you think. They have to add a lot of additives including resin (plastic) to bond it together and feels like leather. You can't really recycle resin, it's toxic and a petroleum-based product.
Isn’t most vegan leather just plastics
Mangoes are made for Eating and not to be made bags. Use a cloth cotton bag instead.
Can you make hand pump Wells with this leather?
I hope so it breaks my heart to think that hand pump Wells might contaminate vegans water
As I do hope beef production will lessen over the years, I wouldn’t want to make their deaths in vain. But this vegan leather is just the beginning to a new world.
This leather is plastic and environmental hazard. Sigh
Yatta yatta yatta. All not true!
thanks
Now I get why Tom ate his shoe
all these mangos could have feed thousands of pigs that would contribute to the production of crunchy bacon, ribs, carnitas and much more :)
Kombucha leather doesnt use additives
Whats wrong with the mangoes? They look perfect to me
We should rather work on reducing all that food waste to a minimum... Many of those mangos shown in the video still looked good. But the gustomer is picky af
I think Mango brand can take initiative to claim their leather jackets are made from Mangoes😊
very cool :)
It's basically dehydrated pectin films
Those mangoes could be used as food.
When your hungry eat your jacket
So chemicals and plastic are added in anyway, it still lacks the robust qualities of leather either way. Starts peeling off like flakes in less than a year.
Bro what additives did you put? hahaha
Those mango are still edible.
I love mangoes and my tesla seats are vegan leathers no killing of innocent animals
400 billion dollars !!! Just think how much cruelty is involved in that 😢
. . Says the animal flesh/meat eaters 😏 it'll appear wise for humanity to consider plant-based alternatives. #PeaceLoveandLight
None? The cattle is mainly kept for food. Leather is a side hustle.
Should have been made for fruit leather that you can eat. Thumbs down.
Then concentrate on proper, veg-tanned, full-grain leather as a luxury product.
why call it leather? why not like, mangoline or something?
same with vegetarian meat...
Vegan Leather: ❌
Vegan Grenades: ✅
they still put plastic in it
Don’t make it from Mangos 🥭! Make it from cactus 🌵…
how the hell do you get a cactus fruit/plant?😂
@ i dono! Go figure out and choice is yours 😂
Yes this is right
Vegan leather 😂😂😂, i will keep buying Italian veg tan leather. Real product from real animals 👍🏻👍🏻
why "leather" ?
Yes you can sell mangos you sell them so darn expensive people can't buy it. What a Shsme
Vegan leather but is bad for ENVIRONMENT becouse the using resin layer
Chup kar banGALI
@@sayaneemaaneetgupta you did way too much research to prove a point.
@@idk7058 No, I did research because I care. Proving a point is not my Forte but I prefer to give right information to the uninformed and ignorant ones.
@@sayaneemaaneetgupta thanks for caring! don't let such people like that ^^ remove that characteristic from you
how about listing the additives.. would laugh if it contains oil derivitives. would literally be worse for the environment than real leather.
No living thing is harmed in the whole process
*Since mango plant cannot cry while being cut, Certainly its not a living thing*
RIP veganism
Wow
