    So... it is actually Resin leather with a tiny bit of dried mangos inside it.

      It's not that environment friendly as you think. They have to add a lot of additives including resin (plastic) to bond it together and feels like leather. You can't really recycle resin, it's toxic and a petroleum-based product.

    my last leather jacket last for three years. And may be it suffered a little bit burning or chopping from other unknown bad guys, it still not eco friendly and durable enough for the price i had paid. Just only 20 $. I think a better eco friendly one with higher price like 35-50$ and last for 5-10 years still awesome choices than old plastic leather with short time value.

  • @iKPK5
    @iKPK5 2 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    I don't think the final product is really environmental friendly since the process turning tons of mangos into vegan leather is somehow unclear with what makes the rain coating and what chemicals make the additive.
    The mango waste itself is totally green waste and environmental friendly.
    It's just about money from turning free raw material into profitable products to be on the shelf with high-priced tag leather products.
    It will show their true intention when they have to buy mangos as a raw material. With more advance equipments and better management, mango importers won't make enough waste for their production anymore. They will have to do something then.
    If they can produce less expensive real leather from such cow skin without impacting the environment, that would the best.
    Cow skin is valuable and versatile byproduct waste from making beef. Keep in mind, the amount of cow skin produced is equivalent to the amount of beef people consume.

    Even Hermes leather is cheaper than $22 sq ft. I’m all for making use of waste but a product that costs a lot more than real leather and only as durable as PU leather isn’t that great. Seems the mango pulp is just filler and their additives are just another resin/plastic holding it all together. You could probably make the leather from cow poop if you wanted to.

    Increase size to lower cost of production. have large trays made and a large hydrator to make larger sheets. also mecanize all the proceses you can to lower costs. like putting the frut by hand on the machine that will remove the seeds. that can be automated something like an arquimedes screw of those transportation bands. Im sure that industry like this will get goverment and private funding to make a larger product.
    The leather industry will complain all it wishes, but really what are they afraid of? This is NOT leather and wont have the durability of leather.
    the advantage. it grows on trees, wont put out high emissions, cheaper than raisig cattle.

    The production process of most vegan leather (PU) is not environmentally friendly, and can actually be toxic to wear.The products don't last as long as real leather which ends up in the landfill sooner taking longer to decompose. One top of that a lot of vegan leather products cost just as much as real leather, which I consider to be a rip off .

    It's always the same - lets create something that looks like something we hate. Lets use petroleum based product to make it last, but even that isn't enough so we need to find additional petroleum based product or chemicals to make it last longer, but still it won't be as versatile, long lasting or as easy to produce, particularly as the real thing is a far more cost efficient - then we will all 'feel' we are doing the 'right thing' - OMG, save us from these people and their zealots who will stand on their platforms of righteousness

      That's PU. This isn't PU. It is made of eco friendly thing like Mango. Vegan Leather is now being made of Mango pulp, coconut skin, Mushtoom, flower waste etc. Real leather is not only cruel, the tan process is extremely toxic, so much so that it can give people cancer and it polutes water as well. Vegan eco friendly leather has also solved this issue.

      For several reasons, I don't like that vegan leather too. But I don't care about the texture. It's not like people want to change to vegan leather because they don't like the animal texture. They just don't like animal cruelty or negative environmental impact. That's their arguments I guess.
