Madonna is a hugely underrated artist, even as huge as she is. I grew up with her music from the beginning of her career but for me her mid 90's to mid 2000's era was her most creatively prolific time. She had some pop albums, some experimental. But not one of her albums ever sounds like the last. Her diversity and ability to grow as an artist is her strength. She's like a cultural sponge and it always reflected in her change in writing and sound from album to album.

Although this isn't her very first song released, it was, however, the song that put her on the mainstream map.
Madonna used controversial topics and themes to boost her career. It was a marketing tool that paid off for her. She is a smart business woman who knows how to market her brand.
She's know for her controversial sex and religion themes. For a long time she had mixed feelings about the faith she was raised in, Catholic. Later on in life she changed her religion to kabbalah in which she took on the name Esther.
Her fashion sense was the look of the times, only she honed it in so tight into a style that pretty much molded a look of the decade.

There's the fun pop era of her early works culminating with True Blue.
The iconic Like a Prayer Era, the Sex era, the R&B era, Disco, Spiritual era, and it goes on. Some stand out videos id recommend for your reaction would be:
    Vogue
    Express Yourself
    Cherish
    Oh Father
    Justify my love
    Erotica
    Bad Girl
    Take a Bow

It was already there when they played the demo for Madonna and she basically sang it exactly like they did in the demo. Interesting story in that it was actually written by two men but came to be one of the most famous female anthems in music history.

This song was very provocative. Madonna blazed the trail for female pop artists. She was fearless in every aspect of her life/career. I was a teen when this song came out, and EVERYONE knew this song, sang it and wanted to dress like her. She started it all. There would be no Britney, Christina, etc without Madonna. She bore the brunt of sexism so those who followed could enjoy more artistic freedom. POP HISTORY!!!

Madonna is the QUEEN of Pop music. Every pop girl today has been tremendously influenced by her. The live VMA performance of this song became legendary. And then years later, she, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliott performed and paid homage to that performance. Also the performance of this song at her Confessions on a Dance floor tour is iconic as well

You should check out her 1984 VMA performance of Like A Virgin. That was her signature performance that catapulted her rise to the top. Before that performance she was just another run-of-the-mill pop singer.

Her debut single was everybody in 1982 but it didn't make the charts then she released burning up as second single before releasing her debut album in the summer of 1983 but burning didn't either but her first charts entry is holiday that got her on the map on the debut album then she released two more songs from the debut album lucky star and borderline which borderline became a bigger hit from that album but then in late 1983 or early 1984 she began to work on her second album which is the title of the song you reacting to the album was released in November 1984 and became madonna first album to hit number one on the billboard album 200 in 1984 since her debut album hit number 8 in 1983 but it's still a good number from a debut album.

That was a great reaction and you did a great job with figuring out it was indeed venice! I'm sure everyone has clued you in on all the background details, I would definitely suggest watching some more iconic videos like Vogue and express yourself, you have to listen to secret that one has so many profound lyrics in it. Looking forward to it!

What a great young artist showing in this video. Madonna? She must be a new upcoming star ”Lucky Star” on the pop- scene. 👏🤩😉
❤️ next video should be MATERIAL GIRL from same album ”Like a virgin” 1984 that made her famous worldwide. Her debut album was released 83 called Madonna with hits like ”Holiday”, Lucky star”, Burning up”, Borderline” and her first singel ”Everybody”.
Some of her early music videos are very low budget but she made it look good anyway .

Madonna's music can definitely be "fun", it often is. Yet, there is also a very distinctive seriousness to her artistry - she's always inserted issues related to social justice, gay rights, feminism, sexuality, ageism, racial equality, etc to her music, videos, imagery in general, and lyrics. Her discography is super diverse, rich and deeply interesting. You would deffo enjoy reacting to a few more of her videos - you'll be shocked at how much her music, style and image changes over the years. She's so creative! I recommend songs/videos like "Vogue", "Justify my love", "Human Nature", "Frozen", "Don't tell me", and more recently, her 2019 singles "Medellin" (feat. Maluma) and "God Control". Enjoy the journey, I'll be watching!
