The creators say that Frida and Confucius are supposed to fill in Gandhi’s shoes, but Topher unintentionally just does that. Think about it. He’s short, hangs around with Abe, is based on a controversial person of history who he’s the complete opposite of, and I found his trolling of JFK in episode 2 to be hilarious.
Well... If you actually look into Gandhi's life, he really isn't "the complete opposite" of what the Gandhi character was in Clone High. His public persona? Sure. But the guy was a riot irl too when he was younger
My only major complaint is that there is little to no historical jokes about the clones originals. One of the best parts of the first season was the hilarious jokes that were related to the historical figures. Shout out to "Ha ha ha! Nothing bad ever happens to the Kennedy's!"
Yeah I agree. I don't understand the point of making them historical figures if its never going utilized. Topher trying to distance himself from his clone father is an interesting concept, and it sucks that's pretty much the first and last time the concept is used. A major point the show can bring up is "nature vs nurture", because it's clear clones are different from their original counterparts, but how much so? Could clone Joan lead a army? Can clones vaguely remember their "original" life, like JFK being scared of finger gun ? Does history naturally repeat itself, like Van Gogh cutting of his ear? It just seems like a missed opportunity. But at the same time, I understand why they'd want them to be completely separate from their clone parents, since thats why they got cancelled in the first place. And making them too similar to their counterparts can be insensitive, as some of them are... not the best to say the least. The show is also meant to be a more slice of life type show, and it could make the show more serious than intended.
I have no argument or discussion BUT I do say one of my favourite jokes like that was Joan ttying to get Abe to run for school president "I don't know why but there is this weird feeling telling me I shouldn't" as it pans to a painting of the opera assassination
I think Cleo's new voice would be more accepted if she was allowed to have a bigger role in episode 1 or 2. I didn't realize how much i really loved her until her absence was absolutely felt in the first episode. The new pilot has one of the main clones have less than a few minutes of screentime? Shame.
@@Notyourstodisclose I wish I thought of episode 4 as a cleo episode, to me it felt like a joan episode with cleo salad dressing over it. I think i may be too picky though haha
I noticed that they don’t say “next time on a very special Clone High anymore.” They still say “previously on” but still. I guess they abandoned the teen drama parody schtick. There still is drama though, like Abe’s feelings for Joan.
My guess is probably either a production thing(where maybe when they're editing episode A, episode B isn't finished) or worried that MTV or HBO-less Max would accidentally put a spoiler in the "next time" clips.
i don't think the reboot is bad, but what made clone high (2002) blow up a couple years ago was how well it worked as a time capsule. the humor and pop culture references were funny, in part, because of retrospect. the reboot still has potential, though, and i look forward to seeing where it goes
This is something people gloss over whenever they’re gushing over these late 90’s and early 2000’s show. They love the 2000’s aesthetics and references and the fact that the show is a period piece. But in reality, the show was never a period piece. They were modern works of art that were making fun of contemporary and modern things. They just seem like period pieces 20 years later. And so if it were to come back, it’ll be a modern show making fun of modern things, not an early 2000’s vibe.
@@EggEnjoyer this^. lots of people are taking this revival to be somehow not doing what the original did but its actually the opposite. the original was just meta humour making fun of the time which it still does.
@scraps4728 Then the question remains. If the show got popular once it felt more like a period piece, should any subsequent media follow modern trends like the old one did, or should it become an actual period piece?
Gonna be honest, I really don't like rigged animation. It's so smooth to the point of feeling unnatural. Sure, frame animation is more expensive and time consuming, but it really does pay off because it looks so much more natural because of its stiffness.
I feel like Season 1 was better at mocking pop culture, teen dramas, and current events whilst focusing on creating fun character dynamics. Season 2, on the other hand, tends to embrace the teen drama formula as opposed to mocking it, and I think this is what brought it down for me. I thought the new visuals were great and there were several moments that recaptured the magic of the original, but Season 2's humor and writing didn't feel as sharp or witty as Season 1. Because the writers leaned more into the teen drama formula, the main cast of characters interact amongst themselves a lot with little room for other characters, an element I loved about the first season. I also thought the pacing was off in the second season, a lot of the jokes didn't land for me because they were thrown out at awkward times and didn't have time to settle in. Luckily, it got better once it found its footing, as I thought the last few episodes were the best part of Season 2. Hopefully, the writers have settled in and Season 3 will be a big improvement.
my only problem with the new character designs is that their colors do not fit into the color scheme of the show (they easily could have made them fit without actually changing which color they read as)
granted i havent watched the show in years so i could be wrong. but especially the shades of pink on the new characters do not feel right, they should be more red tinted and toned down
i’m so excited to watch the new season. i don’t like cleo’s new VA but its not because she’s doing a bad job, i just prefer cleo to have more of a soft huskier sexy voice, rather than the new mean girl valley accent. i usually love that accent but i think my nostalgia for old cleo is getting in the way of fully appreciating the new cleo.
That’s the number one issue with casting based on race over talent. These new VAs are decent on their own but they pale in imitation of the originals, like Cleo, who lost that husky, breathy, seductive voice and now sounds even whiter than before. It makes me kind of dread what they’re gunna do with Gandhi’s voice if they ever bring him back. (I swear, if they cast Jason Mantozukas as his VA, I’m so done)
My favorite part has to be when Abe though JFK was going to get cancelled too, only to see everyone immediately embrace him, which is a great representation of how the fanbase reacted to him.
The way everyone just forgot about the existence of this show kind of tells you the quality the new season has. So sad, well, at least season 1 still exists.
@@NICKtendoReviewsdude season two is a dud. 100% the only episodes that fel good were the last two. The Abe hate boner was unvearable, Joan charcater was John Wilks Booth, JFK became a nice himbo, even though he was a top tier womanizer, Cleo just lost her edge, her thing with Frida was cool, but didnt felt layered enough, Harriett felt like a self insert at times, Confucious was alright but a bit bland, and Topher was made to be an incel, but w8thout any of the tact and cunniness the first episode promised him to be. And about Topher, a storyline where he had feelings for Abe felt more natural, rather than another person pining for Joan "What happen to my character" Arc
Absolutely not. They alienated thier original target audience by centering stereotypical gen z culture. Those of us that wanted nostalgia just got left in the dust.
Yep, it's a shame really I remember watching it back in 2002 good times. Phil lord and Chris Miller should technically be doing better considering their past cinematography like spiderman, lego movie, etc... I guess they aren't as good for adult animations as they used to be.
I really hated how this season kind of had this underlying tone of being a middle finger to the original show. And I’m not just talking about Gandhi staying in the freezer. That’s actually the least of the issues. Trying to turn Abe into the new “Meg” of the show just because the new fans and writers don’t like him. Actively destroying hallmarks of the original series like The Grassy Knoll and The Thinking Docks and even having Harriet do a little rant about why she (Ayo Edebiri) doesn’t like it. Completely forgetting the foster parents and even killing fan-favorite character Toots offscreen in a throwaway joke, just so they could shoehorn in Candide as Joan’s new foster mom. I don’t know why TV reboots today always feel the need to act like the original show was garbage and that they’re gunna be nothing like that outdated crap, when it’s almost always the greatness and timelessness of the original that brought people to see the reboot.
I'm six episodes in and I'm really not liking it. Obviously Ghandi not being in the show is a huge blow, but they also took away everything that made JFK so funny in the original, Joan is almost a completely different character now (and honestly I find her pretty unlikeable now, especially with how she's treated Abe), Cleo is basically a background character with little to no personality, the new characters mostly suck outside of Topher who doesn't even appear that much, and honestly the whole Joan/JFK relationship feels incredibly forced. They have absolutely no chemistry as a couple and I feel like they're only together because the writers wanted to do a reversal of S1. Abe, Scudworth, and Mr. B are basically carrying the show at this point. It's like the show was written by people who have no idea what made the original show so beloved. I'm still going to give the show a chance in the hopes that they turn it around but IMO the show just feels so soulless compared to the original.
absolutely. I already gasped 4 min into ep1 when Joans first word were basically "but you so popular and im not, why would you ever want me" like good old goth Joan ever cared for popularity
15:00 "More empathetic writing" In this scene JFK is crying because he hasn't kept his male friendships because he has been so focused on women. The problem with this scene is that's not even true about JFK. JFK had a best friend who died in season 1 so why is he crying about a character flaw he doesn't fairly have and not that? Also it's just very unnatural for JFK to be behaving this way, and he probably wouldn't be friends with Confusius, but then again they could have added a character who would make a great friend for JFK but that was clearly an afterthought. Why have a character JFK could play off of when you can have a character that completely changes his core personality instead.
Honestly after watching the first few episodes it's making me really miss Ghandi. Honestly it would be nice for him to be voiced by an Indian actor that would be cool. But yeah to me Ghandi added some layer of variety that didn't make me feel like I was watching the same thing. His absence is felt and I get why people are mad however like these are supposed to be characters different from the original. Like Marie curie being a freak monster only because to make fun of how she had so much radiation. No one brought that up. Also the fact that you have the clone of Christopher Columbus and saying he wouldn't be tied to the image of the person his clone was based after but not be able to apply the same logic to Ghandi is just dumb to me. They can make Ghandi work and so far I really miss him.
have we watched the same show? Joan is infuriatingly out of character in the new one, Cleo is a stupid mean girl stereotype, Hariett is unnecessary, Frida is uninteresting, Topher is wasted potential, JFK has too much screentime for the type of character he is, Confucius is mishandled and the writers hate Abe. how is a series which can't write characters consistently considered better than the original in your eyes? it also went from a satire to a braindead copy of teen dramas... I am in awe.
Even though I felt the season premiere was kinda ehhhhh (though still very funny), the way you described your enjoyment of the season as a whole near the end makes me feel weirdly excited for what's to come.
Have only seen the first two episodes (as they’re the only ones that are out as of me typing this) but one thing I’m left wondering about is if Marie Curie will realize that Gandhi is gone. I mean, they started dating RIGHT before they got frozen. You’d think her of all people would notice.
I always thought the possibility of Gandhi returning was impossible. He had basically been Apu’d: controversial enough to be written off completely, but unlike Apu, who is a great character, I can forgive his absence. Plus, Sleepover (episode 2) was a pretty good watch. Missed opportunity to use the Makeover song again, but ehh. We’ll probably see it eventually.
The difference is Apu is still on the Simpsons as a background character where he can still be apart of big events and remind everyone he's still there. Gandhi is a frozen cameo who'll appear every time his name is mentioned. But this is for the best for both characters
I liked Clone high back in the day and always thought Gandhi's voice was perfectly casted. His voice actor knew how to play the role and sounded like he was having fun doing it. I didn't even know his race until it was mentioned here. I don't why bring that up.
I know right. We have black people playing not black characters and we don't call that blackwashing. The only thing that really matter when it comes to voice acting is the freaking voice.
Having finished it my god it was not better. The comments here are using the wrong reasons, but still, it was definitely not more consistent throughout. Idk how long youve been waiting for this season, but idk man this was just not it.
Sounds like a difference of opinion. Compared to S1, there’s one or two more episodes I liked more. Would’ve said more, but the video had to be spoiler free.
@NICKtendoReviews yeah that's fair lol. I'm glad you were able to enjoy it after waiting all of this time. I legit can't find anyone speaking about the show in an objective way other than in this review since most of the complaints I've seen are nitpicks lol
Watched the first episode and agree largely on that one: I wanted to enjoy it more than I probably did (but I'm excited for more at the same time!). The rigged models take some adjusting to even with some much more gorgeous shot choices; some of the humour and some of the newer vocal performances also took a bit of getting used to, too; excessive violence for a gag seems like more of Stinky Poo thing, but it's not unheard of for this show entirely; "overdesigned" is the right word for the Total Drama style newbies even if I'm already endeared a bit to Confucious; and there's plenty that dates the episode instantly about the first episode's plot that some will find a bit cringey. That said, in defense of the last point, I mean, hell, part of the CHARM of the original was parodying 90s teen dramas and being of a very specific era, plus even if we're sick to death of shows doing a Cancel Culture plot, it also DOES make sense as a metaphor for the show being coming back from literal cancellation. All in all, I probably wouldn't revisit the season's first episode a ton, but I'm excited to give the rest of it a try, ESPECIALLY after Nick felt so similarly about the opener episode but ended up really loving the rest of the season! Personal nitpicks aside, I'm totally down to give it a chance!
I agree. Ofc I miss the old style, but it makes total sense for the characters to act how they do now. It's different but I'm still excited to watch the rest
I've never seen representation for ADHD at all on TV, and if anything about it is mentioned, it's about the medication we use and people abusing it for drugs and getting high off of it because it's drugs or whatever. So Clone High Gandhi not fitting that stereotype was nice for us to be mentioned as people with ADHD like me to be mentioned other than the drug joke of our medication is rare to see especially in animation because there's many characters who are implied to have ADHD but never outright said within the show that they do. Clone High gave us people with ADHD who absolutely love animation and specifically Western animation a character to like and latch onto since we're so unrepresented in Western animation as a whole so this continuation of the show hurts me that Gandhi is gone. If the show continues after season 2 with a third season I hope Gandhi can come back.
There’s a great article by from a few years back called “The Complicated Racial Legacy of MTV’s Cult Classic Clone High” that this commented reminded me of, where the South Asian writer praised how Gandhi wasn’t a stereotype cause he was an average guy without an accent. I know the ADHD stuff was only for one episode, but I can see what you’re talking about if that episode resonated with you. I hope he comes back too.
@@NICKtendoReviews Thank you for acknowledging that this isn't purely black and white (no pun intended) and that ghandi was certainly a more complex character than just "heheh hindu funny man", HE HAD SOUL!
To be honest, I really think they could’ve brought Gahndi back. A large reason the protest even happened in the first place was from something completely unrelated and far more offensive. Because of how pretty much every character besides Joan wasn’t exactly portrayed in a flattering way, I think that the controversy likely just stirred from the situation and wouldn’t have happened otherwise. If they brought him back and toned down his silliness slightly, I think there would be no problem. And his VA being white doesn’t matter to me personally. It’s voice acting, not real life acting. He’s not doing an offensive accent or anything he’s literally just voicing a character. Race shouldn’t matter when it comes to something like that imo.
Yeah. Zeepsterd even made a video about Gandhi's character that looks deeper into this controversy. The magazine in question looks way more offensive compared to how this series portrayed Gandhi and it was all bad timing too. Otherwise, he wouldn't be considered that much controversial and would've remain in the show (unfrozen). I think Gandhi would've definitely fit right in with the new characters, become fast friends with them, and would be considered the "popular student" at school instead of an outcast.
Yeah, unless the series picks up in episode 7, it's been a waste of time, money, talent, and my hopes and dreams. This new series is just not funny. I watched a few episodes yesterday with my brothers and the nose exhales stopped around episode 3. No one laughed from episode 3 onward unless it was Scudworth. It just feels tired, soulless, and rehashed jokes rhat would of been on Family Guy or SpongeBob. I got distinct Butch Hartman vibes fromthe the show. "OH NO SONETHING WON'T HAPPEN." "OH MY THE THING HAPPENED!" This is not the reboot I wanted. This is not the reboot we needed. This is not the reboot the fans deserved.
I loved the episode! I hope we see more Cleo, her presence was lacking. Just like there can be popular girls like Frida there are still popular girls like Cleo. And from it looks like the show might put them together, so we'll have to see
Apparently it's a crime for a white voice actor to play an indian person, even without doing a stereotypical accent? Gotta love modern day culture amiright?
As some one who sat in the 2023 Wondercon Panel, I can confirm that bringing back Ghandi is definitely in the cards and there was a positive response when they said they would be looking for a new VA. And yeah after watching the first 2 episodes, the revive has promise. Definitely a lot to take in with the new status quo, but I’m sure I’ll get use to it. I think my only main worry is that episodes might have too much going on since the cast of characters almost doubled in sized. With the two episodes I watched, it did seem fairly balanced and hopefully things are spread too thin with give ever character time to shine.
Whoever is casted has some huge shoes to fill, because the old voice played a big part of what made him so funny. My pick though would probably be the guy who's playing Spider-Man India in Across The Spider-Verse, he seems to be doing a good job in that film so far and would make sense considering Spider-Verse is a Lord-Miller franchise.
@@connorbeith3232 Yeah it definitely might be a good move on that. At this point they’re making good decisions with the the voice direction and keeping as much of the original cast on. Like despite Christa Miller not voicing Cleo, she’s still on staff voicing Candide Sampson
After watching the first episode when it was leaked and watching the second episode months later, I immediately felt more confident about the series going forward. I think episode two was definitely better and hope it continues from there.
I guess my main issue with the new clone high is the comedy is kneecapped by it's newer style of comedy, in my humble opinion. It's topics are super in your face about it and not parodied as much as it could be. I guess to put it more succinctly I feel they're less daring and more blunt with the comedy. It leaves me feeling kinda secondhand embarrassed when they play modern topics as straight as possible like Abe's Cancellation. For example, If Snowflake Day was covered in the modern Clone High I genuinely think it wouldn't even be Snowflake Day. It'd just be dunking on Christmas with a few shots of characters looking straight at the audience to clue us in further that what they're doing is commentary about the outside world and expecting us to laugh at their self awareness. Everything feels back in order except it's parody nature. I guess it's just a product modern business safety measures to not try and make people mad, but it just feels weird that everything is played straight. That being said everything else was enjoyable, if not a bit rushed character wise, but that'll Iron out over time with more episodes.
The new season was trash. Like how many times are you going to crock block Abe? It was so frustrating sitting through episode after episode, laughing no more than twice just to watch Abe ans JFK scream at Joan because "Ohh noooooo we didnt know it was Joan." Absolute bee snot.
I can't wait for the full season to be out. I trust this show would be good, and as much as I miss Ghandi, I feel like the new characters would help tons to fill in the spot he left behind haha
the first minutes of ep1 already told me im not gonna like this. Old Joan was a goth that loved abe and cared for things New Joans first sentence: B-But you are popular and im not 🥹😍😮
I definitely feel like the second episode was better than the first I think they’re still trying to figure out what works and doesn’t. I really enjoyed the jfk online comments part and Joan having more female friends but was disappointed that Cleo was basically pushed aside in favor of Frida and Harriet one can even argue that the episode was more focused on them and not Joan. I agree that I spend more time focusing on trying to enjoy it then actually enjoying it but spending a long time with characters acting and looking a certain way I think everyone was trying to adjust to the sudden changes. I think the show has a lot of potential and has a bigger chance at being better than the og so I’ll stick around till the end to see if it does
@Stevey The Ex-Eevee yea watching the other two episodes was pretty rough the show seems like it was written by someone that never saw the og and only wrote for kids shows
I disagree that it was a better overall package, in fact i disagree with most of the takes in this video, but im honestly happy someone out there got positives from this new season rather than numbness i felt watching it.
13:06 respectfully gotta disagree with the taking out of Ghandi as someone who has watched both. he provided the very unnecessary comedic relief all teen dramas’ had and there is not one in the reboot. they all serve plot purpose and i need some actual gen z energy in this. def agree it could be another character and not necessarily him, but the absence is present
I hate the reboot, but not necessarily totally because of nostalgia factor. The new characters are extremely vibrant and don't really jive with the originals. Like someone else said, they look more like oc's rather than renditions of historical figures. It's just incredibly jarring and something about it just doesn't feel.. right? The jokes also just don't land for me personally, but then again the original CH was more unhinged in its humor ig. Overall, I'm not gonna join a hate bandwagon bc muh nostalgia but it definitely isn't as good as it could've been
I first saw Clone High in 2007 (I'm getting old) and I loved it back then and I'm loving it now. The first episode was clunky sure, but I put that down to the fact that it's a brand new freaking pilot and Lord, Miller, Lawrence and Rivinoja are all back to this one off show they did 20 years ago because I'm an adult and understand that getting back into the swing of things takes its time. And then the second episode appears and I'm right back in and we're back to the Clone High I love where it's entirely parodying melodramatic teen drama garbage that we had to freaking endure in the late 90s and early 00s. I can absolutely understand why some people aren't liking it if it's not to their personal taste of humour or whatever? That's fine. I get that. Comedy is totally subjective! I like that there's historical jokes in there! Harriet and Frida are both social activists. Same as their clone mothers. Confuscius is trying to influence people because his clone father was a philosopher who influenced Asian Philosophy for over a thousand years. Frida paints murals. Harriet has the unusual power to make people rally behind her in her causes (Makes sense, her clone mother did the same). Toph is the ONLY one who is sort of defying the historical tropes to some degree... But it does make more sense when you realise that the real Christopher Columbus didn't really have much regard for empathy or human life. Hence why he's an incel little would be alt right monster. Hell, there was even a joke in the 4th episode where JFK mentions as the prom king and queen that they could be in the back of an open top convertible and nothing bad could happen. There's still historical jokes. JOANS out of character? Nah, she's just gotten older and dating a hot boyfriend. Abes out of character? No he isn't, he's still the same dumb ass who is so hyper fixated on a girl he can't have. Granted, I'm spotting all the Teen Drama stuff like the Dawsons Creek and the Beverly Hills 90210 parody stuff because I REMEMBER that crap. I think that Ghandi not coming back is kind of genius because in all these teen drama shows, actors wouldn't come back and they were put on a bus and be "transferred to another school" or whatever. Ghandi not reappearing is another MASSIVE parody of the "Put on a bus" trope and how those characters were almost like Chuck Cunningham in happy Days just disappearing forever and nobody makes reference to them ever again.... Only I feel they're dropping WAY too many hints to have gotten rid of Ghandi for good. One of the things about Clone High is that people got spoiled on it. It's a show that was SO much better to watch in one fell swoop so you could see the story arc. Chunk by chunk and I think people who are more used to it being a binge show are going to be disappointed... But once it's out in one long arc, I hope the feelings turn around. But I'm still loving it........ Weeeeeeesleeeeeeeeeeey
I mean as someone who watched the new season all at once, you’re completely right about that being the better way too watch it. Loved hearing your perspective!
dude it’s so sick that you got to see the entire season! totally deserved considering you played a MASSIVE role in the shows revival and were a big reason why the show saw a resurgence in popularity
@MegaJdogg1234 definitely some bias here let's be real. Dude was acting like the first few episodes were nearly as funny as the original when after seeing ep 3 and especially 4 we know that's not true
Come on now… is this Stockholm syndrome or just plain meat riding? You meticulously defend the new show, bring up very major complaints with it for about a minute straight, and then end by saying it’s great. It almost feels like you’re being held hostage.
The way you described the video going from positive to negative to positive comments and landing on a positive conclusion makes it sound well rounded. I reviewed it with the entirety of the season in mind and addressed my biases in the conclusion
I think a voice actor should be judged more on their performance rather than if their skin roughly matches the character they're playing. Of course it's great to have racial diversity in voice acting as it is for pretty much everything but to force it when someone else can do a reasonably better job just doesn't really make sense. In terms of animation revivals I think that characters should retain their original voice actors if possible and if not have a close match. Besides, there are some whiter characters played by non-white people that absolutely excel in their roles. Since I'm on a Street Fighter kick let's look at M. Bison and Luke. M. Bison definitely ain't black but his voice actor is and absolutely crushes it. Luke is the typical blonde American trope but his voice actor is of Asian descent I believe but he just makes Luke so likable in SF6.
14:30 A: Most people wouldn't care about a woman being in charge if the jokes were still funny. B: Most people wouldn't even have noticed if Joan didn't look at the camera and explain to the audience that majority male writer teams are so 2003 (if she said it like that while not looking at the camera, maybe it would have been a good joke too idk but the serious tone was just awful). If you're gonna brag about having more diversity you should be brining us a better product since your argument is things will be better when we have diversity and inclusion but instead things are now painfully mediocre.
Ironic they decided to brag about women being in charge now after they ruined the estabilished female characters and made the new female characters one-dimensional and uninteresting.
Clone high, undergrads and mission Hill were my favourite late night cartoons as a kid. There was a time in my life where I would google and see if the shows would ever come back in my late teens, like at least once a month. Now as a 28 years old I can't believe the show has been back for 2 days and I didn't even realize that it releases. I knew it was coming when they put a clone high easter egg in spider verse though.
I haven’t watched the reboot but I think it would be cool if the way he came back is there’s a blackout at the school with as like a horror or Scooby Doo parody and at the end it’s revealed Ghandi was the monster as they beat him before realizing.
Nicktendo: uploads an early review about his thoughts on Clone High S2 that may be very controversial, but thinks it's fine since it's only his opinion and everyone who watches the video for preparation will hopefully not bully him for not having the same thoughts and experience on the new season as everyone else Everyone: "rrrrrrr- NICKTENDO BETRAYED US"
@@NICKtendoReviews unrelated, but your voice is so distinct that I can't help but read your comments, replies, etc in your voice. It reminds me of the voice-overs in those 2010s nick commercials
Everytime something gets a revival, remake or reboot it just shows me more why old shit should be left alone. Better to make new things and stop constantly clinging on to old things we grew up with, all this does is just bring something of its time to a point that's completely different and these shows always doing this is nothing new. As this video stated before, this isn't the first aniamted show to tackle cancel culture and it won't be the last either as nestolga is hell of a thing and more and more things that should of stayed ended when they did will shamelessly be revived and modeled in to some grotesque thing to fit a modern audience. I always go with "if you're to scared to keep it as it was, then you shouldn't of even botherd" just make something new that can fit isntead, but that means being creative and understanding your target audience like smiling friends, but thats to hard and instead it's easy to pray on people nestolga for how things were no matter how much now they preach current shit. They will eat up the lazy revive and you make money with no effort what so ever, when people complain about these reboots and remakes, they will instantly drop that running to the next franchise they once loved being digged from it's grave. The not hard to find people bitch about remakes and reboots and how they need to stop making them and we should vote with our wallets, to then instantly eat up the next nestolga bait. Overall just keep old shit dead, more looking forward to season 2 of smiling friends then any shitty reboot or remake.
we need a better season or even a replacement for this one. It's horrendous and there's so little to like compared to the original. Even if Ghandi came back, this season was beyond saving.
Going into the first episode I was worried that the "cancel culture" 50 year old humor would be annoying but surprisingly the way thet pulled it off was pretty funny and the way the characters reacted to it was fine. Episode 2 was a lot better
It's painfully mediocre. The main thing is, if you have a new team of writers, it's not the same show. The overall concepts fit, the actual writing, jokes, and vibe are just cringy and lame. The new writers are simply bad at it. The new generation didn't need a new clone high. The Origin fans needed more of the series they were denied. This gives nothing.
I'm glad you enjoyed the show but i just couldn't vibe with it. Having both these sesons apart of the same show ony displays the degradation of animated satirical adult media. Superficial drama and seserity, overt violence with no context build up or purpose and celebrity gospel has completely replaced allnof the well timed and comically timeless writing of the original. I wasn't even a fan of the first session diving into this show and while I can admit this show doesn't live in the past like other reboots a completely lacks any of the appeal or charm of the original while also demonizing it. Honestly the show feels like its preaching a lot more than its trying to entertain and it's pretty annoying if part of any minority or orientation groups the show's tries to make feel comfortable its trying to include. The original was able to bring everybody together no matter what race or background high School sucks teen drama shows are vapped and the government is on your ass. Ironically I feel like the new show separates people more and thats a shame but if people are able to enjoy it then good for them I can find entertainment elsewhere.
I just wish they didn't pussy out and kept the frame-by-frame animation. But nah it's all rigged now, which is _very_ difficult to do without having that stiff look
I really hate the new characters designs. Those colors just chew the scenary, i believe they did it on purpose to catch the attention of the viewers. And it works, too much. Maybe calm down with the neons.
Ah clone high, the little show that could never die. I truly do believe nicktendo is the main reason the show got its second season. Thank you nicktendo
I actually hate the first two episodes of the new season. It can still be saved for me, but I think its like The Matrix Resurrections. I can't stress enough how much I didn't want to hate the new Matrix, and I can't stress enough now how much I don't want to hate the new season. The new characters so far don't feel like they fit in with the rest of the cast, JFK is completely unfunny, and there's all this gore now like it's trying to Member-Berry us to flashback to Happy Tree Friends. I feel like most aspects of the first two episodes are just hollow husks of what was in season one. I want the episodes to be creative but still fit, but all of the "creative ideas" are not properly plausible based on the previously established characters and world. I appreciate your pretty unbiased review and the things you liked and didn't like. Great video, disappointing new season.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! DONT REMIND ME
I'm also trying to keep an open mind and hold my opinions till I watch the entire new season. Although it already feels off without Gandi.
I do think they should’ve had Ghandi revealed to be Gary Coleman given that was one of the plans to deal with the Ghandi Controversy
They even foreshadowed it in that picture frame.
You're serious? Wtf?!?
I think they’re gonna save him for season 3 or 4
They’ll totally do this in the finale of the season
Or Tupac
The creators say that Frida and Confucius are supposed to fill in Gandhi’s shoes, but Topher unintentionally just does that. Think about it. He’s short, hangs around with Abe, is based on a controversial person of history who he’s the complete opposite of, and I found his trolling of JFK in episode 2 to be hilarious.
Did you really compare Topher and Gandhi? That’s pathetic as fuck, they are nothing alike
Yeah, but honestly i don’t think we want a PURE incel, we’d rather have ghandi
@@vvx600
We need more lovable incels like ghandi, he was such a riot
@@vvx600 better incel than Ivan the Terrible
Can clones vaguely remember their "original" life, like JFK being scared of finger gun
? Does history naturally repeat itself, like Van Gogh cutting of his ear? It just seems like a missed opportunity.
But at the same time, I understand why they'd want them to be completely separate from their clone parents, since thats why they got cancelled in the first place. And making them too similar to their counterparts can be insensitive, as some of them are... not the best to say the least. The show is also meant to be a more slice of life type show, and it could make the show more serious than intended.
*car flips then crashes intensifies*
Tbh, they'd probably get cancelled if they do that today.
@J Cool Guy 15 Thats because the world is being run by oversensitive babies who do not know how to take a bloody joke. Cancel culture sucks
I have no argument or discussion BUT I do say one of my favourite jokes like that was Joan ttying to get Abe to run for school president "I don't know why but there is this weird feeling telling me I shouldn't" as it pans to a painting of the opera assassination
To quote Gandhi’s kidney:
“I miss him.”

I think Cleo's new voice would be more accepted if she was allowed to have a bigger role in episode 1 or 2. I didn't realize how much i really loved her until her absence was absolutely felt in the first episode. The new pilot has one of the main clones have less than a few minutes of screentime? Shame.
I imagine they're building up to a Cleo episode, we established that she's no longer popular, she's the one having the most trouble adaptng

I noticed that they don’t say “next time on a very special Clone High anymore.” They still say “previously on” but still. I guess they abandoned the teen drama parody schtick. There still is drama though, like Abe’s feelings for Joan.
they probably did that because most people don't remember how the show ended. I'm sure next episode they are going to start doing it again.

And so if it were to come back, it’ll be a modern show making fun of modern things, not an early 2000’s vibe.
is not a reboot
I do,t mind that they're rigged, i think it's that it's too streamed. The rigs old have been still pretty choppy
But rigged animation can look so good sometimes. If it's used correctly.
Hopefully, the writers have settled in and Season 3 will be a big improvement.
my only problem with the new character designs is that their colors do not fit into the color scheme of the show (they easily could have made them fit without actually changing which color they read as)
granted i havent watched the show in years so i could be wrong. but especially the shades of pink on the new characters do not feel right, they should be more red tinted and toned down
No the colors fit just fine. Especially since the backgrounds don't stay one color and the environment affects the colors too. It makes them look new
I think the color clash is definitely on purpose. It's basically showing how times have changed and styles have changed.
i’m so excited to watch the new season. i don’t like cleo’s new VA but its not because she’s doing a bad job, i just prefer cleo to have more of a soft huskier sexy voice, rather than the new mean girl valley accent. i usually love that accent but i think my nostalgia for old cleo is getting in the way of fully appreciating the new cleo.
So overwriting a character and looking away from all The problemátic shit that "everyone" would have to confront if they had included it
It’s weird because JFK had specifically said in the past that he only dates those who deem attractive. Another out of character thing, sadly.
Clone High will always be associated with the greatness that was Season 1, as opposed to the … mixed reboot.
Fr this comments section is so full of the toxic positivity clowns who can't take a criticism point

The new one will never be better than the original season
Idk man I just used that specific shot because it had been officially released. I was not referring to that shot in particular
Double standards
have we watched the same show? Joan is infuriatingly out of character in the new one, Cleo is a stupid mean girl stereotype, Hariett is unnecessary, Frida is uninteresting, Topher is wasted potential, JFK has too much screentime for the type of character he is, Confucius is mishandled and the writers hate Abe.
how is a series which can't write characters consistently considered better than the original in your eyes? it also went from a satire to a braindead copy of teen dramas... I am in awe.

As of 2020, characters of color are expected to be played by people of color. That's why it was brought up!
I know right. We have black people playing not black characters and we don't call that blackwashing. The only thing that really matter when it comes to voice acting is the freaking voice.
Hopefully, whoever they cast to play Gandhi in the reboot if they even bring him back will be good and not another watered-down Cleo replacement.
I don't see how the new total drama characters are in anyway "overdesigned"
I never thought I'd say this, but frida has too much brow. They should've had her have a helga brow
I can't believe nicktendo lied to me
I've never seen representation for ADHD at all on TV, and if anything about it is mentioned, it's about the medication we use and people abusing it for drugs and getting high off of it because it's drugs or whatever.
I hope he comes back too.

i completely agree. ghandi is near and dear to my heart as someone who has adhd, and if i never get to see him unfrozen, i’ll be very sad

"OH NO SONETHING WON'T HAPPEN." As some one who sat in the 2023 Wondercon Panel, I can confirm that bringing back Ghandi is definitely in the cards and there was a positive response when they said they would be looking for a new VA.

Honestly, I don't care about the race of the person who voices the character. The only thing that matters is if the voice is good.
I can't wait for the full season to be out. I trust this show would be good, and as much as I miss Ghandi, I feel like the new characters would help tons to fill in the spot he left behind haha

Topher Bus is definitely there just to be funny
I hate the reboot, but not necessarily totally because of nostalgia factor. The new characters are extremely vibrant and don't really jive with the originals. Like someone else said, they look more like oc's rather than renditions of historical figures. It's just incredibly jarring and something about it just doesn't feel.. right? The jokes also just don't land for me personally, but then again the original CH was more unhinged in its humor ig. Overall, I'm not gonna join a hate bandwagon bc muh nostalgia but it definitely isn't as good as it could've been
Gandhi being gone really hurts the show imo.
nah. no it's not.
Like High Guardian Spice and Velma, I felt like this show was just a show for kids with the occasional adult joke.
How much did they pay😭😭😭
A Clone High with no Ghandi is like a kid with no Dad.
This is such a Pan Pizza joke
@@alejandrocervantes3624but it is true, even though I have enjoyed the 2 episodes that are out
WAIT IT EXISTS?! I WAS JUST REWATCHING YOUR ORIGINAL CLONE HIGH VIDEO A MONTH AGO
6:52 Speaking of Final Space, the story is finally being finished in a form of a comic book novel. Still I prefer it to be animated.
Let's try this again. Welcome back, Clone High!
So that's why this guy is talking nice about the reboot lol, now it makes perfect sense 💀
@@dybixs1400 Because he enjoyed it?
The whole race thing is only in America
Yeah, I'm actually in agreement with this. It's honestly who sounds best for the character.
Looking forward to checking it out. Sad theres no Gandhi but it's to be expected.
Knowingmayrlins mansons in lore and they kept him at the canceled table is wild
My only major complain: why does Mr. B not say Wesley?
Clone high, undergrads and mission Hill were my favourite late night cartoons as a kid. There was a time in my life where I would google and see if the shows would ever come back in my late teens, like at least once a month. Now as a 28 years old I can't believe the show has been back for 2 days and I didn't even realize that it releases. I knew it was coming when they put a clone high easter egg in spider verse though.
I haven’t watched the reboot but I think it would be cool if the way he came back is there’s a blackout at the school with as like a horror or Scooby Doo parody and at the end it’s revealed Ghandi was the monster as they beat him before realizing.
so far it is not better than the og. it’s actually a lot worse imo. there’s a lot i like about it but there’s almost just as much that i dislike
Nicktendo: uploads an early review about his thoughts on Clone High S2 that may be very controversial, but thinks it's fine since it's only his opinion and everyone who watches the video for preparation will hopefully not bully him for not having the same thoughts and experience on the new season as everyone else
Everyone: "rrrrrrr- NICKTENDO BETRAYED US"
The “twitter in your ear” meme really held up didn’t it
@@NICKtendoReviews unrelated, but your voice is so distinct that I can't help but read your comments, replies, etc in your voice. It reminds me of the voice-overs in those 2010s nick commercials
What my fiance and. didnt enjoy as much was the overuse of blood. Maybe it might be a nitpick, but it became distracting at one point
Thank youu, i kept saying there was excessive blood but people kept calling me crazy
I don't think it's bad at all, but it's disappointing to me that it feels more standalone than a continuation of the first season.
Im sorry but tbh the new characters kinda look like somebodys clone high oc
Not all of them though!
Nothing like the original. Its not funny at all. Not to mention they took out the best character Ghandi. New characters suck.
Screw you and ur opinion on Gandhi he was the best and funny he was silly and he should be re added in season 3
I want Mr B to call everyone Wesley again
short answer: no
Everytime something gets a revival, remake or reboot it just shows me more why old shit should be left alone.
I didn't hate it. I am truly excited for more episodes. Scuddworth is still my fav
3 episodes in and it’s baaaadddd. People are really huffing the copium.
we need a better season or even a replacement for this one. It's horrendous and there's so little to like compared to the original. Even if Ghandi came back, this season was beyond saving.
7:28 Anyone else ever notice that Ghandi is pitch black here?
Going into the first episode I was worried that the "cancel culture" 50 year old humor would be annoying but surprisingly the way thet pulled it off was pretty funny and the way the characters reacted to it was fine. Episode 2 was a lot better
I can't get over how sacagawea just looks like a character from F is for family
I kind of want the new characters to leave :/ everyone except Topher doesn't really fit the vibe
I'm goig to have to disagree with the implication that a majority of yhe humor of the original was just edge lord comedy.
Going into this show after rewatching the original so many times was interesting tbh, but episode 2 does a WAY better job with the new clones!
I felt like they made the scripts for both episodes back in 2017 and released the whole thing just now 😕
I actually hate the first two episodes of the new season.
I love The Matrix Resurrections, so I get it.
@@NICKtendoReviews oh this makes alot more sense now u just like terrible shows and movies. i also really wanted to give the show a chance.episode 1 was corny and cringe but had some good jokes. episode 2 was pretty good so i was looking up, episode 3 mediocre and 4-6 were absolute garbage with 6 being the breaking point that made me give up. the musical number about white privledge was so unbeliviably cringe were tired of extremist leftism in our cartoons it sucked in velma and it sucks in this
Man I wish Gandhi was still in the show he was one or my favourite chatacters in the original
He was the reason they got canceled in the first place
@@redred222 I know he was, I wouldn't want him to be unfrozen as Gandhi I think going down the Garry Coleman route would be better, but how he acted as a character had so much comic relief to him. Bringing him back as Coleman would be great in order to keep the show on air and not cause any harm to people in India
The joke where Scudworth makes silly sounds to open a safe, only to press a single button that does all the sounds anyway, its such a silly joke and it was the only one that made me actually laugh
Also it's a Weezer joke.
