I am an adult who has been subscribed to this channel for about 2 years. I just got a Playstation 4 Pro yesterday. Thank you for the sales pitch! Already put some time in to KH 1.5 Remix and Horizon Zero Dawn. Also was happy to see that PS Now has Dark Cloud, one of my favorite games from back in the day. Now the challenge is having too many games I want to play...
Honestly needed this list more than you’d know. Major depression + world pandemic = “we’re all dead anyway” thoughts and me crying over not having a puppy. So comforting games are nice...I haven’t had a nice game in forever. Use to be that person that played the same game for like 3 years straight before switching to another game love lol. But thank you sincerely from the depths of whatever heart I have left here.😂
Animal Crossing has become my way of life when I'm not playing FF7R. A new day starts, I harvest ny fruits, hit some rocks and give presents to my islanders and then go to Midgar and get jnto motorcycle chases with a SOLDIER that has a "special" relationship with his bike ...
Stealth games. Taking things slow and enjoying the scenery. AND NOW I learn Rob also "directs" his own "cinematic gameplay." I've said it before and I'll say it again: Rob is definitely my spirit animal.
the Ratchet and clank games have always kinda been my sanctuary whenever I needed to relax. Also such nostalgia since the original R&C was the second game I ever played on the playstation (after Klonoa 2: lunatea's veil)
RDR2! Yes! But specifically, after you rescue Sean but before you rescue Micah because of the atmosphere in camp. For me, returning to camp after a day hunting or exploring or shooting, and hearing a story already being told around the fire, or joining in on a song half-way through has this feeling of realness, of stepping into life with your family after a hard day. So calming.
Yes, Sabrina, they did an immense job of capturing that atmosphere perfectly 👌 I found myself waking up every morning in camp and starting my day by doing the "chores" and enjoying the conversations in between. Then by about 9am you'd head out for your day's activities, only to come back at the end of it to share stories and sing around the campfire...marvellous!
@@martynpotter21 Yep. I have a separate save at the exact point in the story. Horseshoe outlook is my favourite camp. Just like Rob mentioned in the video, I am a sucker for how deliberate and slow everything is in RDR2. Wake up, drink coffee, do some chores, talk with the gang and head out. When I'm not stargazing after a hearty meal, I'm on my way to the camp with some game on my trusty steed Geronimo, my blood bay thoroughbred. ❤
@@thegreatpineapple4425 yes the pacing is definitely more my style, and it was refreshing really, compared to how most other games are created. I think Rockstar nailed it, in that regards, you played it at a slower and more deliberate pace and it just felt organic. Without getting too cliched, I had an experience rather than I played a video game.
I feel if Elle was still part of the team, her comfort game would probably be God of War: "There is nothing quite so satisfying as cleaving a Draugr's head in two with the Leviathan Axe or tearing the wings off a Valkyrie after just barely managing to defeat them. (Relaxed sigh)
For me, Path of Exile and Poke'mon Black are good comfort games. There's something comforting about spending time with characters that you've spent hours building up, making them that little bit stronger and measuring how much they've grown by how comparatively easily they now take down opponents that used to be troublesome.
Horizon Zero Dawn is a big one for me. I've been replaying it recently and honestly it's so soothing to my soul. Not even just the story, sometimes simply roaming around, hunting when you get the jump on some machine, or just finding that perfect nature shot in photo mode... Awww so comforting. Also Kingdom Hearts. The whole series. Any one of them. They send me on an emotional rollercoaster but I wouldn't have it any other way.
I played through Horizon: Zero Dawn after a near simultaneous breakup and layoff. The feeling of empowerment in getting stronger and helping others in such an incredible setting helped me manage the powerlessness of reality.
The Spyro the Dragon original trilogy has been my comfort game since I was seven years old--and yes I still play it on the remaining working PS2 that is lovingly safeguarded in the cabinet
I've been taking all my suddenly gained free time to play Ni No Kuni for the first time and honestly, it's become an instant comfort game, just existing in Ni No Kuni's world just makes me so happy.
My comfort game has to be monster hunter world. Having memorised a monsters attacks, patterns and behaviour and pulling off dodges and counter attacks like some kind of anime hero, never once being hit by the monster and in a climatic climax slaying the beast and hearing that victory chime as the monster falls.
My recommendation : playing games like God of War, DmC, metal gear rising, castlevania in easy mode, just so satisying ! Racing on the Nurburgring while listing to Pink Floyd on spotify, Bird watching on Red Dead Redemption 2 while playing in a very realistic and nice way, being an eagle in Assassin's creed or taking an helicopter in gta V, just playing Skyrim.
Titanfall 2 on easy mode, or, for those who really don't want anything shooting back at them, just the tutorial. Oh, and don't forget basically every Lego game ever created. Lego is even more fun when you can accidentally step on it.
Yeah, it's the Sims for me. It's perfect lifestyle wish fulfillment and I've given up feeling embarrassed about it. Sometimes I just want to live my life but with everything going right. I can get that job I look for. I can be guaranteed to improve at something if I put the time into it. My house is beautiful, my mood is controllable, and I look just how I want. It's nice to dream.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - I have spent more time running around, exploring and doing Side Ops than I have the actual story, just to relax. Also, running around Mother Base saying hi to your soldiers.
The ps2 Ratchet and Clanks and the Spyro trilogy my go to during the holidays with a comfy blanket and a big mug of hot chocolate. That's a relaxing time.
There are so many games that people find special comfort in, maybe Rob should make a part 2 of this video next week? I mean, not even one mention of Skyrim? Skyrim is my absolute comfort game, filled to the brim of familiarity . Had a bad day? Skyrim. Boss didn't want to get out of your face? Fus Ro Dah your follower off a mountain, imaging it's your boss. Need a laugh? Download the Catnip mod and laugh at jumping chickens. Need to get totally immersed and lost in a game for hours, escaping reality and giving your tired brain a break? Skyrim. Skyrim is the definition for comfort for me. I'm 100% positive that we can get 7 more games for a list video? I mean what about the gems like ABZU, Life is Strange, Mass Effect, Tetris Effect and the Fallout Games? (Not 76 though XD)
Rob, thank you so much for continuing to produce these even from isolation. These videos offer a sense of routine and normalcy that most of us lack during these lockdowns. Truly, thank you.
Gravity Rush 2 is my favourite comfort game at the moment. The characters, the music, the open world with its two cities and many districts and the way you use gravity to travel between them. I find it all very relaxing.
I have 3 comfort games. Rocket League (casual obviously) coincided with Spotify. and FFX/FFVII original, simply because the soundtracks on both games are my personal favorite and the nostalgia I get playing it literally takes me to a simpler time in my life.
One time I got so annoyed with OverWatch back in the day I said, "Forget this, I'll play Dark Souls 3 PvP" and I had a much better time. It's weird how Souls-likes can be comfort games when you know them in and out.
KH3 or any KH game, monster hunter world, battlefront 2, batman arkham, ff7r, bloodborne, and uncharted 4 or 2...I find comfort in being absorbed into different types of worlds
Rob’s love of the Lord of the rings is like my love of the first home alone. I must’ve watched it over a hundred times and I still love it the same as I did the first time.
As a big BioWare fan my two biggest Comfort Games are Dragon Age Inquisition and Mass Effect 2. With DAI I've played so much (about 2300 whoops) that I can just wander the sandboxes and do side quests, enjoying the ambience and the companion banter. With ME2 there's just something so wonderful about returning to the Normandy, going through the main game and DLCs in my perfect order, and feeling like a proper badass with a sniper rifle.
In order of comfort from, most to least, my games are: 1. Dragon Age: Origins - Nothing says comfort like strolling through the halls of the lost Dwarven Kingdom. 2. Dishonored (any) on Low Chaos 3. Kingdoms of Amalur 4: Dishonored (any) on High Chaos 5. Mass Effect 2
My current comfort game is Final Fantasy 7 remake. I like to take it slow and gawk at how Midgar looks prettier than it did in my imagination as a kid. However, when I really feel like reminiscing about my childhood I dust off the first game I ever owned Pokemon Red.
Chocabo racing on the ps1 is my favorite game to relax too. The music is comforting and it has vibrant colors in the environment. Sypro the dragon is also another game I like to relax to when I'm stressed out too.
Adding to the driving one: i have a car simulator cockpit set up and have spent hundreds of hours drifting so far, the satisfaction of perfectly linking up corners is hard to beat.
I agree with FFIX and i also want to throw FFXV in too once you have finished the story FFXV is a great world to doss about in, drive around listening to classic FF songs, do some fishing, go camping It's great to relax with
Breath of the Wild. it's such a beautiful world to just walk/ride a horse through. I got an easy 250 hours in it. it's been the one game that somehow keeps pulling me back in.
For me, it's going to be CTR Online, but ONLY after I beat the Developer Times so I can show off my Master Wheels. Just so I can drive around slowly and actually explore the track with zero intention of winning any races. Maybe I'll just drive around the track backwards, or horse around in areas that are within sight of other racers, but far from the critical path. Turn some heads and make people wonder what I'm doing, then they'll see my master wheels and realize: "Oh, that guy's just enjoying his retirement from competitive racing."
This does make me curious as to which video game soundtracks the access crew like to listen to because all of these have great audio. Perhaps a Tuesday Checklist idea?
Personally, I love the Peter Jackson's King Kong soundtracks, GTA San Andreas Theme song, Ghostmaster title scream, and Spongebob Squarepants CFTKK diesel dreaming soundtrack.
Oh god I have too many to list personally. Though I remember specifically falling in love with The Legend of Dragoon’s soundtrack first back when I had my very first PlayStation. Hearing the second boss theme (the one that plays when you’re fighting a serious boss like one of the dragons) cemented itself as one of the coolest I’d heard. Still wish I could get a CD copy or a digital version.
I'm so so glad you put red dead 2 in this list I couldn't agree more with exploring the wilderness, drinking coffee and hunting new things to eat on ya happy trails.
Either walking around somewhere beautiful l like, such as Everyone's Gone To The Rapture, or sailing the seas in Assassin's Creed Odyssey, engaging in sea battles and boarding the occasional ship to kill a random mercenary.
No Mans Sky and Elite Dangerous are the perfect chillout games for me. Just flying around solar systems, landing on the planets and exploring, not knowing what you could find next, is so relaxing.
That first minute is so wonderfully wholesome! I wish Rob all the happiness and joy he has brought so many of us will be returned to him tenfold :D Thank you PlayStation Access for all the entertainment!
I can agree with Gran Turismo sport and I have to say with shame I never played FF9. Just FF7, FFX, FFX2, FF12, FFXIII and FFXIII-2. I don't know why I didn't play that one. I love Ghibli studio.
Thanks for showing number IX love I was 8 years old and was just taken away by this game I played it like a nuub but as I got older and consequent gameplays I got better, understood, and relished the story even more.
You had me at Dark Souls; I play Demon Souls every Xmas just for the same reasons you described. Calm, enjoyable, learned and practiced roadmap permanently embedded in my brain.
Rob basically described not only how I play red dead, but the games being a movie and I am the director, thing that I feel like I am always doing. Good to not feel alone, thx Rob
Rock Band (whatever version); I don't play expert, I just like playing casually on medium...sometimes hard; I just like to play along to the music; and the feeling the game gives you of being in a band. Good times.
My comfort game is The Witcher 3. Whenever I want to relax I just admire it's world, the shores and mountains of Skellige, the vistas of Kaer Morhen, the sun going down in Velen, the windmills and vineyards of Toussaint and the big city life of Novigrad. For me it's perfection.
The "yellow" section of Gris. Pulling off perfect chains of platforming moves you've learned so far in a gorgeous and - for once - completely stress-free environment, and then singing the whole place to life.
Hello, you’ve caught me earning the Final Fantasy VII Remake Platinum! As for my comfort game...well not to be a broken record, but the Final Fantasy series. VII is my absolute favorite from the haunted city of Midgar to the sun drenched Costa Del Sol, to faraway Wutai, even the frozen waste of the Northern Crater. FFVII is the best game ever, don’t @ me.
I’m sort of with Nath on this one, while Sekiro (my from software game of choice) doesn’t cheer me up necessarily, during tough moments of my life there’s something so wonderfully calming about playing something that draws my complete focus and attention. It’s like real life and it’s hardships melt away as pour all your concentration into something. I think it might be similar to how you once described Dear Esther Rob, I don’t really feel better but having a short period where I don’t focus on my problems just really seems to help me. Love all your hard work guys. Also I don’t know why but I always pronounce it Tree-no, god isn’t FF9 great!
Yeah, the tanker section in MGS2 is something I would play through when I was stressing over exams. Either that or running around in KH1 and KH2, especially Traverse Town or Twilight Town : )
queenofichigo I’m replaying them for the (roughly) 7th time. First time playing Renegade Shepard and having fun but feeling bad about myself :D 1st time playing as a Vanguard though and I love doing a biotic charge
Oh Chris :) mass effect 2 is always a good choice :) biotic charge is much more powerful in me3 but then again 3 has many downsides :p I fished 2 I don't know how many times, 20 at least. Keep going back. My guilty pleasure and go to game on PC. Even beats the Witcher ;)
The trilogy helped me through a depression. I think at that time I must have played them 4 or 5 times in a row with no other games coming in between. Like, literally - credits of the third game roll, time to start the first one again. I have no idea how often I played it in total by now though.
always love when Persona makes the Friday feature and this list in particular makes me happy!! Persona 3/3p/4/4g/5/5r have been my go to unwinding game for over a decade now and even introduced me to the first RPG series to rival Pokemon and FF in the form of SMT and a good long JRPG is comfort gaming in all its forms for me
So I used to watch these every week... then youtube stopped suggesting them and they passed to legend. Now a year later. I remembered that these are a thing. So time to binge watch 40 of them to catch up.
This is some excellent writing! You’re so talented Ron. That fact you can make something you and I don’t enjoy eg hard games sound so calm and relaxing is something I can’t praise enough
Sly Cooper & the Thievius Raccoonus, Jak & Daxter, and the Mass Effect series. The first two are pure blasts of nostalgia from my childhood. The third? My favorite fictional universe of all time. Whenever life gets to be too much, Mass Effect helps me escape for a while.
For me Steep is a great relaxing game. I just go for it to snowboard down a mountain with a sunset. The faster I go, the louder the music plays and absorbs everything. And luckily, the soundtrack is amazing. It's a really relaxing and comforting game.

As much as I love this channel, it’s sometimes as though the staff only believes there have been roughly fifteen games ever made
they play lots of games, these games just have had the biggest impact
I find that kind of hard to believe, they've mentioned hundreds of different games over the years, many of which I've never even heard of.
I agree with FFIX and i also want to throw FFXV in too once you have finished the story FFXV is a great world to doss about in, drive around listening to classic FF songs, do some fishing, go camping
It's great to relax with
Bloodborne is definitely my chill out game. I love walking through the world, taking in the sights.
Cities: skylines is a wonderful peace inducing game that deserves way more praise than it already gets
Absolutely agree
I put on the Oldies Radio station and just build
Absolutely fabulous
I love the soundtracks to Spirti of the North and Flower.
@@vanonymousgames7050 you can always try to search it up on youtube to see if anyone had uploaded the soundtrack.
I can't stop listening to the Doom Eternal and ff7 soundtrack.
I'm so so glad you put red dead 2 in this list I couldn't agree more with exploring the wilderness, drinking coffee and hunting new things to eat on ya happy trails.
I can watch and hear Robert talk all day about games and be in a cheery mood all day.
It's Kingdom Hearts for me. I've beat KH2:FM twice in the last week, once on critical and once on easy as I go for the platinum.
Either walking around somewhere beautiful l like, such as Everyone's Gone To The Rapture, or sailing the seas in Assassin's Creed Odyssey, engaging in sea battles and boarding the occasional ship to kill a random mercenary.
I too watch LoTR every christmas and it's my soul cleanser since the first time.
Rob's overview of how one plays the Tanker section of MGS is so on point I got goosebumps.
Zelda OoT is my comfort game, I know the whole game by heart. 😌
I listen to the FF9 soundtrack whilst I work. Just everything about that game relaxes me.
Beat Saber. Can play it for hours no matter how tired or sweaty I get.
I just downloaded the ffix theme for PS4, and it makes the main screen have the most relaxing music, with the menu sounds being the ones in game
Roaming in RDR2
Just getting on my horse, hunting for crafting materials and killing it at the Poker Tables in St. Denis
Absolute perfection
True, I'm currently playing GT Sport and Persona 5
The "yellow" section of Gris. Pulling off perfect chains of platforming moves you've learned so far in a gorgeous and - for once - completely stress-free environment, and then singing the whole place to life.
Playing DMC1, 3 or 5 on normal difficulty with everything unlocked and maxed out. SO, SO GOOD and relaxing
Coming back to these videos during covid really takes me back. Even if it was only like 3 1/2 years ago
Mass Effect 2. Even on Insanity.
I've played the mass effect trilogy at least 10 times. Just something about those games.
queenofichigo I’m replaying them for the (roughly) 7th time.
Grey Warden Invasion I’ve just wrung everything out of ME2 and am currently waiting on 3 finishing its install. A great series indeed!
always love when Persona makes the Friday feature and this list in particular makes me happy!!
Comfort includes these videos! It's so nice to hear Rob's witty jokes and that familiar Access background music!
Ahhh my childhood; replaying the Tanker over and over again.
Playing blitzball on final fantasy x is the most calming thing I have ever done on a game
My comfort game would probably be Final Fantasy 9.
