Eloy also plays the songs closer to the records. I feel like Jay played faster to bring more technicality and elements to the live performances but that makes it harder for everyone else and its not honest to the albums, so I can now understand why they replaced him. Eloy not taking a cue from Corey most likely comes down to keeping the music on par with the click track. It was said by Jay that he didn't use click tracks when he was in Slipknot, which would explain why Jay was always rushing, and it would explain why Vman and Corey were both confused and signalling to Eloy. He's hearing the tempo as its supposed to be and the others aren't. Maybe in the future he won't need click tracks but if its a creative decision to better improve the band's live performances, then they should let him use click tracks for as long as they need it. Dont get me wrong, I love Jay but Slipknot needs to be the band that they were when they wrote each song, not something that falls apart because it doesn't work for everyone in the band.

Just listen to how much cleaner Eloy's playing is. Every single one of his drum covers of Slipknot's work has been way better than whatever Jay has been able to do live with Slipknot since he's joined. I'm saying live because in the studio especially with WANYK he had some amazing parts that are very fun and challenging to play but he was never able to replicate that live. Eloy is a clean, precise drummer. Jay isn't and never was. Even Joey wasn't as good live as he was in the studio. Eloy just delivers on a different level. I think Slipknot fans should be happy that Eloy is the one that got to replace Jay. It may make the inevitable ending of Slipknot in the next five years a bit less painful.

While I think that Joey's rushing was deliberate, Jay's wasn't because it wasn't very consistent in most parts. The only one time I've seen Slipknot live was in 2022 and it was with Jay. He played great for his style and you could see that the band around him could follow probably because of the amount of rehearsals they've had with him. He definitely successfuly managed to fill in with a style that was remeniscent of Joey's. But Eloy is more modern drummer and he is just on another level. His playing is insanely precise, well coordinated and supported by his insane stamina. Corey told us that Slipknot will likely go separate ways in the coming years, so having Eloy be a part of Slipknot in that time is going to be awesome!
