    I have one of those & I seem to remember that, It does not open up so, if you were able to push that onto your exhaust pipe, what is keeping it from collapsing up against the other flange if you have not expanded the pipe after installing that piece to use as a flange? The torque of those screws or bolts being tightened would pull it towards the factory flange so, what is allowing it to keep tension on the pipe & serve as its flange? If the fipe has not been expanded after installing that flange?

    • @GreggAdventure
      @GreggAdventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both ends of the pipe are exactly the same, as they were originally. one side is already expanded and fits over the other. the only difference is, the welded plate with the hole is broken. This does indeed Open, and folds over the pipe, before the expansion, and bolts on

    is this the 4.6 or the 4.0L? I can't seem to find a split flange big enough. The holes are too far apart on the original flange. Also, I don't see the replacement donut that's supposed to be there or the spring bolts.

    • @GreggAdventure
      @GreggAdventure  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure which this was. Trying to remember. Sorry. I did not use spring. I used Regular bolts. It held up with no problems for the life of the truck.

    My 1st thought was, where is the Gasket. So Is the gasket optional because my manifold downpipe is flat at welded connection end point. Don't know if gasket can be used to seal from harmful gases escaping?....ect 2000 FORD EXPLORER!! (NYS INSPECTION)

    • @GreggAdventure
      @GreggAdventure  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No gasket. The original setup has spring bolts, that allow for movement. I have not seen any repair kits that utilize a gasket.

    • @danielgarner6708
      @danielgarner6708 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you must have a gaskets in exhaust flanges yes or they will not be leak free. They don't come in kits but they are needed. If you see your OEM exhaust replacement schematics then you'll see flanges listed.

    I will never get the rusty bolts out on the Dakota. I'm about to use a second split flange on the header to have a place for the first split flange to bolt to. I know it wont be the best thing to look at but it should work and I got to pass inspection in 2 days.

      It looks like a monkey installed it but it's on. Now if I could keep the check engine light from coming back on I'd be in business. Spent $50 on 93 Octane, reset the light 4 times and put over 200 miles on her today. My last trip i got a solid 73 miles on with no check engine light. Now I just got to hope it stays off when I drive it the mile to the garage in the morning for an inspection.

    • @GreggAdventure
      @GreggAdventure  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lol. My entire truck looks like a money did it. Your truck’s computer will run checks regularly, after a certain amount of fails, the light will come back on. Get a cheap computer reader from Walmart and find out what the code is, so you can fix it and be done with that light. Likely something simple

    Just had a donut gasket on my 99 Tahoe replaced and days later my truck sounds like crap again..turns out the connection where the flanges meet those 3 bolts shook themselves loose again..so I'm really questioning the quality of work performed by the guy who did the job..idk?? But I brought the universal replacement flange like you had in this video along with gasket and replacement bolts..

    • @GreggAdventure
      @GreggAdventure  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      UGH, what a pain. Consider putting a second nut on each bolt, to keep that from happening to your new one. I had that issue also.

    I have a S60 Volvo and I have same setup but the flanges are good but the bolts look like they are welded on the head of the bolt side to flange the thread side goes out but not enough to enter the holes on opposite flange but not beyond I need to put new bolts in but not sure how to remove these nipples on the flange or re drill new holes with them their. Any help greatly appreciate it.

    • @GreggAdventure
      @GreggAdventure  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I’m understanding this correctly, I would drill the old bolts out. Depending on the material and size, it could be a real pain in the ass, and break a few bits.... But, that would be my 1st attempt. Just be Patient as it may take some time

      Just this piece and your set. The pipe itself is flared.

    • @jaydee427
      @jaydee427 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@GreggAdventure You're gonna need the gasket. Just because one pipe is flared and the other can fit inside, eventually it's gonna expand and you'll start hearing the exhaust noise again. I tried it and had to put a gasket in between the pipes 4 months later.
