    Excellent idea! Going a step further, the triangular hinge array concept can be extended to make a lifting frame. I did this to pull out 20' of 1/2" monitoring pipe installed vertically in the ground and stuck due to compacted soil. Needed are three 2" x 4" x 8' studs, three heavy duty strap hinges (4"), three screw eyes, about 6' of lightweight chain, a nut and bolt to fit into the chain, the wing screw and nut, and a ratchet tie-down strap. As in your stove, I assembled the hinge array, then screwed the other side of the strap hinges to the studs, 4" side facing toward the center of the array. I hung the "S" hook of the tie-down at the center of the array and raised the whole assembly. After positioning the studs, I screwed in the eyes about mid-level and ran the chain through them, securing the ends with the nut and bolt. This was for safety. I wrapped the extendable side of the tie-down around the pipe and started tightening it. Friction held the strap around the pipe without sliding. As the pipe came up, I repositioned the tie-down strap as needed. This wasn't the easiest thing I've ever done, but it worked! It was at a remote location and otherwise it would have been impossible to pull the lines. When I was done, all I had to do was remove the wing screw and collapse the assembly for the next time.

    That is a good idea, but you only showed us shiny new hinges and bolt. Please post a picture of what the hinges and bolt look like after being above several fires. Do you have some kind of a carry bag to keep the soot from getting onto your other items or do you wash/scrub the hinges before packing them.Thanks.

    • @PhilCrockett
      @PhilCrockett  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I figured this was more presentable with new hinges. No one wants to see black smudge on my fingers while trying to show how to make something. As far as cleaning goes...... that's up to the person using these. I just let mine cool and shove them in an old sock. I like to keep it simple.

    • @georgeboyer8158
      @georgeboyer8158 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I made a simple bag from an old pair of Wranglers. Cut the leg off about 4 inches longer than the hinges, then sew one end shut. Fold over the extra fabric to keep dirt, soot, etc inside, an elastic hair tie will hold the fabric closed. Sew the other leg in the same manner to fabricate a sleeve to help pots, pans, and cups stay together and clean.

    Would the bolt in the center cause your skillet too rock?

    • @PhilCrockett
      @PhilCrockett  8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      +sparky0288 It does rock a little. I thought about using a carriage-bolt, or a toilet flange bolt, I figured that I couldn't hand-tighten it as well if I used them. However, the slight rocking didn't really cause any problems, and the stove did it's job. I like the way you think..... I went through the same questions, and then realized that I was over-thinking it, and just went with keeping it simple, with common hardware that most folks had. Thanks for the comment! Please share this video with your friends that would like it. This stove works so well, I'm a little surprised that I don't have more views on it. I think people would like it, but it just hasn't been shared enough. Thanks again for the positive feedback my friend!
