This episode highlights how these are teenagers and how awkward being a teenager is. Especially when one of them spent their life on a compound and the other grew up an orphan on the streets. It's something a lot of people didn't realize and still don't.
As a Lesbian here, i have to agree. Cinnamon roll indeed, and he never deserved this. Course no hard feelings against Korra for this, but.. from personal experience.. making your Crush jealous never works, immature and stupid.
A lot of people diss the love triangle, and whilst I have my issues with it, I think it’s an interesting dynamic to explore. Given that these are a group of attractive older teens, it’s pretty natural for such a thing to occur. Any honest look at high school will back that up.
@ I mean I don’t know, I feel like its resolution was good and handled maturely, and resulted in some fun banter going into season 3. The main issue I have with it is how long it drags on for.
The love triangle stuff isn't that offensive in season 1, it's the romance arc in book 2 that I hate with a passion and makes the first few episodes just annoying to watch. The stuff in Book 1 is totally fine though.
Same reaction from me right at the beginning. 😅 Me like: "Korra.. honey no, please no he is not right for you..." But teenagers feelings dancing Mambo, it is stupid and i don't blame her for this. For what i blame her here is Bolin. He never deserved this, he is such a sweet guy, and even me as a lesbian, would love to go out with him and having fun, but to use him to make your crush jealous is wrong and really mean. But yeah the Love Triangle begins..
"Korra is an amazing woman" 💯👏 + "Love is scary" FACTS from a amazing woman today. So true. Us women also dumb when we are in love. But she is not sure about her own feelings, Asami as well. We will see how this turns out. 😉
The actress who plays Asami also played Yue in the live action movie. The movie was horrible but she was definitely the best part of it. I'm glad she was givem another chance to he a part of this world
I love the Probending stuff, personally. Adds a fun element to the series that I wish wasn't just dropped outright in the later seasons (I would love to have seen it evolve to the point of being 4 on 4, with Air involved somehow). And agreed, it makes way more sense to me than Quidditch. Quidditch is fun in concept, but Rowling made things quite silly at times, especially in the early books (the money system is another good example of that; 17 sickles in a galleon, 29 knuts in a sickle), and Quidditch makes less and less sense as more layers of silliness are added on. The movies were smart to streamline it a bit, making it seem more epic, but at the cost of it just completely disappearing after the start of the 4th movie, more or less.
@@jbearclowater Yeah. Couple that with Mako and Bolin being orphans and Korra being sheltered for most of her life and that's just a recipe for disaster.
@jamesalexander5559 It makes me somewhat more curious of what all they experienced growing up. We know they lost their parents, grew up on the street, and did some work for the triads. Because Mako is nowhere near the best emotionally and is super protective of Bolin, and Bolin is a naive golden retriever.
This show has a few shortcomings, and the romance is widely regarded by viewers as the biggest one. In isolation the love triangle melodrama is fun, but when there's an average of 12-13 episodes per season you're kind of wasting precious time. While TLoK has 1 extra season, ATLA cumulatively still had more episodes, so while the romance is the weakest part of BOTH shows it's more apparent in LoK because it's so condensed (Nickelodeon nonsense interfering with the writing/production didn't help either). All that being said i do still enjoy it for what it is weirdly enough, i have my issues with the execution but it doesn't stop me from having fun with it
Ah yes here we are the part that everyone in the fandom loves the fucking romance. Now a episode like this isn't necesaryily a bad idea but when you only have 12 episodes in your season then maybe don't waste time. Here is also the biggest reason that Mako is unfairly demonised in the fandom sure he does drop the ball trough out the show but the fandom puts 100% of the blame on him when he isn't the only one in the relationships. Hell the guy was orphaned on the streets since he was 8 and had to take care of Bolin as well witch is honestly the biggest feat in this whole verse. He did want to protect Bolin but well he aint exactly the most emotionally open guy. Asami is there witch is something at least not really doing anything special witch surely won't be a common occurence for her going forward. Korra kinda snubbed it but since she has been socially isolated she gets a pass. Still kinds sus to activley go after Mako when he already is in a relationship but oh well insert ha ha women joke here etc. Bolin is a special case as I will clown on him especially but here even the story is clearly making fun of him for being completley cucked. Now garnted Korra never really had that kind of love for him but still he overfed Pabu because of his grief. So yeah its hard to really respect Bolin when even the show bearly does that. Thano the creepy generic evil bully dude is voiced by Rami Malek so thats a surprisingly big name here. Also wanna see how a real pro bends. Lowkey kinda rizz if he didn't look like a edgelord. Wonder what Amon is upp to during this.
Lmao so many people hated the love stuff with this show I wasn’t really bothered by it it was kinda realistic imo depending on the kind of people your around
Besides it clearly being forced, I only hate this Romance cause The Best Boy: *BOLIN* was the only one who got hurt here. 😢 Bolin deserves nothing but Happiness in his life, his brother can go suck an egg for all I care, especially since his character is flatter than Two Week Old Open Air Soda Anyways 🤷🏿
12:30 I'm gonna have to disagree with this take. 1stly no one should ever be condemned or feel bad for expressing their feelings through words to anyone. 2nd had korra not kissed him they could have instead had a more meaningful conversation about their situation, desires and other things, and that may have given both mako and korra better clarity on everything
There's also the issue where Asami is basically funding the team. If Mako were to go and break up with her, that could mean the end of the Fire Ferrets. Honestly, I think it's an issue with how the line is written, because it would have been totally understandable if Mako had said something like "Korra is great, but I'm with Asami", and would still have the same response of "I meant for me" from Bolin.
This is the one thing i never liked about The Legend of Korra. All the sappy relationships and arguing non sense you get from teenagers is a bit tough to bare. Loved the animation though. I wish they had made it a continuation of the original.
Yeah generally teenage characters in general bother us in a lot of shows haha. Probably because going through that awkward phase once was more than enough.🤗 not our favorite part of the show but it doesn’t ruin it for us
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 It doesn't ruin it for me neither, it can just get a bit cringey at certain parts, difficult to bare haha Glad you guys are enjoying it! I haven't seen season 3-4 so ill be with you guys on those two.
Not kidding, I absolutely HATE the YA novel love rectangle they thought was needed for this story. And the relationship issues persist for far longer than they should imo. Most of the reason I don't like rewatching Korra despite actually like the plots of each season is the near forced romance/comedy
The romance is definitely the weakest part of this show, in my opinion. Part of the problem is they stuffed a series worth of romance stuff into one season. I get that the creative team didn't know if they would get more seasons after the first (this show wasn't written to have multiple season arcs ready to go the way ATLA was,and was originally only ordered for the one season), and they had an idea of where they wanted to go with it, so they had to force it all into these episodes. If the Korra-Mako thing wasn't rushed, if the Bolin-Korra thing could have gotten more than like 8 minutes, etc it could have worked alright over a few seasons. This is also where the issue comes in with season 2's romance stuff, it didn't have anywhere to go with it all after season 1 and just kind of meanders around. They mostly have that figured out by the later seasons, but it definitely takes some time to get there.
@ It doesn’t have degrassi drama and portraying teenagers acting like teenagers is normal and absolutely needed for these characters to be realistic. It doesn’t ruin anything and isn’t what the show is all about. The fandom drastically overreacts to the romance in the show.
@@Auron1Roxas2 People have different tolerance levels for secondhand embarrassment, and unfortunately, the way they handle romance in this series is like they rely on it as a crutch way too often compared to genuinely good romantic moments. I also pointed out the forced comedy segments (admittedly most of that falls on Bolin especially in Season 2, but I can gripe about that when we get there in the reactions) which also tends to rely on the same things that make my brain abort its enjoyment of the story
Season one: terrorism Season two: civil war and cultural divide Season three: anarcy, regicide, and cultural revival Season 4: empirical ideals, end of the monarchy, and korra's depression
Thing is, I dislike this as well for Bolin but I also can't say I hate it because it does so much leg work into making Bolin likeable and imo differentiating him from just being "Diet Sokka" this series. It sucks it came at the cost of Korra and Mako being actual cheaters. Mako especially being a big-time brother betrayer. Korra I can at least write off for being socially inept, hormonal, meeting the first person of the opposite sex she's attracted to as far as we know due to her being sheltered, and getting bad advice from Pema. And her and Bolin on their friend date was honestly really sweet and well-handled imo. Mako has no excuse whatsoever. lol
Yeah looked good on paper but in the show.. Oh my NO. But it is what it is, and we have to work with it. And i am happy in the end, if you know what i mean. But yeah Bolin is a good guy and i always felt very sorry for him, but also this might explain his behavior in second half of season 2.
I'll watch the show with you guys for the reactions but damn i always thought this was a huge downgrade from the last Airbender. Could not get into it at all.
I like this series enough, but it's really inconsistent, I find. I like the first season quite a bit, not as much as ATLA, but still really solid, and the third is very good, in my opinion. The second is pretty weak, the pacing is a bit all over the place, and I never got into the fourth as much as other people did. I see a lot of people online really like the fourth season, and there's stuff I really like in there, but overall it didn't work as well for me. This series in general is a mixed bag. When it's good, it ranges from good to great, and when it's bad, hoo boy it's messy.
