I like the bit where Howard and Costello are pretending to be mates and Costello asks Howard about the Cricket. Howard actually knew what was happening in the match and starts saying "we probably just need two..." and Costello thinking he could leap on a easy lay up chimes in with "wickets" and Howard continues with "two hundred and eighty...". Haha
In hindsight no matter what side of politics he was on he did the right thing to lead until the end because at the end of the day the Australian voters decides who is the prime minister of course the liberal party room can decide too but they did the right thing not to change leaders like they did in recent times John Howard will be the only pm that serve for a long time
It was totally the wrong decision. He should have handed over to Costello to lead into the election which would have removed a lot of the staleness that was set in. There was little Johnny still buddying up with George W, who was by then well on the nose too, while Rudd was speaking Chinese and impressing the leader of China - people saw old and new right there. Stepping aside for Costello would have reset the government and given them a fighting chance. But you can't really expect Johnny to change, he didn't get to where he did by letting other people have a go. He was relentless to the end. And thank god because it gave me such joy to see him lose his seat too haha.
We saw the same thing last year with Morrison. If he had stood aside Josh would of been liberal leader and could of defended the real seats more then Morrison ever could But like Howard Morrison wouldn’t stand aside and like Peter Josh wouldn’t challenge
I remember hearing the cheers go up all around the neighbourhood (at Mt Gravatt East in Brisbane), when the numbers started coming in on the 2007 epection night. There was a palpable sense of relief amongst the community. They were a mean wasteful government.

Little 14 minute media watch treat at the end was a nice blast from the past

Sounds like the fraudulent Tories in Westminster right now.
Great stuff. Was such a heady time. Shame how it all turned out.
It certainly was. Thanks for your comments.
This was exactly the same circumstance as hawk and Keating
When Keating felt the deal was not being honoured, he took the leadership.
Thus his quip of Costello, "all tip no inceberg".
Australia had just 4 PMs from December 1975 to December 2007, 4 in 32 years. After that it was 6 in 16 years and that doesn't include Rudd again
Great uploads thank you.
Thanks for your comment
Howard: a skid-mark on the bedsheet of Australian history! Costello: all tip and no iceberg!
and Rudd and Gillard ? lol idiot
Costello the most overated treasurer of all time and gutless to the end

At no point do the Australian voters directly decide who is the prime minister, just who represents their electorate
