    For me i don't think my reflexs have gotten better per say i think its that i am more patient.
    I remember when i was a little kid I would just rush in and never take my time. Games like Castlevania and others were impossible for me. Now they are easy as I take my time and plan my attacks.
    Same with Punch out I wait for the right moment to strike.

    • @FireMrshlBill
      @FireMrshlBill 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ya, I know my reflexes haven't gotten better (may even be worse just in the last year or so). Not sure if it is an age thing or just less sleep between work and a baby. Or maybe some form of carpal tunnel as I get pain and tingling too (getting old sucks). But agreed on patience. I have less patience for long games in general but more patience in actual game play.

    • @NicktheLP
      @NicktheLP 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Vicarious Fan Yeah, reflexes don't get better with age; it's physiologically impossible as nerve impulses get slower with time (because myelin sheath degenerates) in all humans with the exception of those who dramatically increase the amount of exercise they get, but it'll eventually get worse again.

    Just like i suspected the Gradius 2 blue cart is a Turbo Game Bootleg. Turbo Game was a brazilian console made by CCE. The console had a famicom and NES slot. They released games in both formats. Gradius 2 is probably heavy because some times pirates carts pcbs are larger and have more ICs than original carts (for instance pirate version of Punch Out for the famicom has a huge PCB that takes all the space inside the cart) The Crimebuster cart is also Brazilian and is a game that was released in a weird cart shape in famicom version. Is a game made by the Bit corp of Taiwan, that had a subsidiary here in Argentina (called Bit Argentina) that lasted a little longer that the Bit corp of taiwan.

    1:20 ninja gaiden 3 actually is the only one where you dont have unlimited continues you only get 5, thats what makes 3 so hard. it actually has the easiest gameplay out of the 3 so for the american release they upped the damage enemies deal to make it a little bit harder.
    most people get to the final stage then run out of continues. if you dont get tons of extra lives from the earlier levels its really hard to finish the final stages because when you die you only get 3 lives and its a long way to the boss. so i call b.s. mike, maybe you were thinking of another ninja gaiden.

    Hey Pat and Mike, the cartridge @ 12:00 is from a brazilian NES clone system called PHANTOM SYSTEM (from 1988).
    The system could play all NES, unofficial carts and those black, rounded carts and it was one of the best selling systems of all times nationally.
    The controller was IDENTICAL of the Genesis, but the buttons set were different.
    The hardware were awesome and 100% compatible with original NES, even the lightgun was awesome.
    Check this out:
    i382.photobucket.com/albums/oo268/Sr-Ferraz/NES%20Systems/GradientePhantomSystem2.jpg
    I am from Brazil and only saw ONE original NES when I was young...
    Cheers mates, and keep on gaming!! \m/

      +Daniel Lehwing That's super interesting. It's the body of an Atari "jr." console with Genesis controllers that plays NES games. Thanks for sharing that.

    • @mechanoid2k
      @mechanoid2k 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's so bizarre. Pretty slick looking. Also I believe the master system had a stranglehold on the Brazilian market at the time anyways so even if this system didn't exist, you still probably wouldn't have seen many NES's

    • @daniellehwing4667
      @daniellehwing4667 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mechanoid2k Well, although the master was a good success in here, it was remarked as a "cheap console" for numerous reasons. And just the real console were rare here, the real NES cartridges were abundant, really. Infact, it was more usual to see a regular NES cart then one from Phantom (which were always the same five or six games). I am pretty sure that Phantom did not have a lot of "black cartridges" back in the day...
      Cheers, mate!!

    Double Dragon 3 is actually my favorite. People get scared by the difficulty but once mastered it has the most tactical and satisfying combat with the larger variety of moves and weapon pickups. Kind of like how SoR3 had much more variety than the first two.

    I like that Mike pointed out the difficulty difference between Ducktales and Darkwing Duck. I've always had the opposite problem; maybe there's something about the unorthodox way to attack in Ducktales, I've always found Darkwing to be easier.

    The hardest games I have beaten are Silver Surfer (used a turbo controller) and Battletoads USA version which is significantly harder than the Japanese version. I also beat Battletoads with 2 players. My little brother and I made it all the way to Clinger Winger on the USA version, then beat the Japanese version together. That game on Clinger Winger with 2 players is insane!

    Speaking of becoming numb to things due to collecting, has anybody found that you lose a lot of nostalgic value for games that you used to feel nostalgic for? I feel like I have lost the nostalgic magic with many many games, sadly, because I have immediate access to them and actually play them quite often. I think that, besides spending money, is the worst thing about collecting Nintendo games.

    Mike is correct about Darkwing Duck, however I disagree with him a little about Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers. I wouldn't say that the game as a whole is super hard, but the optional stages are pretty tough. The same can be said for the final stage of the game as well as the final battle with Fat Cat. Honestly, outside of Duck Tales, pretty much all of the NES Disney titles are a lot harder than you would guess if you'd never played them.

    • @mncdssctn9110
      @mncdssctn9110 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I never had any major problems with Rescue Rangers. It was certainly not a piece of cake, but not that difficult either.

    • @beauleidig8670

      MncDssctn Yeah, it's not impossible or anything. I just wouldn't claim it to be as easy as Duck Tales.

    • @mindscan420
      @mindscan420 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is darkwing duck hard? I find it very easy..
      But it is my favorite NES game and I've beaten it like 200 times since I was 6 or 7 so it's probably just ingrained in my head... There is one part on the megavolt level (near the end) where I die once or twice on though.

    • @mindscan420

  • @etansivad
    @etansivad 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    To be fair, the seal of quality guarantees that it'll run on your NES, not that it's good. In the Atari VCS era, it was pretty common that games would be incompatible with certain hardware revisions or would be defective out of the box. The NES seal was to guarantee that the cartridge would work in your system or Nintendo would replace it. Since Nintendo made their own ROM chips, it was much easier for them to control the production quality of the units.

  • @thebeggs4

    In regards to being able to beat games as an adult that you couldn't as a kid, I think it also comes down to having more patience and better problem solving skills. As a kid, there's a tendency to not think things through, favour offensive tactics over defensive/elusive strategies, and get frustrated when the game gets the best of you.

    The hardest NES games I've beat . . . well, I don't consider these to be all that difficult, but I've seen others claim that they are, so I'll say Castlevania III with all four endings, the original Castlevania, the Double Dragon trilogy, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Life Force . . . and that's about all I can remember.

      +Platform Junkie The NES seal was originally intended to ensure buyers that the game wasn't absolute rubbish. This made sense as the NES was the major breakthrough following the video game crash of 1983. Once the market returned, the NES seal meant pretty much as your post states.

    • @TFOFootball
      @TFOFootball 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +thejackal007 Yes you are correct. It only allowed you to continue 5 times, that is why it is considered so hard. Mike was incorrect he must be thinking I or II

      Ninja Gaiden 3 in Japan has unlimited password continues and normal damage. The US version has no passwords, only 5 continues and the player takes two extra points of damage. No wonder Pat couldn't finish a game that's just a giant middle finger from Japan to America.

  • @denierlexiese
    @denierlexiese 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Actually Ninja Gaiden 3 has limited continues on the NES, unless I think you are playing the Ninja Gaiden trilogy on the SNES I think..can someone confirm?. Ninja Gaiden 3 is tough on the NES. Mike you're still awesome, you're probably thinking of Ninja Gaiden 2.

      +denierlexiese Ninja Gaiden 3 on NES , the US version has LIMITED continues. Youre right. 1 and 2 have unlimited. I beat the japanese rom which has unlimited continues. The Ninja Gaiden Trilogy version of NG 3 also has unlimited continues from what I remember.

    It's funny that he values label over revisions, as the revisions are actually (slightly) different versions of the game itself. Hard as shit to collect though. :P
    And I am totally with him on the "making their own carts" stuff--I am very happy with my universal shell SD2SNES and my copy of Targa for SNES.

    Pat I'm surprised you aren't into collecting PAL games. It's what i've turned to now some good games like Banana Prince and Devil World. You also said you don't have any of the Panesian games I have reproduction carts of those would you be interested in them?

    You think Darkwing Duck on NES is hard? Huh, that's weird. I never had trouble with it, to me it's on the same level as Duck Tales. Also, you should play the famicom version of Ninja Gaiden III, it's way easier than the NES one and much more fun.
    One more thing: Mike, I hope you plan to make some more in-depth videos about all the weird carts you have, they're really interesting!

      Had the same thought while watching the video; I figure either Mike has his Ninja Gaiden games confused (since both one and two have infinite continues) or he played a japanese version of 3. Still, great video.
