If only that white woman understood your frustration, but I can imagine it looked like you were just being a mean mom punching her daughter. That just shows that people shouldn’t comment when they don’t know the full story. Dimma is blessed and I know she will be a star!

No dear! Its because safeguarding a child is everyone's responsibility abroad. When people know your child has a special need, they are more likely to offer some support. Gosh! It must be tough on the whole family but to God be d glory because today Nneka is reflecting on her experience and greatful to God on how far and stronger her experience has shaped her. God is faithful.

You have a genius in your eldest daughter. With your constant love, your daughter will overcome ADHD. Simone Biles, the black American gymnast had ADHD. She's the best woman gymnast alive and black, having won numerous gold medals at National, World and Olympics tournaments. She's only 24 years old.
If your daughter shows interest in any event, please encourage her. God bless.

When it comes to special needs children, I learnt quite early that I the MOTHER and not the school is my childs primary teacher. The school can tell a parent anything to please parents for example if your special child is in a normal school, the teacher could be the ones colouring/ drawing in your childs book and telling you it's your childs work. This happens if your child special is slowing down the rest of the class.
So what has worked for me ? 3 things.
    (1) a. Praying daily and begging God to touch my son's mind by giving him understanding and memory of what he will learn that day, wether academically or socially( how to live with others).
    b. Praying for myself and asking God to give me wisdom to teach my special son, asking God to guide me to affordable resources, etc because special needs education can drain your finances leaving you dissapponted and very importantly praying for God to give me PATIENCE. Honestly I had the worst character for a special needs parent, I easily lost my temper and would scream not to mention I was an extremely impatient person, I wanted everything done fast and my way, infact slow people used to irritate the hell out of me. Hmmm.. the Lord has used my son to change and humbled me alot lol.
    (2) Regular individual fasting specifically for the child. Atleast 3 days in a month till 3pm, ( the days can be block or spread out in the month). And, Giving monthly to the REAL poor. I can't stress this enough. Stinginess is the lack of generosity toward the poor and toward God’s work.
    Proverbs 21:13
“If you refuse to listen to the cry of the poor, your own cry for help will not be heard.”
Please note I said give to poor, not rich pastors lol. And please when we give let's not take pictures and announce to the world, we will not receive anything from God.
    (3) Spending atleast an hour DAILY one of on one Academic Teaching eg reading, writing or Training your child. Training may learning to dress themselves, feed themselves, toileting etc.. This should be away from distraction just mother and child, teaching him or going through what he learnt from school/ therapy. By the grace of God and not school, taught my son to read and we are trace- writing. For reading I taught the the sounds of letters this helps with decoding the words and for writing you can print out free tracing lines to practice writing. Eg I trained him to feed himself he was clumsy and lacked motor skills, those days he would put an empty spoon in his mouth as if the food was invisible and he was eating air, Lol. Hmmm.. I can laugh at it now but those times I used to ask myself " what kind of unfortunate child is this" and so many other dark thoughts would run through my mind. We start with short prayer. When praying I come against restlessness ( aka hyperactivity), confusion and forgetfulness. I ask God to give my son a peaceful and focused mind that can retain memory.
God rewards our labour. We can't as special we must must become their primary teachers, it may look like nothing is happening but something is happening keep going. God does reward our effort.
So, there goes my honest to God practical method. It works! I have seen alot of progress and still trusting God for alot more. Let us keep teaching our children, keep talking and keep believing. We shall tell our story. God may choose to heal instantly or He may chose to do it progressively.
All glory be to God -
    Imelda x

My special needs son was first diagnosed with ADD, because he had zero attention span, but not hyper. He enjoyed playing/being alone making himself happy. Did not walk until 14 months, but clearly speaking and reading before 2. School was a challenge because he didn’t have the attention span and it made him a very easy target for bullying. Around 8, he was further diagnosed with ASD, he was on the spectrum. Stay encouraged, it’s all good with him now. And it will be for your daughter too.

Oh my my son is 25, he is autistic and the educational psychologist that my son was a destruction and is stopping other children from learning. We live in UK and I thought it is due to racism. Please do not give up. My son used to spend the whole day sitting on the carpet infront of the headteachers off. Someone once told me that special needs children are angels and God check your heart before blessing you with one. My son is now a graduate and is facing the challenges of finding work. My other son is autistic too he started talking at 4 years. I give all to God. I do not worry anymore, I take one day at a time. Please take heart . Just love ur child. I love ur sister 💗. Your story is raising awareness for our Nigerian community. There are many families out there going through the same experience as yours, lost and frustrated because they find no resource or help within the community or governmental agencies. I applaud you and I must add that you should strive to partake in some of the therapeutic visits with your daughter. I am a therapist and as well a mother of a special need who turns 25 years old this year. It is rough but God has been faithful. I'm pleased to know from your statements that Nigeria is progressing in this area of needs and I pray it continues. Also, there are other computerized visual resources out there of which she can use in her space to improve more on her vocabulary. You should ask your therapists, those are very effective and they boost their self-confidence. More grace to you and your family as you walk this special journey. God is your strength. 👍

As a mom who has trained my 17 year old daughter with ADHD alone from the age of 5, it's been tough! I dont know how many times the social services wanted to take her away from me. It has always been hard convincing her to seat still and fix her hair and I remember, there was this time she told her teachers that I beat her, omo come and see police lol. But police and social services failed to interrogate her coz they couldn't understand a thing! Anyway I thank God for this country coz my gal has gotten all the support otherwise I would have run mad because of her too much energy and babish way of understanding and doing things.
It's so unfortunate this gal these our gals are gonna need us all their lives otherwise the world would take advantage of their weaknesses. Keep strong babe and cyber hugs to you and chi baby❤...incase you need more information in the future, I will be right here to help you. Another thing, let her find her on passion! My daughter finds solace in dancing.... so she dances all the time and that makes her happy.

      @ritaokigbo1297 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@Becky they do love music and dancing.
My daughter as a toddler started ballet classes as health visitor said needed to straighten her posture. When they say go left in the class my daughter would go right. She used to cry about it but I said we are here for her to move to the music. Not to worry about left or right.
She later on picked up and did ballet up to grade four.

My son has also been diagnosed with that. It is not easy, both emotionally & financially, as they need lots of caring & the cost to see all the specialist doctors & therapist. But it is worth it at the end. We just need to be there for our kids & keep encouraging them.

You have a genius kid on your hands, but you just need to know in which area, and how you to bring out the best in her. Unfortunately there might not be teachers for your kids in Nigeria. Well you SHOULD TRAIN YOURSELF TO BE HER TEACHER.

Wow! This is my own story, my daughter is will be 6 in October, I'm still struggling with getting her to learn, please can I get the contact of the therapist Abigail? Maybe she can suggest some things to me, because even down to reading and identifying the normal ABC and 123, she can't yet! I just came across your channel and saw you just lost a child, so sorry mama.
