The inspiration behind this video:
The cast of Percy Jackson and the Olympians also appears perfect for bringing the story of Riordan's series to life. Beyond Scobell, Jeffries, and Simhadri, the cast will include the likes of Glynn Turman (The Wire), Jason Mantzoukas (The League), Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton), and Lance Reddick (John Wick) among others. Due to how many seasoned actors will be joining the younger newcomers, this new adaptation will likely impress on multiple fronts.
Now that a closer look at Zeus' lightning bolt has been provided, it appears the show will be faithfully adapting Riordan's book series for streaming. Though the Percy Jackson and the Olympians adaptation may face challenges, the dedicated accuracy to the source material indicates good things for the final show. Just how much of the original books make it to the small screen will be revealed when Disney+ releases its first two episodes on December 20.

These books were my treasure lol. I read every single one out loud to my nephew one summer. He would beg me to read one more chapter lol. Even as an adult these books were extremely fun. The movie was ok but Percy was only supposed to be like 12 years old in the first book. I’m excited for this 😊

I want to love this but in glimpses of high tension scenes here, the actors all seem hella chill.

Same, I'm just not feeling that much tension or hype. Additionally, there's not much emotion on the actors faces. So many shows are mistaking stoic for bored, everyone looks like they are less than interested to be there. Make no mistake, I really do hope the show proves me wrong and it does well. Ever since they teased a TV show was in the works, I had high hopes for it.

Don't get me wrong I would love a few hints about characters a little bit sooner... like Pipers father was an Actor and Rachel came from a filthy rich family, right? Maybe hint at it. Have in the background play the news in which is said _"Rumors have it that McCleans own daughter was caught stealing a car."_ and stuff like that, I think that would be great.

I think Grover looks exactly like how I imagined, Percy sounds how I imagined, but Annabeth is completely different. I don’t mind them trying to be more inclusive, I just wish they kept the main characters appearances to how they are described in the books, and other characters with less rigid or specific character designs they could’ve changed. Still, overall, as long as her actual character personality is the same, I think this could turn out pretty good.
I agree with you! I will say though that Rick riordan had full say over the castings and he picked her himself because he said that how she spoke and how she acted was exactly how he imagined her. “When I heard her, I heard annabeth!” Those were his words!!

But hot take: The actress playing Annabeth is perfect for this role. She may not have the blonde pony tail, but you can tell in her expression and her composure that she is the smart, arrogant, caring, brave and traumatized girl we know.

The book series helped me get away from all of the drama and expectation in the world and in society. I hope that the TV series does the same for me.
Ever since i found out about this series i was waiting every single day for updates... tbh, hate me all you want but it's a little disappointing that most characters aren't as described in the book.
when you sit comfortably in your room, wrapped up in ur blanket and reading each sentence, u imagine all the scenes playing in ur head.. how the character is like and the environment around... that is how all of us grew up right? the characters in the book will forever be the correct appearance. if Rick wanted to change the character's appearance he should've just written it in his book right?
if im not wrong, he has mentioned almost all races and ethnicities and religious beliefs in his writings, which is tbh very amazing and admirable.. if he did that, why did he change his characters?

Please read Rick's several blog posts about this topic. To paraphrase, the books were written at a time where white was the gender default. Rick genuinely didn't care what race the characters were. He was involved in the show from the very start; the plot is going to be the same. Rick also hand-picked the actors.

Well said. It is just annoying and completely breaks the expectation of most fans. Not because we have something against any race, that is just stupid. But we imagine and even create an emotional connection with certain characters as they are written in the source material, in this case, books. Doing this physical changes, just breaks the connection between the fans and the character. To make it worse, it also affects the way the character behaves and connects with its own world. Allowing this, it's the author's fault and the fans are paying for it.
@@CoolScratcher Worst excuse in existence. Who cares about his motives back then? The fans already read it. They already built an emotional connection with THAT character. If you change it, it is not THAT character anymore, even if says the same lines and tries to behave the same way. Making an accurate representation is already hard enough... making more changes is basically shooting your own foot. If you can change their physical appearences SO MUCH, then you can change everything else. At the end of the day, the author was not loyal to his own characters nor to his fans.

I just finished episode 5. The fact that the roles are adolescents changes the dynamics of the story. I've never read the books but it appears to be more faithful to writer's intent. I'm enjoying it and recommend it.

This series looks like it's going to be more true to the source material which im excited about! I honestly loved the films. They are what made me wanna read the books, but they're so different from each other I felt disappointed? Like the movies stand alone. They're fun, but they are more "inspired" from the books than based on them.
Media and literature are gonna be their own versions anyway, but I am excited with how the show is taking the approach at least from what's shown in the trailer. Feels more like the show is going to adapt from the source material rather than be "inspired by", so the essence will be the same even if the show is going to handle telling the story with obviously different methods and techniques than the books since they're different mediums.
It should be a lot of fun :DDD cant wait to watch!!

I have so many book series to read, but when I first read percy jackson like 2 weeks ago, I forgot about every other books I still need to read.
I am saying this right now. I am DEEPLY dissapointed that they made Annabeth Black and this is coming from a South Indian Fan. They Could've made anyone else black and I wouldn't have cared but they chose Annabeth like Cmon Man. Im not being racist or anything. Please dont misunderstand me. I just hoped they portrayed the Annabeth I fell in love while reading the book descriptions. Other than that I am very excited to see what will unfold this series because these books are my favpurite books of all time.
I do wish Annabeth actually looked like Annabeth. They didn't get it right in the movies either. Nothing against the actor at all, but when I read a book that clearly describes a character and they make a movie or show and completely change that characters looks it's annoying. I still plan to watch this, hopefully it will be good.

I have a small criticism to make: I always thought that this saga would be safe to call just "Percy Jackson". "The Olympians could have been good for the last book (or as a subtitle, whatever), instead of "The last Olympian". If the author had just called it "Percy Jackson "It would have been nicer, in my opinion.
Most of that would be fine, but if the second part of the 5th book's title was "The Olympians" instead of "The Last Olympian" it wouldn't have matched the book. It was about Hestia, who gave up her status as an Olympian to prevent a war. The whole series leading up to that point talked about the prophecy: the next child of the big 3 to reach the age of 16 (Percy) would make a choice that would either save or destort Olympus. Percy's choice was either to kill Luke or give Luke his sword. He had to give up his chance to be "the hero" and let Luke kill himself. That humility is what saved Olympus, and he learned it from Hestia.
I got so used to the old movie, that they seem so young now.

In the book, Annabeth is described as a blonde and fair-skinned character. However, the trailer did not accurately portray her appearance. Despite this, the trailer looks promising.
Zeus and Chiron are also black, considering they’re both from Ancient Greece they shouldn’t be black, Zeus can change forms but if Thalia is black that’s where I draw the line because it means Jason is black which he can’t be because he’s blonde too.
